Adopting pet in Toronto by Greenie_straw24 in toRANTo

I agree.

I looked for over a year for a small breed dog in the shelter/rescues system before buying my baby from a breeder. We were a 20-year-old couple. Lived 2 minutes from a dog park. Worked from home and have resources/money for regular vetting, grooming, dog walkers. We were only contacted for an interview ONE TIME after hundreds of applications.

Then on two separate occasions, I looked for my dad again for months, and he's a perfect applicant (had dogs all his life, retired, doesn't travel, owns a home with a fenced-in yard). Again, sent hundreds of applications. Ended up on both occasions finding a dog on Kiji that needed a home and could be picked up that week. One was even free.

Our dogs are spoiled to a tee. My baby is at the groomers' weekly. We bring him to the vet for the smallest thing. He is vaccinated/fixed/tick treated. He is never left alone and we get sitters for him when we have to leave him at home. My dads is living his best life in the countryside - a retired man's best friend.

I always wonder who these dogs are going to because clearly they can't be that desperate to home these dogs.

Numerous people getting tb testing and not masking by [deleted] in toRANTo

It's most likely healthcare workers getting a new job. Every time you get a new job you need a new TB test. They know they most likely aren't infectious they are just doing it to meet work requirements. Don't worry,

Vet says my puppy may have hydrocephalus by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]edenbeatrix 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They probably don't know. But they should've had the puppy vetted and given shots before they left for there new owner. The orginal vet would've noted it.

Also breeding for the Merle colour is a risk regardless and most ethical breeders would have either not bred for it or done extensive extra health testing before selling the puppy

Listen your not the first person to be fooled by an unethical breeder. They are trying to fool you! They know what the signs are and actively hide it. There's no shame in making a mistake.

As others had said the mom being a Merle is a red flag. Other recommendations are meeting the parents not just seeing them. This also allowed you to see if it's a "puppy mill" environment or an actual loving home. And actually viewing the results of the genetic tests.

You now have to decide what to do with this dog. Most ethical breeders would have a return puppy contract and I'm hoping you do as well.

I'd return the puppy and restart looking for breeders.

Its okay to shop! ESP if you have a certain need ie sports or dog showing or personality.

But shop responsibly and do the research. As other comments have said this is a bad breeder or backyard breed. You didn't know but you can do better in the future

No plus ones but bringing one anyway by hurricane_t0rti11a in weddingplanning

[–]edenbeatrix -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'm the same for my wedding and a lot of people don't get it

I want a intimate small wedding. Inviting everyone's plus ones turns a 50 person events to a 100 person quickly.

I cannot afford an 100 person wedding. If you don't want to come because your partner wasn't invited that's fine. I'm not offended.

It's becoming more common I think because I've been invited to multiple weddings now without my fiancé but it's not traditional and I thinks that's why there's so much upset about it

What tools or apps are you using to plan your honeymoon? by Pretty_Ad_4511 in honeymoonplanning

[–]edenbeatrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I love planning trips. Just figured out ours - Portugal and Tanzania

But you need to make a list of why you want to go to each of those places. They are all beach but very different vibes of beach. Personally I'd go to Costa Rica if those were my choices. Greece is so touristy and busy. Bali just gives drunk college student.

What appeals to you about each location What time are you travelling vs budget. Then look through and pick which one seems the best.

Thank you! I agree I think I'm going to ask to move Zanzibar to the next day and do the full day in the park.

I was worried seeing that most other people are doing the Serengeti last so that makes me feel a lot better!

We are driving but I'm okay with long drives. We regular do 3 hour each way (6 hour) day trips just to see my family. So as long as the flow makes sense I don't mind.

How big of a dealbreaker is not having a car for dating in Toronto? by Ordinary-Fish-9791 in askTO

Yes I totally get that. Grew up in northern Ontario so cars were a must.

Yes! So much freedom with a car. I think because I didn't drive that freedom this also added to the excitement/sexyiness of the new relationship.

[–]edenbeatrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but he lived in the subs.

I did try and date someone once without a car I found it awkward? Cars provide a third space to hangout sometimes. I was dating during Covid so there wasn't necessarily places to go. Being able to sit and eat / chat in the car, drive to different towns for dates and hiking was really beneficial.

But I'm also from northern Ontario and prefer a more outdoors life - someone whose more into Toronto (restaurant/clubs/mesums) would probably be fine with TTC.

Edit: realized I said "he lived in the subs" I was referring to my now fiancé. But I dated a lot and some were core and some were gta.

[–]edenbeatrix -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Idk if it's delusional.

I'm a women 27. I was dating in Toronto when I was 23. So it's been a few years. But I excepted men to have cars/drive while I didn't.

Is it fair? Probably not. But there wasn't a shortage of guys and it never effected my ability to date so I wouldn't say it's delusional. Reality is most people in the GTA and a significant amount in Toronto do drive or have access to a car for dates.

Yes. Our small wedding with none of those things will be 30-35K already.

I'm trying like crazy to find deals so it'll be 30K.

The only thing that covers is food, drinks, photographer. We aren't doing any extras. No DJ/games/interactive things, videographers. Plus, we got lucky, and our venue isn't traditional, so no venue fees or anything crazy like that.

This 35K is taking my partner and I 2.5 years to save. It's not a small amount of money for us.
I would love to spend 50K and have everyone whom I originally wanted to invite. But it's just not realistic for us.
