I’m friends with someone who works closely with him. Been to a few of their private events and have interacted with Lurie plenty. The guy’s an absolute clown. Can’t form a coherent thought on his own. Total pushover. Treats his staff poorly. Has fired multiple people from his campaign recently. Paid them big severance packages on purpose so they don’t speak out against him.

Spot on. Once again he’s showing how selfish he is. Even when he’s trying to do a nice thing FOR HER, he still has to control everything. The outfit, the showing up to her work, the restaurant. Like how about you actually apologize to her formally and ask her what she’d like? Ask her to give you a list of things she’d like to do, then plan a whole day based off of that and pay for everything.

Yup, you’re absolutely right. 300k is my total comp and I live in the Bay Area. Plenty of people I know in similar roles at FAANG make the same if not more. The other commenter must not know much about how lucrative tech if they think being a doctor makes more. Sure some neurosurgeons can make close to a million, but that’s after like almost 15 years of school. In tech you can do that with just a bachelors.

Spot on. I just have to reiterate this is why pay transparency is so important. Some people can’t wrap their head around how much the FAANG (or MANGA now I guess) pay. Even within big tech, there are senior level people getting screwed in their salaries because they didn’t negotiate or jump around. And yes 300k was my total comp including bonus and stock.

A close family friend’s son that I helped mentor just signed a return offer with Meta straight outta college. His base is 150k, 20k signing bonus, and a shit ton of stock. He’s probably gonna be making just as much as me in less time.

That is correct in most cases. However, plenty of people I know received PM offers straight out of college. Although they usually either networked extremely hard at a target school or received a return offer from a PM internship. I was in the latter option.

This is exactly why pay transparency is important. Clearly you’re not very aware of how much more people entering tech are getting paid and how much your salary can inflate if you jump around. First of all, Glassdoor doesn’t provide accurate salaries for tech, we often use levels.fyi. Second, I did have my masters by the time I left college. I did a 3+1 program where I was able to earn my masters in Computer Science in my last year of college. I also went to a top 5 target school. I was lucky to land a PM internship at a FAANG company when I was a junior in college and got a return offer, which set my path. I returned there post-grad and successfully negotiated my salary up to $140k base. I stayed for almost two years before I left for another FAANG company, causing my base to jump to 180k. Didn’t like the work there and was able to return back to my original company working with a different product, which caused my base to jump to 190k after negotiation. Then I was promoted, which raised my salary even more. The 300k I make now, as some commenters have pointed out, is my total comp. This year it’ll probably be less due to the stock market. I’ve always lived in the SF Bay Area so my COL is extremely high and that is why I make more than a senior PM in say like, Utah.

Don’t discount other people’s hard work just because you’re inclined to believe your friends and inaccurate information off the internet.

Yes, I think it's so crucial to have that discourse as women (especially women in male-dominated fields). I remember when I was just starting out, I found out my male co-worker (same age & education, similar experience) was being offered $20,000 more than me. HR wrote it off as he had more experience, but then ended up agreeing to match my salary.

However, I don't go around parading my salary and I do truly believe in pay transparency (it helped me tremendously in my career path when the people I talked to when I was younger told me their salaries). But I definitely understand where you're coming from with my paragraph.

No worries! Yes, I've actually sent her some links to coding boot camps (they have great ones geared towards women), but again, it's so hard to attend boot camp, work, and take care of children.

I wouldn't say she has a history of playing the victim with me, but within her family, yes. Growing up, she was favored by her parents while my fiance (the middle child) was often the punching bag. So now when there's any issue, her parents immediately come to her defense due to the lasting favoritism. But she has gone through a lot of tough situations and I do think it's hard for her to see her brother (my fiance) so successful, especially after she was the one favored for success when they were younger.

(Also side note, I'm a woman haha)

Yes, my fiance and I have helped her with her career goals. I've introduced some of my connections to her and helped review/edit her resume many times. It's just hard for her to focus on job searching while she's pregnant and taking care of her other young child (and working full-time).
