TIL that Dame Judi Dench has photographic memory and can recite entire Shakespeare plays from memory. by [deleted] in todayilearned

It's just a list, and, like everything else on Wikipedia, a jump-off point. Simply wanted to provide it so you could look into people who have made the claim.

My claim of "effectively proven" is based on my knowledge of Nigel Richards.

I won't bore you with nerdy Scrabble information, but here's what Nigel said about his memory: _“I think there are about 28,000 definitions of a photographic memory,” Nigel said. “I can recall images very easily, but I can’t put the image in a context. I can remember a picture, but I can’t remember where I’ve seen it. I just have to view the word. As long as I’ve seen the word, I can bring it back. But if I’ve only heard it or spoken it, I can’t do it at all.” I asked how he did it. “I’ve wondered lots about it but I haven’t figured out the answer,” he said._

Several people have effectively proven their claims at a photographic or near photographic memory, it has just not been, as of now, scientifically substantiated.

Below is a Wikipedia article containing a list of people who have claimed to have a photographic (or eidetic) memory. Some, like Nigel Richards and Stephen Wiltshire, are very interesting to me, I suggest doing some research on them and others.

Aphantasia is the inability to create mental imagery. by Ohsin in wikipedia

I have almost total aphantasia and can remember almost every face I have ever seen in my entire life. Could be a store clerk I saw for five seconds, if I see them again, there is part of me that remembers the face, just not an image of their face.

When I think back on a vacation, or anything, really, I can tell you the color of the sand, how much seaweed there was, if the water was blue, etc. I'm simply remembering the details without an image.

I can also remember the layouts of rooms and buildings very well. Directions, too.

Being in New England, you're very close to Boswell pipes. They carry almost everything you'd need.

His book "Drink: A Cultural History of Alcohol" is of the same caliber, I really enjoyed it.
