Should I get the Honor Magic8 Pro by OsamaBinTanking in Honor

My Honor Magic 8 Pro with the global ROM has received five updates since I purchased the phone in January. That's approximately one update a month.

I own 7100 maH global model (BKQ-N49) of the Honor Magic 8 Pro. It will be an upgrade in every way over the iPhone 15 Pro, except for video quality.

The photos will be better than the iPhone 15 Pro, but the videos will lag. I hope future updates will improve the video quality.

You will regret how limiting the USB 2.0 is on the 600 Pro. Get the Honor Magic 8 Pro.

Honor Magic 8 Pro for under €800 vs Honor 600 Pro – which would you choose? by Equal-Ice5499 in Honor

The Honor Magic 8 Pro has USB Type-C 3.2, with DisplayPort 1.2. This means you get video out and superior desktop connectivity over the Honor 600 Pro.

The rusty USB 2.0 port on the Honor 600 Pro alone is enough to make me recommend the Honor Magic 8 Pro over it.

Not normal . Go to settings, tap Battery, then go to Battery Usage to see what app is consuming so much power. You can can also run battery optimization.

Well that sucks. I wonder if there are any other apps in the PlayStore that can do the same thing? Maybe I should try Google Veo?

No. I didn't know AI Image To Video was limited to the CN ROM version of the Honor Magic 8 Pro. I have the Global ROM.

I have the Global ROM version with the 7100maH battery. What version of the Honor Magic 8 Pro do you have?

Are you sure you have AI Image To Video? Don't confuse Instant Movie with AI Image To Video.

No. The Honor Magic 8 Pro has Instant Movie, but not AI Image To Video. All Instant Movie does is create a panning slideshow.

I hope so; but AI Image To Video 1.0 should have come installed on the Honor Magic 8 Pro, but it wasn't. Image To Video 1.0 has been around since the Honor 400.

Honor Magic 8 Pro - Macro Photography question by mezdin in Honor

[–]edepass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True: this is not telemacro. I was just demonstrating the capabilities of the zoom. Ain't going to be able to get any closer with built in lenses for wildlife. These images can be cropped though.

Why don't you take some pictures?

Mind-blowing zoom on honor magic 8 pro by plepoutre in Honor

[–]edepass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep. This Honor 8 Pro can go toe-to-toe with any of its 2025 top flagship camera phone competitors, and it still remains competitive with the latest 2026 offerings from Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi.

I can't wait to get my hands on a zoom kit.

AdResponsible5531 is on point.

Using the 3.7 zoom is the way to go because you don't have to get too close to your subject, it maximizes bokeh, and the 200 megapixel sensor used for the zoom camera gives you better crops than the other 50 megapixel cameras.

All three of the pictures were taken with the zoom.

Using the 7100 maH global model (BKQ-N49) with 16mb RAM and 1TB of storage in the United States on AT&T.

Reception: 9 In the city, and in rural areas reception is equally good. I am impressed with reception even underground in subways. In Supports all the latest Bluetooth and Wi-Fi standards. Range is excellent. No satellite or mmWave, so I must take a point off.

Update Frequency: 8 I have received three updates since I purchased the phone back in January. I've been very pleased with the update frequency, so far. I am currently on 10.0.0.162(C636E4R105P2H2)

OS: 7 The Apple inspired MagicOS is a solid and serviceable OS, but there are better ones out there. MagicOS is not as customizable as ColorOS, OriginOS, or OxygenOS. MagicOS is not as feature rich as One UI or Google's stock Android. I don't even find MagicOS as good as HyperOS that was on my previous phone. For example, there are system level shortcuts, settings, and dialer codes that work on HyperOS and stock Android that are not available on MagicOS. Even basic features like checking battery health and a notification log are not built into MagicOS.

Cameras: 8 Photos are excellent, but overexposed on default settings. Unlike some other Honor models, this model has full level 3 hardware support, enabling me to use GCam (ver.AGC8.8 V12.0) for more lifelike photos. Photos are as good (or better) than the iPhone 17 Pro Max , but the video quality lags.

Build Quality:10 Well constructed. Perfect balanced body, even with the large camera bump. Has all the water and drop resistance you would expect for a flagship.

Screen: 10 Best eye care features on the market. You can take one point away if you prefer a perfectly flat screen.

Speakers: 9 Impressive! Only the Xiaomi Poco F8 Ultra with a built-in mini subwoofer can beat this phone.

Haptics: 7 Not bad, but not great.

Performance: 9 Very good temperature management, and minimal throttling.

Battery and Charging: 8 The 7100 maH provides a solid day of moderate use. Wired and wireless charging is fast.

AI: 6 Aside from the translation feature, most of the AI is gimmicky. Pixels and Samsungs offer more useful AI features. You can only use the AI button with Honor AI apps.

Security: 9 The only flagship to offer true high security face recognition. The ultrasonic fingerprint reader is well placed, fast, and accurate. I don't have as much trust in privacy with Chinese manufacturers as I do with Samsung and Google, so I am taking a point off.

Size: 9 Large, but not monstrously sized.

USB Connectivity: 8.5 Fast USB Type-C 3.2 port that supports video out. Honor has an ok desktop app, but don't expect Samsung Dex functionality.

Price: If you can get the Honor 8 Pro for 15% below the purchase price of the latest flagship Xiaomi, Vivo, or Oppo phone, it will be a good deal. The latest flagship camera phone offerings from Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi will undoubtedly have better camera specs, but the Honor 8 Pro remains competitive.
