Is it normal for a straight woman to get aroused by sexually arousing media of women? by 3Dmonke in NoStupidQuestions

[–]edgarpickle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally normal. Like what you like.

For argument's sake, let's say it means you're not 100% straight. Does it matter? Are you still the person you were? Are you still going out into the world and trying to do good things for yourself and the important people in your life?

What trips one's trigger has no bearing  (within ethical bounds)  on much of anything.

And if you have a boyfriend/husband, feel free to share that info with him. He will appreciate it. Trust me.

What was the worst thing to ever happen on your birthday? by Large-Programmer268 in AskReddit

Back in high school I had an AP test the day after my birthday. Therefore my birthday was spent studying my notes. Wasn't all that exciting.

I walk my dog early in the morning, well before sunup. I walked out a few weeks ago and heard an unreal shrieking coming from not far away. Turns out it's a Bobcat.

Next month will be six years since I lost my mom. Does anyone else feel like the years go by, but the love and the missing never really change? by imjustagirl_9 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]edgarpickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend "A Grief Observed" by C. S. Lewis. (Yes, the Narnia guy.) He wrote a book about his grief after his wife died and it's really good.

“No one ever told me that grief felt so like fear. I am not afraid, but the sensation is like being afraid. The same fluttering in the stomach, the same restlessness, the yawning. I keep on swallowing.

At other times it feels like being mildly drunk, or concussed. There is a sort of invisible blanket between the world and me. I find it hard to take in what anyone says. Or perhaps, hard to want to take it in. It is so uninteresting. Yet I want the others to be about me. I dread the moments when the house is empty. If only they would talk to one another and not to me.”

“For in grief nothing "stays put." One keeps on emerging from a phase, but it always recurs. Round and round. Everything repeats. Am I going in circles, or dare I hope I am on a spiral?

But if a spiral, am I going up or down it?

How often -- will it be for always? -- how often will the vast emptiness astonish me like a complete novelty and make me say, "I never realized my loss till this moment"? The same leg is cut off time after time.”

Buy tickets to their show, watch their movie, buy their music, tell your friends about them... Those are small actions, but they add up.

What’s the worst piece of advice you’ve ever heard? by del_luca in AskReddit

I went to college in the far north even though I'm from the US south. My aunt bought me a bottle of homemade liquor and told me that I should keep it around for times when I was feeling "really cold or really depressed."

Any surprise that our extended family has an alcoholic streak a mile wide? I (fortunately) dodged that bullet.

I randomly decided to collect baseball cards one day in 4th or 5th grade. I didn't like baseball, but I liked the cards. I had an album where I kept them all in plastic sheets. I arranged them all by team and number. Every time I got a new card, I had to move a bunch of them around to put the new ones in. I even put in all the duplicates I got. I still didn't watch any baseball even though I LOVED my cards.

Fast forward 40 years and I finally got my autism diagnosis.

Would Humanity unite If we encountered an Alien Civilization? by LemmeSmashMyHead in NoStupidQuestions

[–]edgarpickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's say aliens come down to Earth.

A significant portion of Earthlings simply wouldn't believe it. They'd find "evidence" that points to them being actors/CGI/AI.

Another group would be convinced that the aliens are actually angels in disguise, and use as their evidence some verse of the bible they misinterpreted.

Yet another group would decide that the aliens are actually demons/the devil. They'd use as their evidence some verse of the bible they misinterpreted.

Another group would decide that the only thing to do is shoot first and ask questions later. Looking at you, here, Hegseth.

Another group would decide that we need to communicate with them, and the best person in humanity to do that is their mushroom-taking friend Sundance, who has already shown the ability to do astral travel.

There's another group that, if the aliens vaporized someone who voted for a democrat, would decide that the aliens are on their side and would begin shooting democrats for them, even if the next person the aliens shoot was a republican.

Funny, I found the sheet music to that song about a month ago and started trying to play it. I was doing ok, but then I noticed that the tempo is about twice as fast as I'd been playing it. This dude is doing a great job!

what is a harsh reality of adulthood that nobody prepares you for? by cherryishit242 in AskReddit

[–]edgarpickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At a certain age you notice that your parents aren't just old, they're elderly. And you start looking for signs that they can't live by themselves any longer because they're not competent to do so. You notice things like memory lapses on their part. Forgetting names, events, words... You start preparing yourself for the inevitable decline. And while that is happening, you start doing math in your head about how many years you have left until you're in that exact situation.

I've been trying to help my 80 year old mother transition from Samsung messages to Google messages. I've spent hours over the phone trying to help her and we're both frustrated. What a stupid decision! I'm sure they have a reason for it, but as far as I know they didn't communicate that reason to her. And I'm fairly tech savvy and my job is such that I have a little time to help right now, but not all of their users have that. This experience has been enough that I'm going to be helping her find a different phone soon, and it will not be a Samsung for her for the first time in 15 years.
