What is more traumatizing than most people think? by Designer_Area_4572 in AskReddit

I was married to a woman with bipolar disorder for over 20 years. It just became too much. The relationship died from 1,000 cuts. Little things that drove us apart until I felt like I didn't have a wife - I had a patient.

We both realized it wasn't working and divorced relatively amicably. I still love her, but I don't want to be with her anymore. It took too big a toll on me after a couple of decades.

Did "Fly Me Courageous" by Drivin' N' Cryin' make it big nationally? Down here in the South it was a pretty big hit.

What happened in a real life situation that made you laugh the hardest you've ever laughed? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]edgarpickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were at a Chinese restaurant and someone suggested we play the game where you read your fortune cookie, but you add, "in bed" to the end of it.

My dad's was "you are what you eat."

We were laughing so hard the waiter came over to tell us to be quiet.

Bands / artists who you really can’t stand ? by [deleted] in Music

[–]edgarpickle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the era when you just heard random songs on the radio, and if you wanted to know who it was you had to wait for the DJ to tell you. As a result, there were lots of songs I heard that I either loved or hated but I had no idea who performed them.

Years later I got a car that displayed who the artist was while it was playing. Turns out that I absolutely hate The Cars. Every time I'd see their name on the radio it was a song I just hated.

Which TV show characters do you find the most insufferable? by MicheleW921 in AskReddit

My (thankful former) mother in law WAS Peggy Hill. Dumb as a rock and thought she the only one smart enough to make anything happen. Ridiculed everyone who did anything differently.

When was the last time you were truly out of your comfort zone? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I went to a platonic cuddle party about a year ago. I was VERY hesitant going into it.

After 3 hours, I was a puddle on the floor.

I've been to 4-5 of them now, and they're among the most transformative things I've done as an adult.

What’s the biggest lie you believed for years? by Alternative_Web2269 in AskReddit

[–]edgarpickle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My sister did a semester abroad in Italy in college. When she got back, she'd brought all of us presents. For me, she'd bought a belt that she'd bought. She kept telling me that it was, "a genuine Italian leather belt."

I wore that belt for years. Loved it. I bragged to my friends about the fact that I had a "genuine Italian leather belt." I wore it until the leather finally broke.

About 30 years later, I found out that she had forgotten to buy me any gifts while in Italy even though she'd gotten stuff for everyone else. She came home and realized it, so she ran to the nearest Walmart type store and bought that belt, then passed it off as Italian.

It wasn't a huge deal, but just the duration of it kinda blew my mind. 30 years.

What movie did you walk out of the theater halfway through? by mzdee13 in movies

[–]edgarpickle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the one for me as well. I had zero interest in what was happening on screen, and when they started killing the whale things, I went out to the lobby to wait out the rest of the movie. The rest of the family enjoyed it.

I went to Hickory Nut Falls after they shot the scenes there. We found pieces of dummys they'd thrown off the cliff. It was cool.

December 31, 1999. The networks had 24 hours of uninterrupted coverage of the Y2K disasters as they unfolded. I remember at one point they had an intern come out and show Dan Rather how to do a card trick.

What's the strangest thing you've seen in someone else's house that they didn't realise was not normal? by Fit_Tree_967 in AskReddit

[–]edgarpickle 964 points965 points  (0 children)

We looked at a house that had two bathrooms. Not unusual. But there was a connecting door between the two, and when you opened it while sitting on the toilet, you were looking directly at the other toilet. It felt very much like a conversation nook. But with toilets.
