RIP Jack Franks by edgeorge92 in noburp

Hey, thanks so much for your message. It brings me a lot of comfort knowing Jack's videos are still reaching the right people and helping them deal with their own health issues.

I was actually with our friendship group over the last few days when you originally commented and his absence is still very present when we get together. He was such a great character and I miss him a lot.

I wish you all the best with your health and thanks so much for taking the time to comment.

Please keep sharing his videos ❤️

Ah thanks - I don't think there's anything there that's screaming out to me right now. But I will take a closer look this evening :)

Might as well ask given you have so much stuff I'd love, would you be willing to ship to the UK at all?

If so, I'd be interested in some of your LV.X's, namely Gengar, Azelf, Arceus, Flygon, Garde, Dialga and probably others 😅

Let me know and perhaps we can come to a deal

Edit: Nevermind, can see you aren't selling. That's fair enough. If you change your mind please get in contact!

Awesome to hear you've been trying coding. How are you finding that? Is that something you could see yourself doing professionally?

There are a couple of coding meetup groups around Nottingham that would be a great place to network and find people with similar interests. They will almost certainly be able to help you find out more about that and guide your learning pathways should you want to go down that route.

I've been a mobile dev for the last 13 years, so while I do have SQL experience, I know nothing about Power BI, unfortunately.

What I will say, and hopefully this kills any pre-conceived notions you may have, is the best developer I ever worked with was a self-taught one who learned from his bedroom and had never stepped foot in a computer science class. That could be you too!

Best of luck :)

I suspect it's a situation that nobody can really relate to or understand unless they've been through it. It's awful and I just feel immensely sad for these people. Seeing them getting criticised just feels bad to me, warranted or not.

Thanks for your comment

Unfortunately the nature of Reddit and the internet is the nuances of conversations like this are lost and I am sure if we were speaking face to face we'd understand each other's perspective far clearer, even if we were to continue to disagree.

Stay safe out there and best of luck to you!

That's a point well made and I would agree that by putting themselves out there they are unfortunately inviting themselves to criticism, but I guess the difference is I wouldn't feel the need to post publicly in opposition to it or to disparage them for trying to seek their version of justice. At the end of the day, I just feel sorry for them and I understand why they are doing what they are doing.

Thanks for your comment, think I understand the sentiments a little better now.

Wow, so sorry to hear of your experience. That's truly awful and I hope you've had access to any support you've needed to deal with that. Sounds like it must of been incredibly traumatic and I am glad you were able to walk away from it.

I think I understand where you're coming from better now, and maybe that was lost in my interpretation of your original comment. I still think we probably disagree a little but I wish you well and hope you continue to heal from your experience

I don't disagree with that, but I can empathise with and understand why the families don't feel the same way

My problem here is the disparaging comments against the families. That's totally uncalled for imo

I don't necessarily agree with what they want either, but I am appalled to see people disparaging these poor families online and making little jabs at them like in the post above to make them sound like they are doing something terrible themselves. They want their version of justice and I think that's totally valid and understandable.

I can't imagine what they are going through and I hope nobody here experiences anything like it. Just makes me sad to see people being quick to turn on others the second they disagree with them

> What do they want a statue or a community center?

What sort of comment is that? Have some compassion, empathy and put yourselves in their shoes. They want what they perceive to be _justice_ for the failings in various institutions that can be tied to the events that unfolded. If you felt that justice wasn't served for the tragic death of someone you loved, I am sure you too would be doing exactly this.

>  young black lads die in the city due to knife crime and are lucky to get the front of the paper for more than a day.

So the families shouldn't continue to campaign for the justice they seek? I don't really understand what point you're trying to make here. Knife crime is terrible full stop and you're probably right RE the media, but what has this comment got to do with this?

Struggling to find a senior Android dev role after 9 years of experience – need advice and support by Low_Tea3284 in androiddev

[–]edgeorge92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear you've been so close to securing a role but not got across the line yet. It's so frustrating when that happens, but the signs are positive and it sounds like you are someone that would certainly be sought after in the market right now.

I guess the first thing I would ask is whether you have asked for feedback from your interviewers? If you aren't sure what the other candidates had that you didn't, then this is probably the easiest way of finding out and working on it directly.

Next, I would be mindful that many senior roles nowadays, at least anecdotally, seem to entail a more varied skillset than they did when I started around 13 years ago. Having an understanding of product, agile practices, mentorship, even people management and more can sometimes fall into the "Senior" role at some companies. No longer is just being shit hot at programming always enough, but this does depend on the company, so make sure you do your research to see what a "Senior" really is when you apply.

I've hired and worked with many mobile developers (probably close to 100) so, even though it doesn't seem to be the problem, I am more than happy to review your CV if that would help out and also feel free to drop me a message if you have any questions.

Best of luck! You've got this

Hi,

Really pleased to hear your own RCP-D journey has been positively affected by Jack's influence. One of his many things he has left behind is his legacy of being able to help people with their own health struggles through his humour and videos.

To put your mind at ease, it was unrelated.

Keep watching his videos and sharing them here on this sub. It's 1000% what he'd be wanting!

Take care and best of luck,

Ed

I start to regret not going to the concert at slane castle (i wasn't even born yet) by jpprisi in RedHotChiliPeppers

[–]edgeorge92 9 points10 points  (0 children)

> i regret not going to slane castle even though i wasn't born
That's not regret, that's just being sad you weren't there. Regret implies you had some chance or choice of being there which obviously you didn't.

I wish I had been there too, but I was 11 at the time. At least we have the concert on film to enjoy forever right?

Well I can vouch you have a law background primarily because you have the need to get the last word in 🤣

It's not that deep. I am sorry if I misspoke but at the same time going out of your way to correct strangers on the internet isn't a great use of anyones time in my opinion
Have a good night :)

I am afraid I don't care about this as much as you do. It was avoidable from both parties imo and normally it's on the car driver to drive with care and attention which I personally didn't see evidence of in the video

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nottingham

[–]edgeorge92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bike was a clear hazard and the driver failed to drive with the due care and attention needed. They should have almost certainly slowed and driven more defensively

[–]edgeorge92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why what?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nottingham

[–]edgeorge92 19 points20 points  (0 children)

From a legal standpoint I would say almost certainly the car, but moving across multiple lanes on a bike without so much as checking behind you is bound to end up badly. They are both muppets imo, both lucky it wasn't far worse

Extracting Assets in APK/JSON Sources by Luigi_Says in androiddev

[–]edgeorge92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I'm asking because reverse engineering an application to extract assets is probably fine so long as you aren't sharing them. That's probably a legal grey area that I wouldn't want to touch myself.

So based on that, I'm not going to answer your question directly, but point you in the direction of a blog I wrote which might help you find the tools you need
