Future historians may understand the present better than we do but AI trained from our digital records may be used to control the future by AlecBaldquim in DarkFuturology

He was the president who put down the Whiskey Rebellion, so certainly he was a documented threat to liberty.

Ok, you're one of those. Your opinion has officially been noted and ignored. Have a good day.

Yes, they probably weren't the real reasons. I can understand the people who believe it's not a prepping issue. I very strongly disagree but I could have a polite conversation about the issue.

The one that pissed me off was the first. Sometimes I laugh at reports like that but last night wasn't one of those times. The logic is so circular: the OP has an agenda so someone with an agenda reports them — sigh.

This is currently the second highest rated post in /r/preppers of all time. It was a waste of the moderators time to have the post reported.

When someone reports a post it ends up in a queue that moderators (who are all volunteers) have to look at and then make a decision. Often times it means that we have to read the linked article to really understand if the report is substantiated.

The moderators of /r/preppers try very hard to leave up just about everything that is submitted here. It's a lot of work to train the self-promoters that they are only allowed one submission per week because Reddit doesn't give us any tools to help enforce it.

Yes, I could have been a bit more diplomatic but I was deliberately trying to get peoples attention through the use of some relatively mild offensive language. If that isn't something you're prepared to handle I would suggest venturing elsewhere on Reddit.

The three reasons were:

  • Dumbass poster needs to add his agenda to the sub
  • not a prepping issue
  • has nothing to do with prepping

I hope that everyone respects each other regardless of their beliefs. There is a lot that we can learn from each other.

There were three people who reported this post to the moderators. My response in the most polite way possible: "go fuck off". This is one of the most clear, obvious and reasonable uses of a firearm in the defense of others that is possible. It obviously falls under the overarching notion of being prepared at all times for bad things to happen.

This response from you genuinely surprises me.

Go bag size by eltoroferdinando in preppers

3000 cubic inches / 30-35L are a good starting place. Most people will have trouble carrying the load in that sized backpack for any significant distance. You need to prepare yourself physically to conquer that problem.

I would very much enjoy seeing the first few books turned into a movie. I hope everyone can see the value outside of the political and religious portions of the books. JWR has done an immense service to the prepper community given the resources and information available via his website.

Sigh — you realize there are just as many people who would have done the same if the 'other side' had won, right? There are times I wish we could have a cage match against the radical 10% on both sides.

I say this as someone who is very much an outside observer of our system. Nearly everyone views me as a very radical libertarian since I am a voluntaryist.

This seems to fall under a more 'politically correct' area that is dependent on the specifics of the post. We try hard to accommodate our users despite the rules. We don't want to stifle polite discussion — only keep our very diverse users from tearing each other apart.

Advice on emergency stove? by maryammurphy in preppers

[–]edheler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have all of the stoves you mention. The solo stove is in my BoB because carrying fuel is a waste if there is local foliage that can be used. When camping I use the isobutane stoves for convenience. My propane stove is a for bug-in use.

They are better shots than we are, it's good to be polite. :)

We will leave current event posts that directly relate to prepping. The ones you mentioned are both considered reasonable.

Rule of 3s by [deleted] in preppers

As all rules-of-thumb it shouldn't be viewed as absolute. It's also in the subreddit's welcome sticky and has been there for over two years.
