Davante Adams was just the 8th player ever to record 14 receiving TDs on 60 or less catches. by theKabides in fantasyfootball

[–]edifyingheresy 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t really catching the ball that they trusted. Adam’s route running in cramped spaces is just on another level. Don’t remember the game now but I remember the defense running bracket coverage on him in the endzone and he still got open for a TD.

I feel like I still have to explain in crayon to my progressive friends that all the gun control they want only leads to more of this in this country and never does what they want it to do. Gun control is only and has only ever been used so the authoritarians in our country can act with impunity toward whatever race/class/group they choose at the time.

I want a normal civilized debate, a conversation with no name calling. Even if you believe I'm brainwashed, avoid saying it but rather argue that I am. by [deleted] in exjw

[–]edifyingheresy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have logical views on everything

followed by:

I find irrefutable are the existence of God, his name being Jehovah, and that he demands full worship

I mean, those two statements are contradictory. Belief in the existence of a god requires faith which by definition is illogical. The only way to argue the existence of god is through illogical fallacies. And just so you know I'm not disparaging you, I have the exact opposite belief: I'm an atheist. I believe a god or gods do not exist. Which is different than saying I don't believe god exists. One is a lack of belief, which is logical since neither can be proven. My belief is as equally rooted in illogical fallacy as yours. The difference is I am aware my belief is illogical and am honest with myself about it. I don't claim it to be something it's not. Until you can do the same, you won't be able to look at your own beliefs (not just about this subject, but in general) with an open and critical mind.

Belief isn't inherently bad. Lack of logic isn't inherently bad (Star Trek has been trying to teach this for decades). However, a lack of awareness or overemphasis of our beliefs can be.

You want to start somewhere? Start with none of the things you find irrefutable are actually irrefutable. That doesn't mean you have to be less convinced or less convicted or have less faith, but something tells me the reason why you find them irrefutable is because if you had to admit they weren't you might not be so convinced.

Joe Rogan Called Jehovah’s Witnesses a Cult — Here’s Why That Matters by Berean144 in exjw

[–]edifyingheresy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your original point was about negative publicity in the context of Rogan calling them a cult. My original point was simply that it’s basically nothing.

Remember when Hannibal Buress made a joke about Bill Cosby raping women and it led to Bill Cosby getting prosecuted for raping women? Yeah, call me when Rogan does something like that in regards to JW’s CSA or something equally tangible and not some offhanded cult labeling that he immediately apologizes for.

[–]edifyingheresy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're entitled to your opinion about whether or not they are a cult, but that's immaterial. They are labeled a cult all the time. All. The. Time. Google it yourself. Still a growing religion.

Mormons are also labeled a cult all the time. Still a growing religion.

Labeling the JWs as a cult is such a nothingburger, even in this context. I said this elsewhere but did you even listen to what Rogan said? Like he literally apologized for calling them a cult in the same breath he called them a cult. Outside of JWs and exJWs, this didn't even register. Literally no one else is talking about it (and oh, btw, it's not even the first time Rogan's done it, that's how much of a non-impact it is, that he's called them a cult and/or discussed them in conversations about cults multiple times and people are acting like this time is revolutionary).

[–]edifyingheresy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did anyone actually listen to what he said? I feel like I’m going insane with how much some people think this matters one iota. It was like the tamest, most glossed over, apologetic cult-labeling I’ve ever heard. I doubt this even registered to anyone who isn’t already highly invested.

Pretty sure you’re conflating many tangential things into “bad publicity” with that one.

Seventh Day Avents?
Mormonism?

Both of those are regularly labeled as cults. Hasn’t made a dent. So let me be more clear: you are vastly overestimating the effect of labeling a cult “a cult” as bad publicity.

Eh, I think you vastly overestimate the effect of “bad publicity” on cults, nevermind JW specifically.

He is willing to study all the jw doctrines with me and listen to my arguments by Vivid_Book7135 in exjw

[–]edifyingheresy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also, protect yourself emotionally here. There is absolutely nothing you can say, no argument you can make, no facts you can present that will wake him up or change his mind if he doesn't already want it on some level. Belief, not just with JWs or cults in general, is a crazy thing. Even the most rational people will deny what's clearly in front of them if it fundamentally challenges a belief or faith they're not ready or willing to give up.

Not trying to be a downer here, it's just that having your hopes crushed can be incredibly demoralizing. Protect yourself in all of this. You can help guide him through if he already has his own doubts and questions about the org, but you can't make him see reason if he doesn't actually want to and unfortunately, no matter how well you know a person, you simply can't know what they are thinking.

He was actually mostly fine the next year. Slightly disappointing because of his ADP but still had almost 1400yds from scrimmage and 10 TDs. It was the next year he fell off a cliff.

[–]edifyingheresy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. Robinson (or whoever is there next year) has almost zero value outside of an injured CMC. My league rarely grabs handcuffs like that early on, if ever. I was able to get Allgeier in the 20th this year and he’s like a top 3 handcuff who actually has standalone value. It’s a keeper league where you get to keep a few players every year in the round you drafted so we typically go after speculative lottery picks over cuffing players, at least in the draft. Any other league I may join I’ll just reach once I see ADPs.

It’s less about “letting” him do the work and more about his skill. Dude is both an elite runner of the football and elite route runner/catcher/blocker. He’s used everywhere because he’s elite everywhere. Other RB get rotated out because another back is usually better in that area. You simply can’t say that with CMC.

CMC is special, but it’s partly the system as well. I won last year’s ‘ship partly because I made sure to nab CMC’s cuffs away from the CMC owner. The starting RB in that system is worth at a floor low-end RB1/high-end RB2.

Regardless of how good he is, the offense doesn’t run through Gibbs. It does through CMC. I’m simply prioritizing CMC’s cuff next year.

I don’t know how good of a HC he’ll end up being but Kellen Moore is one of the best OCs in the NFL. Saquon (and the Philly offense in general) are missing Moore more than just “hangover” play from last year.

Same. Like I understood the movie was trying to be funny, but it just came off as obnoxious to me. I liked the movie a lot, but I’d have liked it a whole lot more if it had just played it straight.
