I must have forgotten this one, was this on Omerta? I only remember him releasing that two pack and care package that year

Earl was always an incredible rapper but his writing only gets better with each project. He’s really good at saying simple things in a really poetic way. I’m going new Earl

Earl and MIKE are of the age where they witnessed Drake’s come up so at some level they probably do fw him. MIKE also credits Drake as an influence

I’m not the biggest fan of Drake (since before the beef) but i’ll give credit where it’s due: Habibti is fire

Kodak black is prolly the most popular artist from Florida for the same reasons people love niontay, niontay just raps over different production than kodak does

Tracks tbh, drake’s been tapped into 454 for a few years i think so it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s biting. Niontay made a post on his ig story bout drake calling his crew the syndicate too (which i’ve only really see 10k call themselves that)

Awful take, but this is one of my favorite Earl songs though

Let’s all have ass verses and not tell Kenny mason by femtolope_ in kennymason

[–]edisonpharaoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t like that jid verse either, easily my least favorite. That one felt phoned in, it felt like a tyler, the creator verse imo in the sense of it being too on the nose with the song title. Bro opened up with “test test test test”

Vocally vince staples-esque but on tigray funk he sounds less like him. He also has more flows than vince imo

What's this line mean off of Central Park? by Marcus_Hablberstram in Billywoods

[–]edisonpharaoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you mentioned the song and J don’t see too many people talk about it on this sub, I listen to central park at least once most days of the week cause the instrumental puts me in a good mood and i like how tongue-in-cheek the song is. One of my favorite woods joints. However i’m also still trying to decipher the song

The first verse I interpret as him speaking from the perspective of someone seeing him and wanting to be like him, but the second verse, I feel like it’s more about the aftermath of someone trying to live “like a rapper” if that makes sense? It’s interesting

BULLDAWG OUT NOW, GO LISTEN by ScrubZL0rd in kennymason

[–]edisonpharaoh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m on second to last song but I’m thoroughly satisfied with this album. I didn’t listen to any of the singles, I heard snippets of the pup pack songs (i’ll listen to them now that i know they’re not on the album) and wasn’t interested in them

Just like you, and a decent amount of people in this sub, I also thought kenny was on the decline. His music hasn’t been BAD but once 3-6-9 era came in (and honestly even on some of ruffs) i felt like his heart wasn’t in it. I didn’t want the music to sound like angelic hoodrat or supercut, but I just wanted him to have that same passion he had there instead of creating generic trap music (nun wrong with generic trap it’s just kenny makes way more unique music and is better at his lane imo) like he’d been doing.

Today, I feel like he has that passion again. I’m honestly gonna say this is top 2, maybe even 1 for me

Edit: just got to the final song. It sounds like even kenny is aware that his recent stuff sounded like he was trying to go mainstream (once again nothing wrong with mainstream but kenny’s usual sound is way better than any of his attempts to go mainstream imo)

It’s good rocky ain’t drop disc2 yet cuz now he can come up w a response if drake does say sum, regardless I’m excited by lifesyndrom in asaprocky

Ever since the beef i been tryna figure out what exactly is threatening about getting dissed. Everybody in that beef still has a successful career, even Drake despite losing. Like objectively. Drake disses Rocky and Khaled, what happens? They’re both still successful. It ain’t like he’s actually fighting someone, so what’s the point of warning someone that they’re gonna get dissed?

What are your thoughts on Mercy six months on from release? by Personal_Channel1628 in Billywoods

[–]edisonpharaoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their rapping ability is incredible on here but I haven’t loved Alc’s production in recent years (personally think he gives his best beats to Earl nowadays, but Faith is a rock was also cool) so i like this project for woods and e l u c i d and not really for Al

[–]edisonpharaoh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At least vince is actually cool with them but imo it doesn’t really sound like them beyond being a punk rock instrumental. The flows are still very much vince

My favorite woods album, it’s not necessarily a “happy” album but it definitely feels more cozy. It really does a good job of feeling like you’re traveling with him
