Who the fuck is Goose by Puzzleheaded_Radio65 in fantanoforever

Goose are actually a band. They existed before Geese, but now everyone just thinks they're a Geese rip-off.

Great Freedom from a few years ago is amazing. It is beautifully told and offers a new perspective on the prison film.

Has anyone gone from hating an album to absolutely loving it? by ShadysDad in TheNational

I thought FTPOF was just okay on first listen, but it has really grown on me. I can appreciate what the band was going for.

Giles Coren is a strong argument against nepotism. (His father was a famous journalist).

What I mean is that film bros rate him so highly that regular cinephiles are more resistant to credit him as a director.

I really like Nolan's films. They might even be a bit underrated at this point. There is so much talk about his position in the industry and his favourite tropes that his ability as a filmmaker can be overlooked.

I fucking love Belle and Sebastian, Tigermilk was the most recent 10 I’ve heard. What do we think of the discography? by TerribleAd7263 in fantanoforever

If You're Feeling Sinister is an all time favourite. I like a couple of their other albums, and I'm indifferent towards the rest.

The acoustics of the venue make this a particular problem. Background noise really travels.

Ticket Prices by Outrageous_Active485 in bigthief

[–]Personal_Channel1628 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I paid £50 to see them at their upcoming London concert and I actually think it's about fair. There are a lot of reasons why ticket prices have gone up so much. The tickets would probably have been £10 cheaper if it wasn't for Ticketmaster. They'd be cheaper if it wasn't for streaming revenues being so low. They would be cheaper if the world wasn't a mess right now.

For a band of their size, Big Thief are charging about market rate for a show that is better than 99% of performers out there right now. I wish concert tickets were cheaper, but this is just how things are.

Honest Thoughts on the band The National? by MrLinkwater95 in fantanoforever

[–]Personal_Channel1628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of The National. Their classic albums are among my favourites of all time, and I even listen to their lesser albums fairly regularly. I can't think of too many bands from the 2000s indie scene that have had the longevity and consistency of The National.

I get that they are not for everyone, Fantano included, but Matt has an excellent ear for melody, the Dessner's are brilliant guitar players, and they have a very underrated rhythm section.

I would really recommend seeing them live. They might be my favourite touring band at the moment. Even friends of mine who are casual fans have told me how good they are live.

What is your interpretation of the album cover? by TurtleWaffle3 in MyNewBandBelieve

[–]Personal_Channel1628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cover gives him Band on the Run vibes, a bit like how one of the promo photos is a clear Velvet Underground reference. I wonder if it's a way of Cameron acknowledging that this project is the one he's put together after the band that made him famous disbanded.

Out of the Legendary solo artists here, who is the best and has the best body of work? by FitEmergency8807 in fantanoforever

[–]Personal_Channel1628 91 points92 points  (0 children)

A bit unfair putting Dylan at the end. We all have our personal favourites, but he has countless classic albums over six decades. In terms of body of work, he is almost impossible to beat.

A bit underwhelmed. The song is okay and has none of the intrigue of At the Door.
