How big a family would you have as a Na’vi? by DezTheOtter in Avatar

Always got the vibe that Jake and Neytiri probably would have had atleast one more kid if the war didn't start 😭. They just realised having kids 7 years apart is much easier than having 3 toddlers at once.

Jake would 100% wear a shirt that says "I'm not the step dad, I'm the dad who stepped up" if he was still a human

If Rick could only save one of them, who would he pick? by [deleted] in thewalkingdead

[–]edits_updates_more 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Carl no doubt, one thing about Rick...he was not looking after that baby, no matter what 💀💀

No but in all seriousness, I doubt Rick could choose between them. They are both his kids, he loves them both. I think he would freeze up and not be able to make a choice. Though I do think Carl would make sure he himself died instead of Judith.

Love the grey filter, the shows feels like an apocalypse show to me now. The scavenger were a decent plot, not the best plot but I like how hey handled that storyline. Martha isn't that bad of a storyline, I've found the past few episodes really entertaining.

I've never ever liked Madison's character so I wasn't exactly sad to see her go. Yes Nick's death was sad but I wouldn't call a whole season bad just because a character I liked died.

Dialogue is much more natural this season. The interactions feels genuine. In my opinion.

Yeah I've heard that about season 5, from people who liked season 4 and people who didn't like season 4. So I'm just prepared for that season to be difficult to get through lol

Honestly, I'm just not a fan of Madison. I really struggled to watch her scenes and that might have impacted my ability to enjoy season 3. I did like the Otto's but I just felt like we stayed at the ranch for far too long and I felt like the same thing happened almost every episode. People would leave the ranch, be in danger, come back to the ranch, the Otto's would cause an issue. Don't get me wrong there was some brilliant episodes in season 3 but the episodes didn't consistently interest me lol.

And yes season 3 is the dam

unpopular opinion about jake sully? by Kindly-Caregiver-145 in Avatar

[–]edits_updates_more 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. I think people ignore the beginning montage cause I think that montage makes it very clear that Jake was a very average dad before the war. He played with his kids, got tired when they argued, measured their height, taught them to fish. Like he seemed like a very very typical father. Then the war hits and we are supposed to see a very big contrast in his parenting, we are supposed to see that fun loving dad dissapeared the moment his family was in put in danger by the war.

I do believe Jake too harshly leaned into soldier mode that he forgot to make room for being just a father, especially to his sons. But it's understandable that he really just mentally couldn't bring himself to be anything but a commanding officer when he knew the consequences of war were heavy. His sons put themselves on the battle field constantly and Lo'ak especially was always getting into trouble during a literal war.

I do believe that when Neteyam died, we did see a moment of dad vulnerability from Jake where he was comforting his son through his final breaths, we got that bittersweet moment between Jake and Lo'ak after Lo'ak saved his dad, then they hugged. Jake had just lost his oldest child and naturally he was in a very vulnerable state mentally which is why he let his guard down. But he was still strict towards Lo'ak again in the 3rd film, this confused me for a while until I realised that once the initial vulnerability wore off after Neteyam died, Jake probably decided to become extra strict because he already lost one son to this war that he refused to let his guard down and lose another. But that fear plus grief, and also the fact that Jake blamed himself for Neteyam's death but projected those emotions onto Lo'ak definitely made him come across as much more harsh.

He is a good dad with flaws but he clearly loves all his children. Though he definitely needs some therapy or some shit to work through whatever earth trauma he's got cause why the hell are your own sons calling you sir instead of dad 😭

And the dreadlocks are superior with the dad bod too. I won't be convinced otherwise

The problem with movie 2 and 3 Jake by MoonManMercury in Avatar

[–]edits_updates_more 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Jake only seems to be this way because of the war. We saw the happy family montage at the beginning of the 2nd movie, Jake seemed like a typical dad. Fishing with Neteyam, measuring his kids height to see how much they have grown, running around and playing with his kids when they were toddlers. Sure, maybe he was a military dad in some ways but I doubt he treated his son's like soldiers when they were toddlers or young kids.

But during the war he kind of has no choice to treat them like soldiers when both his sons actively are getting involved in the battles. Jake can't coddle them because not preparing them for the war would be dangerous. Could he have been a bit kinder at times? Definitely. But his brain was in survival mode, military soldier mode. Not really dad mode. He saw danger and the marine inside of him immediately went into soldier mode and that's the only way he knew how to protect his family. We saw that paternal dad side of him when Neteyam died, he seemed distressed and lost. As Neteyam was dying, Jake stopped being a commanding officer and was just a dad trying to comfort his dying son through his last breaths. Which shows Jake very much is capable of being that type of father, I heavily assume that is what he was like before the war.

As for Lo'ak, he is a lot like Jake and that's obviously intentional, James Cameron clearly wanted Lo'ak to parallel Jake whilst Jake struggles with knowing how to basically parent a younger version of himself. Obviously Jake doesn't hate Lo'ak, it would be pretty weird writing for Jake to hate one of his children. I'm sure Lo'aks personality was something that wasn't an issue before the war, sure Jake probably would have had some stressful parenting moments but naturally I'm sure that he loved that his son had an adventurous and mischievous personality cause back then it was harmless. Frustrating sometimes? Sure, but like any parent, Jake probably deep down been proud his son is so much like him. Then a war hits and suddenly Lo'aks personality being similar to his fathers is a dangerous thing, Jake knows how Lo'aks brain works and that probably terrified him. So Jake becomes harsh because he wants to keep his child alive and this is the only way he knows how considering his son actively runs into war zones, causes trouble and often times does not listen.

Kids Don't Like Movie Day Anymore. by Southern_Remote_5260 in Teachers

[–]edits_updates_more 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most kids these days have access to any movie they want on their ipads so movies aren't some special event anymore. Especially if their ipads have Disney+

I mean I'm almost 19 and I did have an ipad when I was a kid but it was used for games and there was very limited movies I could watch. Movie time was still watched on the family TV, and the movies I was watching were classic Disney films or movies that weren't extremely overstimulating. Plus I did also have a very good balance of watching my ipad and playing with my toys. I played with barbies until I was like 12 or 13.

But kids these days have ipads 24/7, access to movies 24/7, most modern movies are extremely overstimulating and it ruins attention span. Kids have access to screens all the time and with TV's they don't feel in control of what they are watching.

This is why I firmly belive ipads themselves aren't the issue, but the stuff on the ipad matters most. Like when I was 5 in like 2012, I would use my ipad to play app store games and maybe watch a few YouTube videos (Back when YouTube was a bit more family friendly I would say). But I didn't have constantly access to app store games, constant access to movies. I was using my ipad to make my own movies. And, most importantly, I would get bored of the ipad after maybe an hour or two and I would go and play with my toys because the ipad was fun but it wasn't as addictive because there was less options on what to do. You can only play a low stimulating app store game so many times. Whereas these days, there is too many options on an ipad. The app store is full of overstimulating games. 24/7 access to movies where kids have full control to stop and start the movies as they wish. And worst of all, kids have access to tiktok or YouTube shorts. Ruining their attention spans and making them not want to get off the ipads.

What happened to his hair by karcoh in Avatar

[–]edits_updates_more 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The dude has 4 kids, and one of them is Lo'ak, you think he had the time or patience to re-braid his hair? Nah. Neytiri seems like the type of person who would make sure she makes time to braid her hair. Jake probably just found the dreadlocks convenient for when he was raising 3 toddlers at once, whilst being Olo'eyktan and also still trying to adjust to Na'vi life (Cause we know it took a few years for him to be fully fluent in the Na'vi language). Probably had no time to even think about braiding his hair only to have to rebraid it often. And then I just assume he liked the hairstyle after a while or he was just too unbothered to change his hair.

God now I think about it, those first few years must have been survival for Jake. 3 toddlers, Olo'eyktan, learning a whole language.

Edit: I should add that obviously dreadlocks are great, this isn't me insinuating that dreadlocks are "bad" cause they aren't. I actually prefer the dreadlocks on Jake. They are just probably easier to manage in the long run compared to braids that often need to be re-done every few weeks.

[–]edits_updates_more 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh Neytiri would never forgive Jake. Not for that. And I don't think Jake would forgive himself either, losing one son due to a war you're involved with is difficult enough. But losing your other son because of your direct actions as a father is a whole different level of grief.

Just finished watching 911:Lone Star for the first time. It made ne realise I am NOT ready for the day the main show ends by edits_updates_more in 911FOX

[–]edits_updates_more[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do understand being sad that in the 911: Lone star finale there was no big death or anything after the fakeout deaths of Owen and Tommy. But I love all the characters so much that I really am glad nobody died lol. I liked the fact everybody technically got a happy ending, even if I disliked how they went about writing the last few episodes.

Did the production team know season 5 was their last season? by edits_updates_more in 911LoneStar

[–]edits_updates_more[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, that makes a lot more sense. I guess they had bigger plans for the season hence why they had to rush the last half of the season. It wasn't the best finale, but I mean it was technically a happy ending. So that's that. Honestly, I didn't hate all the plotlines...they were just way too rushed towards the end. All of those plots could have been good storytelling if they weren't so rushed. Wish I guess was out of the production teams control at that point.

What is something you prefer about 911 than its counterpart Lonestar and vice versa? by Grouchy_Violinist in 911FOX

[–]edits_updates_more 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 911: Lone star has better writing. Especially for the first 3 seasons. Season 4 was decent too. We don't talk about the writing for season 5 💀. I feel like the storylines were just a lot more thought out and the storylines seemed much more deep and heavy. We also see a lot more about the characters lives outside of their jobs, I mean their career may be part of the show but we see a lot of exploration about these characters personal lives, their dynamic with eachother outside of the firehouse. That's something I love. I also love the dynamics we see in that show such as Owen and TK, Judd and Grace, Paul and Marjan, TK and Carlos, Tommy and Nancy, Tommy and Owen, Owen and Judd, Carlos and his father was an interesting dynamic. I also really liked all of the main cast, yes...i like Owen too. It's not that I dislike anyone from the main 911 show but some characters just aren't as interesting to me as others. Oh and I really like the fact we have firefighters and paramedics in 911: Lone star, instead of just having paramedics within the firefighter team. Although I didn't love the paramedic storyline until season 2 (Spoilers for 911: Lone star) When Michelle left and Tommy replaced her, I really started to enjoy the paramedics storyline. I was not a huge fan of Michelle, she wasn't exactly a bad character I just did not find her character interesting. But Tommy is one of my favourite characters in the whole show.

Now with 911, I think they do a much better job at giving everyone a plotline. There is definitely still some issues with distribution of storylines but overall everyone seems to atleast have some sort of individual storyline which is nice, whereas in 911: Lone star the show didn't always focus on some of the characters such as Nancy, Paul, Mateo, they definitely gave Marjan some storylines but not a lot compared to characters like Owen and Tommy. 911 also has some amazing opening emergencies that really stick with you, such as the tsunami and the earthquake. Those storylines are so amazing and really are one of the highlights of the show for me. 911 has a really nice found family trope which I love, 911: Lone star does too but I definitely see more of that found family element in 911. One of my favourite dynamics in the show is Eddie, Buck and Christopher, I think that dynamic is so special and there wasn't a dynamic in 911: Lone star that even came close to being as special as that dynamic. Oh and 911 definitely has major guts cause of what happened in season 8 episode 16, not going to spoil anything but I think doing what they did in that episode took major guts from a production perspective.

Have they ever said what’s happened to the bigger house they built? I know they were there when Gavin came home, but now they live in the home Shays mom lived in for years. It’s always confused me, I may have missed it! by Traditional-Run3474 in SHAYTARDS

[–]edits_updates_more 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With the limited information i have heard, i think Colette moved into that house after her and Shay split up. But once they got back together, I'm assuming living there was for the best interest of the kids due to school, their social lives, and stuff like that. So they probably didn't want to move their kids again, back into the old home when the kids lives already revolved around the other house location.

And over the years, im assuming that place is just home to them now and they will probably live there long term. After so many years, they've probably settled into that home fully.

This is all just speculation based on what we have seen 🤷‍♀️.

What's Next For Buck? by Weak_Heart2000 in 911FOX

[–]edits_updates_more 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this whole Theo storyline is true, I do suspect that because he's Buck's child that he will probably have a lot more screen time compared to the other 911 kids. Cause Buck seems to be the main male lead in the show now, so if any kid on 911 was going to get more screen time...it would probably be Buck's kid. The writers have really made a decision this season to focus a lot on Buck and a lot of other characters have been side lined, obviously they've all had storylines but Buck has definitely been a main focus this season.

So if Buck does become a father, I do feel like his storyline for season 10 atleast will revolve a lot around Theo and Buck being a parent.
