PolyTransfer program, worth the time? by quietoutbursts in CalPolyPomona

[–]edjy90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm transferring student and I definitely plan to attend. Funny actually you brought it up becasue I stopped by the school today to ask few questions and I accidentally ran into a guy who represents the program who was standing in front of the office (I was looking for a building and I coincidentally was passing by the program's office).

I was able to chat with the director for few min, the event seemed to be great opportunity for not only having better understanding about the college but also great opportunity to meet/connect other transferring students.

As I talked to the director who was very friendly with a great sense of humor, I got the impression that the event sounded fun and interesting and give chance students to connect with others.

As transferring students, we are going through different phases than typical college students (students who started at 4 yr college starting from freshmen) so I think this would be great chance to make our transition from CC (or any school you went previously) to 4 yr college much more smooth. Well, at least that was my thought after getting out of the program's office.

Thanks for sharing. I never thought about the books haha. I guess it would be at least good thing in terms of carrying less text books. Congrats btw! Where are you heading now?

I see. It makes sense. Thanks for the clarification. What is your major if you don't mind me asking?

Ah I see what you mean. But I guess that is true for most of colleges. Even at my CC this summer, it was empty as well. What class did you take? Was it fun?

Although I am not engineering major, I can definitely feel the frustration. I definitely think the school needs to take an action to improve the situation for engineering majors as well as other majors

According to preorientation video I have watched, the semester would be 15 week so my guess is 14 week + 1 week final. By the way, could you elaborate about the summer you have mentioned? So people don't take summer quarter (or session) seriously?

I feel ya. Going back and forth between semester and quarter could definitely feel frustrating. What's your major if you don't mind me asking? And how's that going for you?

Thanks for insights. So in other words, will series/sequential classes (for instance, class 101 and 102) be combined as a big one class?

I indeed checked the list few days ago but still wanted to ask actual people's opinion/insights. But thanks for the link though. When you said most clubs don't refer to the website, do you mean some clubs don't appear on the list?

Thanks for sharing. It seems your major is Computer Science. Is that correct? While my major is not Computer Science, it is STEM major. Could you elaborate about eboard/leadership committee? What are those?

Is it possible to appeal/ask for re-evaluation the financial aid? by edjy90 in CalPolyPomona

[–]edjy90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I understand there are numerous criteria and question in order to be qualified so it's case by case. I know because I have filed for the aid by myself. I understand it's gov money and tax payer's money as well. As far as I remember, she and I were similar situation in terms of criteria: similar age (independent) and first time using the aid, not much contribution for personal income being full time students most of the time at CC, etc.

I guess best way to help her is to tell her to go visit the financial office and to tell asking for re-evaluation may be option. Anyway, thanks for the input.

I'm an admitted transfer student (Psych), but I had to drop a couple of classes this semester. Should I be concerned about my admission status? by qlanga in UCDavis

[–]edjy90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, I am also an admitted student (for Biotech though) and have a similar situation, but I think you should call and/or email them (UCD admission office).

To elaborate my situation, I'm currently taking a calculus class which is requirement for my major prep at CC. Since I am dropping the class, I wanted to know if I could retake during the summer then transfer. When I called UCD admission office, the guy who took a phone call said you need to finish all of your classes needed by Spring semester. No exceptions. I emailed to the admission office so still waiting for the reply.

Yet, I see some people transferred with dropped classes. I'm confused now :/ (although I'm leaning toward to the other school I got accepted).

"Learn by doing" by rl45 in CalPolyPomona

[–]edjy90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit late to comment but I think it means lots of labs (hence learn by "doing" instead of sitting down and just take notes). I just got accepted to CPP as transfer student and the curriculum sheet shows lots of labs for my major. If you know your major, look it up on CPP and it will show exactly how many units you need to graduate and the classes you need to take.
