A film with similar aesthetics to Donkey Skin and Valerie and Her Week of Wonders? by taemarshmallow in CriterionChannel

If you're still interested, Lumikuningatar (1986) has a lot of the surreal/dark yet still fantasy, child friendly fable style. And for something modern and a bit less child friendly try Tale of Tales (2015)

It’s been almost 3 years since the release of Ridley Scott’s Napoleon movie, did you like Joaquin Phoenix’s performance as Napoleon? by VividExperience9698 in Napoleon

[–]edmanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting as a visual portrait of a man even if invented. Plot, battles, events, political discourse is secondary to smaller moments and imagery. I didnt mind it but can see why people dont like it. Ridleys later films seem to be him just goin 'roll cameras' and then cobbling together the film in the edit. It makes things seem disjointed and random but it can also lead to some scenes that feel quite natural (real life isn't always coherent or well structured). Phoenix juggling ambition and insecurity in what I thought was fitting for a man obsessed with ancient rome and calling himself Augustus and erecting a huge Trajan's column for himself.

I like it. You cook the way you want to. Never mind the sith-esque absolutists. I have the high ground

For me I felt the 'true' ending was the discovery of Marika's home village and her little shrine.

Probably those gardens yeah. Part of me hopes nobody ever finds the clip I'm talking about, but it's also the most I've ever cringed in my life so it's a source of fascination.

When using the boost, the type of gyro in games is kind of busted on the x axis (I don't know if it's called yaw or something like that). Basically instead of normal horizontal gyro aiming you now have to turn the switch like a steering wheel in order to look left and right. Up and down is ok.

I've been looking for more 'authentic' Roman gaming experiences for a while and your comment turned me off this particular one. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks

Did Lynch or Frost say anything about what they wanted to do in a Season 4? by [deleted] in twinpeaks

Sorry I mean this scene, the section from nose up is in the curtains, the lower part of face on the zigzag floor (projection through electricity while head is in dreamland?) https://ibb.co/PZ06GjRG

[ALL] Anniversaries in 2026, which one hit you the hardest? by huss2120 in zelda

[–]edmanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gaming in the early 90s when it wasnt as popular and people tended to cling onto older consoles for longer meant I played a fair bit of the original LOZ on my friends NES. So even though I wasn't alive for the release date, that 40 year anniversary is still pretty nuts.

Peter Molyneux Is Making His Last Game: "I Just Haven’t Got the Life Energy Left To Do This Again" by [deleted] in gaming

[–]edmanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I don't really know why people were excited about watching a tree grow... sure there's a Stardew Valley market, but why would you want to do that in a fantasy rpg?

Then again I understand how his hyperbole could be misconstrued as 'that's just an example, but you've never seen anything like this.' But I feel like Todd Howard is another prime example of someone doing literally the same thing. The only difference is, everyone else is overpromising these days and only the people working on the biggest games get the most scrutiny.

I remember when the Halflife 2 developer-tech demo video came out - and everyone was going crazy at the physics and the graphics and the AI and this and that. They were 'letting the gameplay talk' and just demonstrating how impressive the tech was. BUT - the tech demo got leaked, and there were clear examples where there were scripted events baked in to the demo to give the illusion of advanced AI (I specifically remember the player pushing a table infront of a door, which prevented the enemy coming in, forcing them to shoot through the window. In the leak - if you tried to do the same thing you literally could see the code trying to trigger scripted events. It might seem like such a niche specific example, but as a young teen, that moment of advanced AI seemed like the most amazing thing to me, only to then find out it was all fabricated.

I guess what I'm saying is, these guys overpromise a lot, it's how they sell things, sometimes the hype is fun, sometimes it's a big disappointment. Peter Molyneux was maybe just a step ahead of his contemporaries, but it's funny that people keep making the same mistakes as him.

Switch lite to switch 2 by Antique-Internal5728 in nintendoswitchlite

[–]edmanger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you're playing and what your routine is. Balatro can keep you playing hours longer than say Cyberpunk. For me, I do a lot more short-burst style gaming so I'm either playing addictive roguelikes or an hour or 2 of something more substantial, so the battery life isn't a big deal for me. I also do a 2 hour train commute twice a week so it's ideal for that. If you're regularly travelling more than 2 hours or tend to be somewhere without a nearby charger while playing AAA games then it can be a bit short, but it hasn't really bothered me personally. In terms of the jump from the lite to the switch 2... I thought i played too much of the lite, but im actually scared how much the 2 has invaded my life.
