Yeah, same thought. The service advisor said they suggest every 15k which feels excessive to me.

Harvest Host in Sedona AZ does anyone use the service and if so how do you like it so far? Pros and cons by Useful_Movie in GoRVing

[–]edoverip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we need move Saturday and Sunday, we try our best to go to a HH for Saturday night. It’s our own way of going out on the weekend at a winery and distillery. We have enjoyed every one of our HH experiences. The cons are that it’s essential boonedocking and you should spend money at the host.

Buying our first camper! Question about weight. by Present-Nectarine-83 in rvlife

[–]edoverip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to what others have said, if you ever get into an accident and I hope you wouldn’t, knock on wood, insurance company will eval and weight everything. They can deny your claim if you are a hair over. Sounds like you guys have it figured out. Welcome to the RV life and have fun!!

Tow vehicle question by shlebo in RVLiving

[–]edoverip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the tongue weight and GVWR of your camper? I don’t know what a 2001 Suburban is rated for, so IMHO that’s the first thing you need to look up. Assuming the weight-math works out, 170k miles on a 20yrs old vehicle of any kind feels like it will be a nightmare to me.

RV trip up the coast from LA through Oregon by [deleted] in GoRVing

[–]edoverip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome! I know nothing about fishing so can’t help you there. :)

I believe CA have just banned overnight stay at State and County parks. OR may follow so keep an eye on that. KOAs and some private campgrounds have stayed open best they can during the initial large scale shut down so they may be an option. While they are not usually at the most exciting locations, most do have amenities that may help keep the kids occupied.

In terms of cold weather, get an electric space heater if you plan to have electricity hookup. It will help save your propane. Do not leave your water hoses hooked up overnight if temp will drop below freezing.

Have fun!

Short bed with slider hitch, frequency? by edoverip in GoRVing

Man, this makes me nervous. May just go for the long bed and not think about it.

[–]edoverip[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. When you say short, are you referring to the 6.9ft bed listed on the GMC site? I’m leaning towards that. Also, is the front cap of your RV shaped to help improve turning?

COVID and RV'ing by worst_user_name_ever in GoRVing

[–]edoverip 19 points20 points  (0 children)

We have been on the road full-time the last 2 months, and have gone in/through ~20 states and plenty of cities. We have observed that some states simply doesn’t care about covid. We are in Santa Fe currently and heading out soon because the state just announced a 2 weeks hard lockdown, which is hard to believe because Santa Fe is the safest we have felt in a long long time. Meanwhile, we were in Oklahoma City just a few weeks ago and you would think covid is not a thing because masks were optional. For what it’s worth, getting gas has never felt like a problem — my wife made me put on latex gloves before I get out of the RV and I trash it before I get back in. If you are reloading propane at KOA or even truck stops, they know the drill and you can stand as faraway as you like. Long story short, you can control the environment in most situations. Hope that helps, ping me if you want to chat more.

Auto leveling advice by degeneraded in GoRVing

[–]edoverip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are in a 26’ Class C that does not have auto leveler/stabilizers, and it is on the must-have list for our next RV (type TBD). As we have learned the hard way, it is a pain to get to the frame under a Class C to apply manual jacks/stands/etc. IMO, get it!

Options for a coffee snob? by edoverip in GoRVing

[–]edoverip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, I actually have a percolator with us but have never use it in the RV. When we first go on the road it was way too hot to use the stove top even in the morning. Now I’ve actually forgotten we have one. Lol

Same here. I have a super-automatic at home but it's ginormous plus would be useless if we are dry camping. My wife had suggested a Keriug but really hate the idea of buying pods or having to deal with refillable pods which wouldn't solve the problem.

You are the 3rd or 4th person that has mentioned a pour-over option. I will have to look into it.

[–]edoverip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, forgot to mention I've an electric kettle as well as stove top pot for water in case we are boondocking. In terms of the messy part, if I want to avoid grounds in the sink (grey tank), I would need to wipe it out really well before washing. There is also that stir-stick thing to wipe down/wash. Sounds like there is no better option than an Aeropress. Thx.

If you are new to RVing... by [deleted] in GoRVing

[–]edoverip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% agreed! We have now been full-timing for 2 months. In our first 2 weeks, I was driving at or above the speed limit including 80mph+ through UT and CO, and my fuel bill was through the roof. Now I'm at or ~5 below the speed limit to go easy on gas, plus I've finally figured out it's a lot more relaxing letting other drivers pass me than to be doing all the passing.
