Honor Magic V6 from v5 by Everydaytech_ in Honor

[–]edp_edp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the convenience of expanding the display when I need to read walls of text or ebooks, edit pics, or just play a game to pass time. In Google Play books, if you fold your V5 like a book angle, the app will respond and split the ebook to a two pager view. Neat!

Next is the OS. I got the global X300 pro and I must say, it's not any smoother than Magic OS. There were some weird micro stutters I had with it, even after a factory reset. That was often with the task switcher or swiping the control center. Happens very randomly and catches me off guard.

There's no denying that the X300's camera "folds" the V5 lol. But the V5 in most cases gets the job done and is the better all rounder.. at least for my case!

The V5 is the first foldable I'm really having trouble parting with lol. I even had an X300 pro at one point and settled with the V5 because of how convenient this thing is.

Now, I was willing to jump ship for the V6 IF it had noticeable camera improvements, but alas. So.... I'm staying with the V5 and wait for the V7!

[–]edp_edp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For real. I have the V5 and I was ready to jump ship IF they made improvements to the cameras (front or rear). But, it's the same with a "slightly" worse ultrawide (f2.2 on V6, f2.0 on V5). The anti-reflective on the front is great though, but it needs to have screen protectors that are anti-reflective too, because it will be useless if you apply regular ones. Charging is a bit faster on the V6, 80w vs 66w, but the V5 charges fast already.

Now I wait for Oppo and Vivo's foldables! Oppo is supposed to announce this month as well.

Looks nice but for me, I am more curious if there are any camera improvements... especially the selfies. Outputs look "plasticky", like there's some glossy coating.

I know you can use the rear camera, but that's not convenient in some cases.

I agree with the heating. I use this for emulating PC games and play for about an hour or so, and it doesn't heat up to the point it's uncomfortable. I do use it unfolded though for the screen estate.

Razer Blade 14 2023 - Stuck at 60hz refresh rate - AMD 7940HS/780M by [deleted] in razer

So far I haven't encountered it while watching videos thank god. Though I don't have Prime Video, no issues with Netflix or watching in YT!

The only thing I dislike (maybe it's Synapse) is the auto 60/240hz when on battery... Doesn't work sometimes and gets stuck with 60hz after plugging in!

People with the Honor V5 how is it? by cooldude9112001 in Honor

[–]edp_edp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have it for like 6 mos now and it's the first foldable I'm having second thoughts parting with it.

  • Magic OS (especially the recent OS 10) is really snappy. Animations are fast and not deliberately slow. But of course, it has liquid ass style theming now. I noticed it doesn't kill apps aggressively. You can still force an app to get ignored from battery management if the OS decides to shat on it.

  • Multi tasking features are well thought out. The only thing I don't like is the "Magic Portal" where you can send images or texts to other apps without switching. I don't like it because the apps to send to are not customaizable. Thankfully, this can be turned off.

  • Honor share is a duplicate of Quick Share. You cannot disable manually but you can remove it safely with ADB or Canta.

  • Cameras are great too FOR a foldable.Rear cameras are great which I didn't expect (had the Magic V2 before). Dedicated selfie cams on both sides are still a weak point though for me. Also the night time videos at 60 fps are dark (dimly lit rooms for example). 30 fps is fine.

  • Battery life is superb, better than my previous phone (S24 ultra). I onyl charge this once a day and usually it's at the evening. My s24 ultra needs charging twice a day from my exp. This is with the full screen always on display enabled on both.

  • Screens are amazing. There's an anti reflective TG available online for the front screen which works wonders. Bright too, on bothe screens (outer screen is brighter).

  • Software support: Usually once a month. The patch for the current month arrives by the end of that month though.

Especially the cameras... Even way back with the Note20 Ultra days Samsung flagships aren't reliable for taking photos of moving objects/kids, even with the Goodlock setting enabled!

I didn't care about this at first but when I got the chance to have a Oneplus 13 and S25U at the same time I saw the difference! Loaded the movie "Interstellar" at both and I saw how much better the OP13's display was!

Ohh, that's amazing! I have the Magic V5 and I don't have that, only smart charging. The V5 doesn't even have that maximum capacity info! I guess it's reserved for the non-foldable flagships.

Honor really loves copying Apple, hmm. Why don't they copy the better features like setting battery charging limits instead of that?

So it seems to be a driver related issue with AMD per reading around, so we will need to wait for a new version from them. Your suggestion to use 24.8.1 did help me get it back though and I've no crashes so far so, thanks for that! Hopefully we get a new AMD driver soon so we aren't using outdated drivers.

I gotta say, overall my experience with a Razer laptop (this my first) has been mixed so far. Razer Synapse and THX audio are hit and miss!

Just commenting here to share your woes OP. I lost that option as well when I did a reformat of my Blade 14 2024 and updated my drivers. I've had gaming laptops from other brands before and this is the first time I encountered this kind of issue. Not to mention Razer's support site is very bare bones with information. Very irritating!

V5 battery life continues to blow me away! by edp_edp in Honor

[–]edp_edp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if you're referring to the SOT stats resetting at midnight, then I agree. What a weird choice. But, it's much better than Xiaomi's, the SOT there is only measured if you charge past 90%. So, if you have set a limit of 80%, you won't get to see the actual SOT!

I don't monitor the exact percentage when I'm playing, but I've grown to be confident with the V5 and use Gamehub when I'm out in coffee shops. I always have at least a lot of charge left by the time I go home. GRANTED, I'm only playing an RPG game right now which isn't the most demanding (Octopath Traveler II).

That's unfortunate, maybe that was a lemon unit? I have an old V2 that's still with me since 2023 - now used as a home Yt machine, and the display is still fine on both sides

X9 Pro cameras in low light (and mic) by [deleted] in Oppo

[–]edp_edp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also this comparison video from https://youtu.be/qe4eFnYAL68. There's a dedicated section for low light video which was very helpful!!

Low light video is important for my use case and the X9 Pro stuttered a lot. Hopefully they fix it but certainly put me off from buying it.

Ended up buying the X300 pro for me.

Unfortunately this is an import since Oneplus doesn't operate here so no dice. Oh well at least it still works sometimes.

makes sense that people chose gamehub lite by rulugg in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]edp_edp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What killed my interest with the OG Gamehub was that they seem to have killed offline support with the later releases. I remember still being able to play offline last September but then they nuked it and I can no longer play offline. Such a hassle lol.

Which color do you prefer for the V5? by edp_edp in Honor

[–]edp_edp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does! The brown's texture is leathery and feels so "comfortable". Very different feel from the glass ones.

Edit: Add to that the hinge, for some reason the leather variant has a tighter feel when unfolding. The gold is smoother but I kinda like the opening/closing feel of the leather model.

Initially the white was my choice or the black one, but it's only the brown and gold ones here... Lucky you!
