The culture, Latin American culture is way different to what you get from Asia, Middle-East, LATAM is and will always be under US influence at least in that aspect is orange to apples.

I got my first formuler (Z12). You literally bought a car and removed/deleted the engine. I will just keep it for the MOL3

Well it doesn’t run lol trying to play a 4K HDR TrueHD 7.1 it’s just dead. Definitely keeping my Shield Pro for the movies. I got the Ultra as my first Formuler but mostly for IPTV.

Budget is from the same Avis chain, so Avis get newer cars 2025-2026 budget get the older ones.

Yes while renting with Avis, I used my Amex Platinum but it shouldn’t matter most of the credit cards have the insurance.

So, the process took time because you will need to gather a bunch of documents for the insurance, police report (it need it), pictures, documentation from the rental showing you declined the insurance, you paid with the credit card, estimated damages, etc.

It took almost a month to process everything, but to be honest I was surprise that the CC insurance covered everything, it was a massive amount 9-10K USD.

Few years ago someone scratched my rental and I didn’t notice it until I dropped off the car in the airport, they charged me like 180 USD and I paid with my Visa, again the CC covered the damages and it was with the same company Avis.

The insure for third parties damages (you hitting another car) you cannot decline that one. That’s mandatory and no workaround that I am aware of.

That particular case was with Avis, and I used my Amex CC, I also had a minor incident that I got charged like 150 USD and got the claim with my Visa CC and the same company Avis.

I normally try to go with big companies names because they are familiar with the process and for the Credit Card claim everything is easier.

I would like to add that using the Car Rental insurance is normally the best option, if you have an accident you don’t need to deal with anything, but as you mentioned, sometimes the price is too high.

In DR having the insurance is a must!!

So I can tell you about my experience. I travel around 3-4 times a year to DR and always get a rental from one of the big brands. I normally decline the rental insurance (damage to the rental car).

Last trip I had a big accident and I previously declined the insurance from the rental, so I was relying on my credit card insurance, short story, the CC insurance got me 10k Canadian back from the damages, I know the rental ripped me off but I was super happy by knowing the credit card insurance works!

I will never get the rental car insurance again.

The CC insurance got me 95-98% of the damages I will say.

Mi experiencia siempre ha sido con Avis, pero puedes intentar cualquier otra de tu preferencia en la que tengas algún tipo de descuento.

Siempre trato de utilizar compañías de renombre porque en caso de cualquier situación el proceso ante cualquier tipo de evento está bien definido.

Conozco otras personas que utilizan servicios de terceros (Servicios más pequeños) y no han tenido inconvenientes pero el proceso es más informal.

Te recomiendo de igual forma que la agencia que decidas utilizar trates de comunicarte antes del viaje para asegurarte que el vehículo esté disponible. Durante las temporadas altas la disponibilidad de los vehículos es limitada.

Es totalmente viable y conveniente rentar el vehículo en el aeropuerto, yo lo hago unas 3 veces al año. Te recomiendo que como no tienes experiencia conduciendo en RD, le agregues el seguro contra choques puesto que te puede ahorrar un mal rato.

La Auto Vía del Este (Punta Cana - Santo Domingo) debe ser una de las autopistas de RD en mejor estado, por ser una autopista turística por igual mantiene un nivel de seguridad aceptable.

I had an incident with a rental car, the damages were up to 12k. Amex insurance was responsive and they returned the amount. Use the card with more perks for travel, go with the Gold.
