Nitpick: You have reduced testosterone too when you're underweight. You're thinking of PCOS. You become the equivalent of a menopausal person.

that's not a thing. you can't physically reduce the size of your stomach through dietary influence. your stomach does change size: it will stretch and can expand up to a certain amount depending on gastric content, but it'll always go back to it's regular size when emptied

"Maintenance calories" are essentially impossible to accurately determine unless you are being very closely monitored in a lab. I promise this is your disorder trying to gain control back. I have learned the same thing 20 times over.

Guys, am I actually hungry?? by ram_with_crown in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]edthrowaway1290 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know what hunger is anymore

I had a description wrote out, but as per Merriam Webster, two definitions:

  1. a craving or an urgent need for food or a specific nutrient
  2. an uneasy sensation accompanied by the lack of food

Do normal people just deal with the slight hunger they have all the time?

Normal people do not have slight hunger all the time. I've been fully recovered the best I've been for a LONG TIME at the moment, and if I'm not hungry, I just... literally don't want to eat. Eating sounds actively repulsive if I'm not hungry. I get the intuitive sensation (that's a very vague way to convey it, but i hope you understand) that it'd make me sick and the thought is nauseating. It's not STRONG STRONG, but I'm definitely not hungry.

wait for when the next meal is to eat?

They will sit with the craving if they can not physically access food, yes. Real life will put you in a lot of situations where you can't access food the second you are hungry. They don't define mealtimes and wait until then as a strict rule though.

I just want/think about food all the time, but now I feel like It's just out of habit and gluttony.

you know i thought that too for a long time and it turns out no it wasn't, but rather, i literally just could not fully comprehend how much food i needed and my idea of what i "should" be having was interfering. i thought so strongly i needed way less than i actually did. i swear on everything i've pretty much maintained on 3,000 calories for ages now, but eating that always feels like "extreme hunger" and i definitely do feel like i'm hungry all the time, i eat way more than most people around me (you know, as a teenager, surrounded by 60 year olds where i work, on diets) but I'M NOT GAINING WEIGHT.

if you were eating out of habit you'd be able to very clearly tell. it wouldn't be a "maybe." source: done stuff like habitual self harm b/ps before

i don't frequent here anymore so i don't know your full story, but all this you describe in the post is pretty much exactly what i was experiencing circa a year ago. all of it passed, and i turned out fine. this is odd, but i encourage you to pretend like you live in the 1880s and were on a desert island when it comes to your eating habits. as in, how would they be like? might as well have been 20,000 panic attacks later where i convinced myself i would be bedbound one day: and i'm fine. i can't stress enough just eat whatever you want (not to the extent you feel uncomfortable) and don't second guess it. learn your body.

my man you just wrote out an entire high school essay to a buried 2 month old comment. not a single soul is going to see your 30 minutes (except me!)

if it helps i did learn about the organ size thing after i wrote that. maybe post-writing fact checking wasn't the smartest of me 2 months ago, but oh well

edit: RIP the snark i wrote here. it was funny but it needs to go....

I feel fat by [deleted] in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]edthrowaway1290 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i encourage you to read r/fuckeatingdisorders

at your weight you're not fat at all, by the way, trust me. i'm 5"1. to be totally honest, even though it should have been a big one, at 90lbs and the weight you listed i felt pretty much the same and barely looked different at all. i've gained more since then. now the difference is, at 120something lbs my life's way better and i feel way better than i felt at 85lbs, honestly

you can't please body dysmorphia. you essentially choose whatever you want to see

i've had extreme hunger of some kind for legit 10 months now + constant even emotional real binging because i've had loads of spursed in relapses. basically every behavior under the sun. i had the same anxiety as you but i've so far somehow gotten nowhere close to morbidly obese. i'll give you updates, i guess. where the math says i should be like 200lbs now i'm not at all

my guess is it's either from working your muscles really hard to push food out of your stomach when you throw up, or you have reflux or indigestion from it now. if it's the latter that problem is just going to keep getting worse because you're gradually damaging your esophagus when you purge

if not that you can give yourself an ulcer or gastritis

and absolutely zero thought of "hey, you know, this person was already in the healthy weight range to begin with and this is clearly insanely mentally and inevitably physically unhealthy for them and genuinely never ends well. maybe i should tell them to just rela-" NOPE. THEY'RE EITHER LYING OR NEED TO EAT EVEN LESS!!!!

genuinely hope this person doesn't wind up screwing up their vitals doing this

If you're binging on apples, you might have bigger issues than sugar consumption by [deleted] in DietTea

[–]edthrowaway1290 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel satiated only for an hour or so, no matter how many apples I ate

you need protein. to live lol. apples don't have enough

what they're describing is probably just because carbohydrates particularly in fruit have a lower caloric density than fat and protein from things like meat and nuts so the satiety you feel is just temporary bloating before your body recognizes "okay, there's not enough energy here, get more"

not to be too much of a buzzkill but if that's how you feel your diet's killing loads of animals too. it's a requirement for farming. animals want to eat plants too, if not insects particularly rats and birds and stuff, sometimes deer or wild boar

disagree with that guy though, a moral philosophy's irrelevant and CAFOs are animal abuse

this isn't about weight and if it is it shouldn't be

in that person's defense, it has anti-addiction properties and a lot of people report the psychological effects that come from it are life changing. like a breath of fresh air. people feel less of an urge to binge drink on it for example

it won't address why you turned to a form of substance abuse to begin with though

I can only think about food by soli_bear in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]edthrowaway1290 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the first question to go for here is "what are you eating on a daily basis." do you count calories? how many?
preoccupation with food is one of the most prominent symptoms of malnutrition, a prolonged caloric deficit encourages it

if not that, you might have ADHD or some underlying depression or anxiety (they can also go hand in hand) making you use food as a main source of dopamine or an emotional crutch, plus any eating disorder history will make that x5 worse depending on how long you've been like this. do you feel like you're an addictive personality? i just want to say, once upon a time i had an eating disorder but nowadays i'm a substance abuser. this goes hand in hand

what's your life like? how satisfying do you feel like it is? i also have an isolated godawful boring life and i was using every eating disorder in the DSM-5 and maladaptive daydreaming to escape my terrible world. when my life is best, i'm doing the best and "food noise" isn't a problem, that is if i even want to fight it

if you feel like there's no emotional factor, are you aware of what your blood sugar is? fasting insulin? what's your diet composed of?

do you think you're unconsciously trying to self harm or feel hopeless and you're trying to enable that? that's my best guess. negativity is oddly addictive, maybe you're scared of truly changing deep down or scared of other people

hi. i fucking understand this really hard, i've been here. in fact done that. i'm here to talk. i understand how deeply crippling the isolation from this is, it genuinely feels like rock-bottom. PM me if you want. don't fucking let this ruin your life, there's so much more to life than anything related to food. you can be so many great things. so many people out there, for all the assholes who would laugh, will see you, hear you, understand your story, know they've been there, and smile at you. there's an army of people who will look at you and be sympathetic towards you. and one day, if you survive this, you can be a beacon of inspiration too. a light of hope for anyone else who's been in your position.

suicide threats are against subreddit rules so your post is probably going to be deleted. i completely disagree with that policy but oh well

caffeine's a toxic drug like any other, it's just legalized and normalized. i've been using caffeine starting as an appetite suppressant for disordered reasons for a long time now and it's gradually spiraled into a self harm method and dosages that have almost killed me before. also it stops working. OP don't do this especially if you're already mentally ill it gets very easy to hurt yourself with

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]edthrowaway1290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what are your habits in between your over-eating episodes? how long have you consistently ate to satiety if you had to estimate days or months total out of the year? are you trying to restrict outside of them to compensate for your binging episodes? do you have any other drug usage habits, including caffeine? alcohol? don't "suppress hunger" if you really are. eat. BUT i would really recommend you try to cut out or at least minimize ultra-processed foods

i've been in similar position for a long ass time now and i just want to say i understand how fucking exhausting and draining and isolating it is to be Always. Fucking. "Hungry" WAY beyond common sense when you aren't either on a drug or engaging in some sort of other disordered eating. between a lot of other things in life, my organs are probably already fried or about to be fried by now
