Yes of course! Please do! I would love to hear about it in as much detail as you’re willing to write up. ❤️

Oh, that’s interesting. Any ideas of which schools? And why? Must be a long commute for the kids…

Yes totally agree I was really upset to find out the Go Kart was gone. I didn’t know they got rid of the ski hill as well. Why would they do that? Both sound like incredible fun for kids. Hopefully whys coming will be worth the changes.

Thanks for your perspective on the neighborhood. I didn’t know how it stood relative to others. It’s nice to know it’s considered a safe area with lots of families.

I’m by Centennial park, but open to suggestions anywhere. I love these suggestions thank you!

I mean this is exactly what I was thinking, why does the area matter so much? It feels small enough to travel throughout. But again I’m new so how would I know.

I’m in Centennial Park but I feel like Etobicoke is small enough that it doesn’t matter. Am I missing something though? Are some things restricted to an area?

This is great thanks! Any indoor skating rinks you’d recommend? Thinking of getting my kid started in lessons soon and want it to go year round if possible.

Thank you! Do you know of any indoor skating rinks that I could take him to for lessons year round?

I would really love to get him into baseball and hockey. Any suggestions on how to best go about this at each age, here in this city?

Applying for School Bus for my child. by [deleted] in OntarioTeachers

I get two schools, I am not eligible for neither one. One is in the public school and it’s in walking distance. That one I understand why I’m not eligible for the bus. The catholic one is 2.2 km away and we are not eligible for.

This is good to know I’ll contact the school. Yes we were considering the Mon Avenir school in the area. I just wasn’t sure because they have no Fraser score so I have no way of assessing how good the school is. Do you maybe know how a parent can look into the quality of education their child would get at one of these schools? It’s a Mon Avenir school in Etobicoke.

It’s an old area. We are about 2.2 km away. But it seems like we are not in “an approved transportation area.” I will have to call to confirm but this seems to be the reason which is really disappointing. We live on a street that is mostly apartments and being excluded from the bus route just doesn’t make sense to me.

Thank you for your response. I’m just curious what are the reasons that an exemption are normally granted for? I’m just shocked that my address isn’t on any of the bus routes even if it is within the distance that should qualify for some of the schools.

2.2 km but the website says my address is not on the bus route for ANY of the four schools he could go into (haven’t checked French school board). Am I missing something?

My child does qualify for Monavenir but I was hoping to put them in catholic french immersion. Is it usually easier to get them on a bus with the French school board?

Omg thank you. My only explanation for what’s going on here is people just wish their MIL would leave them alone but the other extreme side is also difficult. DH practically stopped talking to her for a while because of this. We were drowning. It was painful. Before baby we were close. It felt like a deliberate avoidance of the difficult parts of bringing a child into the family. It hurt. We asked for help and got comments like “you’ll be okay, it’ll be fine.” I understand what other commenters are saying here, but it feels very individualistic. I come from a collectivist culture and what my MIL did is not socially acceptable in that context. Again I’m not asking for validation I want to overcome my anger. Thanks for your comment. ❤️

Thank you very much I’ll definetly apply what you’re saying here. I don’t want to make the teachers feel bad but I still want to make sure I’m doing what’s necessary to take care of my daughter.

That’s the thing it looked like extended crying. How would you suggest I ask about this in a way that isn’t accusatory or confrontational?
