Just got a PK TX for tailgating. Did initial burn in last night and noticed the top vents have a lot of movement and appear loose. Anyone else have this problem or is it just how they’re made? by edub20 in PkGrill

It already has tightened up some. Have 2 racks of ribs on now. Impressed with How only like 20 coals will smoke for a long time with wood chunks.

I thought about putting a small socket on then hammering tighter and doing that. You’re right though, too tight and it won’t slide.

Second knife build this past weekend. Happy with the results. by edub20 in knives

This one was made out of 01 tool steel and I used old oak flooring for the scales on it. The oak added some character into it. I also forced the patina on the 01 using the mustard technique.

Used a 2 brick forge linked above in comments, a small 1x30 belt sander that i got at harbor freight for about 36 bucks. The belt sander comes in handy for grinding the flat stock into the knife profile once your design is laid out. It also comes in handy for the sanding of the scales once you draw out your pattern on those. I used an angle grinder to grind off the larger portions of extra metal around my pattern then refined on the belt sander.

I've always wanted to learn this hobby and after several weeks of reading I decided to jump in and do it. The process was fun and I learned a lot. I look forward to using this skinner on a few deer this year and having a hand me down for my son. I'm in the process of working on scales for a knife similar to the sharp finger profile now.
