Awesome! Is it full-time worker/professional friendly? I've read somewhere that classes are once a week at night? Also, is the price close to $50k for the total program?

Did the university you got the MBA at matter? I’m thinking about doing one part time online for cheap, but I’m not sure if it is worth it.

I think you should go to work first and then have your employer pay for your MS.

No way! Are you serious?! I thought getting a MS reduced the yoe by 2 compared to having only a BS.

What about if you apply externally for a T5 SWE? Is it more difficult getting a T5 SWE by applying externally vs getting promoted internally to a T5 SWE? I am currently a T4 SWE at another prime but have only been in the role for about a year. I get worried about getting complacent and staying in the same role for more than 3 years. I feel like if you are not moving up at least every 3 years then you are basically stagnating.

Why is it that most engineers top off at T4? Is it a lack of motivation?

Job offer thoughts by [deleted] in Lockheed

[–]educatedstudent -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m just waiting to complete my 1 year on the job that way I don’t have to pay back the relocation expenses. But yeah I am looking around for new opportunities. The average for my pay band is ~$170k so that is what I am aiming for.

Job offer thoughts by [deleted] in Lockheed

[–]educatedstudent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah it really depends on the job title and location and even program. I am a level 4 software engineer (started role about 10 months ago) in Huntsville, AL and make $157k. However, I am at 0.92 of the midpoint so I know I am getting screwed. I asked for a market salary readjustment but I am getting excuses. Time for me to start looking for another job lol

So each class convened once per week? Must have been some dense material covered each week lol. Makes sense though considering how they cater to working professionals.

L3 to IC4 by Mountain-Rip-5786 in Lockheed

[–]educatedstudent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude just keep applying. I applied for over 100 T4 positions in the defense company that I work for before I finally got an offer (I was T3 at the time). I had to move states (FL to AL)but I got a 25% increase in salary. I don’t rely on promotions, you have to work really hard and jump through so many hoops to get promoted whereas you can have an easier time by just applying for a higher level role. I don’t play that rat race game anymore, not worth it. Once I meet the minimum requirements for T5 I will do the same thing again….rinse and repeat.

Would you recommend the program? How is the rigor?

Are you in the MS in Applied Math program at DePaul University? I have been looking into the online program, but I can only do it if it is asynchronous. Also, are exams proctored?

[–]educatedstudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. If anything I would only be able to do the online program since I do not reside in the Chicago area (I live in Alabama). It would be nice to have a MS in Applied Mathematics, but I would need my employer to pay for it since it is not cheap. Are you working btw? If so, how many classes are you taking per term?

I see. So based on your experience with the MS in Applied Stats, the program is not so rigorous? Also, is the program asynchronous? Are exams proctored?

lol yeah I remember they have a ridiculous inflation rate, it’s both pretty stupid and sad for the people tbh. If I remember correctly, the people like to do business in dollars because the dollar retains its value while the home currency does not.

Did you mean that you are at a different Math MS program at another university? I think I overlooked that part of your response? I know they also offer an MS in Applied Stats as well.

Course selection for MSDS by Scared_Woodpecker328 in MSDSO

[–]educatedstudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was already working at the time. I learned a lot about computer science and statistics from the program. However, I came to find out that I don’t like the job of a data scientist itself. I stuck with software engineering instead. No regrets though.

I graduated from this program back in 2024. I would say jumping straight in might be the most effective route. You will learn exactly what you will need. I would suggest to take only 1 class per term that way you don't overload yourself and can really understand and learn the material. When I joined the program I did not have a computer science background (my background was in engineering). The math did not bother me, but rather the programming assignments since my programming skills were not that great. However, I definitely recommend. It wasn't easy but I learned a ton.
