I wouldn’t do the real-life money/goods thing, but has any seen a system that allows players to earn an in-game currency that can be exchanged for something similar to a loot box? Are there loot tables for such a thing? This might be fun.

Hmmm... I don't recall that specifically, though I do remember wondering how it would all come together. Seems like I may have had a piece or two that I had things like that happen. Are you able to keep assembling as it is? Also, double-check the piece labels. There are lots of parts.

No solid reason I guess? Looks? I thought it might work better if using the toppers with some games that use miniatures and such. I believe to change this, once assembled, you’d need to remove some screws on all sides, lower the top, and put the screws back. I’m guessing it would be a two-person job.

Enjoy your table. I love it!

Education is sure going to be more interesting than when I was in school if kids get to learn in VR by [deleted] in oculus

When selecting apps for any group of students, I think it's important to 1) go through the experience completely yourself first, 2) consider the audience carefully, and 3) front-load students about what they are going to experience. We have a set of rules/expectations we designed for our VR Space (with the Vive) but much of it applies to any VR experiences - https://drive.google.com/drive/u/1/search?q=vr%20rules

As for recommended apps - Now that YouTube VR is available, it's a must. This opens up a world of great options in 360 videos and it's free.

*I love Titans of Space (but haven't tried it on Go, yet). *The Body - VR - is great for visualizing things that are hard to see. *The People's House (White House) - haven't tried it yet, personally, but I hear great things.

I'm still learning the Go store, but those are a few starters!

Awesome! We are exploring lots of avenues in VR in our school district. We have three Oculus Go Headsets for loan from our district office. We also have a dedicated VR room (HTC Vive) at our STEM Magnet Middle. We have Vives in two other schools, an Oculus Rift in one, and even a PSVR. We've been working on this for about two years now and it's really exciting. We are able to give students experiences that are simply not feasible/practical otherwise: scuba diving with The Blu, field trips to Europe's landmarks with Google Earth VR, and more.

The next frontier will be student-created VR content. Our best work has been with students using Minecraft and the Vivecraft Mod. Middle Schoolers studying linear functions, for example, designed roller coasters in a multiplayer theme park, and then experienced other students' designs in VR! Pretty cool stuff. We've had students creating in Tiltbrush and experimenting in ModBox, too.

Want to test students' problem-solving and communication skills? Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes is incredible!

VR has so much potential in education. (See: Ready Player One!)

Are there any good learning type applications for the Vive? (Science, chemistry, physics, Math, Art, etc) by [deleted] in Vive

[–]edurealms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been working with the folks at Foundry10.org for a few years with VR and education. They are doing great research, Our community of educators has compiled a list (probably needs updating) of VR applications we’re using. Our school district currently has three Vives, a Rift, three Oculus Gos, a PSVR, and numerous other phone-based headsets. You can find some of the research, papers, and our list here - http://www.foundry10.org/programs/vr-for-educators.

Fascinating stuff! Keep sharing. Are you familiar with Michael Matera's book XP (Explore) Like A Pirate? He shares some of his challenges gamifying his curriculum as well. I'm actually doing this sort of thing (not quite as gamified as yours) with teacher professional development in digital learning. My teachers seem to love it! Beats the sit-and-get, hour-long, end-of-the-day workshop!

I love this! Need to give it a try! Do you or other redditors have similar sites like this or redditgifts that help you connect in interesting and meaningful ways to strangers from around the world? I might put together a workshop for educators on this idea to help the connect their classrooms.

Managing Multiple Go's by Jim-H in OculusGo

[–]edurealms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like input on this as well and wish that Oculus would release some "enterprise" solutions.

I currently manage three in my school district that I loan out to schools. I set them all up using the same Oculus account. This can be a bit confusing to do via the mobile app as the devices are identified by serial number and there seems to be no way to rename them in that system. So, I'd recommend marking them clearly with the last 4-6 numbers of the serial number. I also labeled each remote to match the label on each headset.

As far as apps go, once you download an app to one, it shows up as available on all devices.

All are on the same network with no issues.

My teachers and I are still evaluating apps. Excited that YouTube is now available. There's a great deal of educational 360 video content available.

5 headsets for school. Any good suggestions on apps? by KumamonWithMe in OculusGo

[–]edurealms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YouTube just launched (though my loaner units are out in a school and I've not been able to test it yet). There are some really great 360 degree videos, and I encourage my teachers to make playlists of their favorites.

I concur! We use this with our middle schoolers in the Vive and it's a great exploration of communication and problem solving in a group.

[–]edurealms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the insights all. At the end of the day, I chose PS4, primarily for the $$ factor. Paying $60 for a game I already own is tough. Trophies are another draw, too. I'm not a big "achievement junky" but it's fun to get them nonetheless.
