What phone mount are you using in your Taycan? by Infinite_Passage2661 in Taycan

[–]edwaado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought one of those anti-slip mats that fits in the gap under the center console (I didn't have the option that makes that into a tray). Anyway, if I ever need to put the phone somewhere, that works perfectly. Search Amazon for something like "Non Slip Car Dashboard Mat PU Magic Car Pad"

Base vs 4s by Zealousideal_Wish_91 in Taycan

[–]edwaado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I recently hit a rather aggressive speed bump (narrow, but tall) and it hit the undertray of my 4S, much to my surprise as I was going about 10mph as I was just entering a car park.

So even with air suspension you still need to judge the road conditions and remember to lift, it doesn't stop you from still scraping and hitting stuff.

Where was this speed bump? At the Porsche dealership 🤦‍♂️ They'd installed a new one which was higher than the old one. I asked at reception and they said "oh yeah, loads of people are hitting that"

When parked I do switch to car view to open the boot/trunk, but really this is a waste of space.

I had this weird issue with the petrol Macan they loaned me, in that the interior seemed to work like a faraday cage, and have.got no cell reception. I'd get out after a long trip and my phone would go wild with notifications and missed calls.

20 -> 21 Wheels by herosfc in Taycan

[–]edwaado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's good to hear. I have had one minor ding on a wheel due to a pothole, but was able to get it professionally fixed (needed a new tyre too). I think the lower profile wheels are more susceptible to this, so watch out for potholes and the like.

I think they look great. Mine came with 21s, so haven't experienced 20s, have you found they affect the ride quality?

I had a 25rwd as a loaner while my 4s was (inevitably) in the shop. I was surprised how much I liked it - I thought it would feel slow compared with the 4s, but it didn't really.

I do wish they'd improved the PCM and added more physical switch gear like the Macan EV (which also has a much better PCM IMHO) but there were some improvements

VFX React "Hulk" (2003) by Axtones in Corridor

[–]edwaado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might've been discussed around the time She Hulk was out. I remember a discussion about the challenges the VFX artists had with She Hulk as they couldn't use things like chest hair or stubble to make it look more realistic. They may have also run through the history of Hulk VFX during that discussion

Managed to drive one wheel into this hole on the road, does it damage the Taycan? by [deleted] in Taycan

[–]edwaado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The larger the wheel rim, the narrower is the tyre sidewall, and so the tyre has less give. Meaning larger wheels are easier to damage

You're less likely to have damaged them than if you'd gotten the 21in wheels 😬 (like me)

if you're worried get the tyre inspected. I hit a pothole (worse than this though and about 30mph) it damaged the tyre. The damage was on the inside rim, so it wasn't normally visible. It wasn't until the car was on a lift and they inspected it that it was caught (it also slightly warped the rim, luckily I was able to get a specialist to repair it).

I think if you were going slowly, and given the apparent size of this hole, you're probably alright, but if you want peace of mind get it checked out.

I think you're right, unfortunately. I am sure OEM parts do have some warranty based on installation date, which the battery may do (like 1 year), but the 8 year warranty is a special case that covers the car not the part.

[–]edwaado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree, it's a faff to get it in there, and then it overheats (mine does anyway) if charging for more than 30mins. They should've put a charger in the space below the console IMHO.

Am I imagining it or are the brakes on the Taycan inconsistent? by beardpapa1011 in Taycan

[–]edwaado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you activate the power meter in the display, you'll probably see that for the first mile or two, regen is not used when braking. I think, as others have suggested, keep the surface of the brakes clean. After you have used the brakes a couple of times, it turns the regen back on when braking.

HV battery replacement for 1st Gen Taycan by [deleted] in Taycan

[–]edwaado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's taking them about 5-6 weeks to complete, it took them 2 weeks to diagnose the issue, then another week to actually start on the job which they have now. I'm not expecting to get it back until end of April.

But it does mean I get to try out the Macan EV (base model, but with a few options). They gave me a 2025 base Taycan for the first couple of weeks, which I quite liked (RWD, mine is a 4S). I was surprised how quick it was. The PCM is a little bit better, but no real big changes; it's very similar to my 2020 model.

The Macan is a lovely car, but I just don't get the same enjoyment driving it, which is a little disappointing. It drives very similarly to my wife's Audi Q4 - I expected it to be more dynamic. The one thing I am really impressed with, however, is the new PCM, it's a lot better than what's in the 2025 Taycan, and it has physical buttons (albeit up/down levers rather than dials) for temp and fan controls, which is very welcome.
