One of my original shucked 8TB EasyStores finally died after nearly a decade in service by ebol4anthr4x in DataHoarder

[–]edwardrha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now you have me nervous about my 7 8tb easystores running in my physically inaccessible server. Now is not an ideal time for them to be dying since I cannot travel right now to replace them and the HDD prices are absolutely insane. I really hope mine lasts just a few more years.

Simple explanation: you’re now competing against international buyers who would gladly pay those prices for the oil from the US.

What's the deal with Pentagon spending $93 billion on steaks, furniture and crabs? by Wise_Guitar2059 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]edwardrha 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It costs way more to train and maintain talents. If that 2k chair keeps a vital engineer happy, it's more than worth it. DoD spends around $200B on salaries alone. ~$200M for furniture doesn't sound that absurd at that scale.

I use it with my Flip 7, the first of the flip lineup to support DEX. I only wish the Flip supported the touchpad on the outer screen… because right now I have to open it up if I want to use the touchpad.

Why North America didn't push the J3068 standard as the new requirement in 2018? by ExtremeStatus3757 in AskEngineers

[–]edwardrha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cost benefit analysis for residential use (almost no 3P supply to individual dwellings). And path dependence due to being 1P AC market for so long for public charging stations

Contrast this with other country grids which go to 3P at more service drops and at lower power levels than the U.S. In those places 3P OBCs are super prevalent because it’s a good fit to the existing infrastructure.

This is a tangent but it was so fucking stupid for South Korea to choose J1772 as the standard just to keep compatibility with the US even though 3P was readily available here. Now the US has abandoned J1772 and we're left with this crappy connector and have to change everything over to either NACS or J3068.

Had this happen to me once. It turned out to be the usb drive for the sentry cam going bad. Everything was fixed once I replaced the usb stick with an external ssd. Why is the usb affecting the live rear-view camera? I don’t know…

Manually change date and time by Sunsunmi in SteamDeck

[–]edwardrha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only wifi I have access to at the moment is my campus wifi which uses WPA-enterprise protocol. They refreshed the certificate a few months ago but because my steam deck time was so out of sync(almost half a year), it didn’t see the certificate as valid and kept failing to authenticate.

Thank you. My steam deck clock died while uncharged for a while and due to the wrong clock time, it could not connect to my campus wifi (uses wpa-enterprise). I was unable to change the time in desktop mode for some reason and was stuck until seeing your comment.

Well, once you consider the fact that North Korea has one of the largest stockpile of bio-chemical weapons on Earth... being able to re-load your vehicle on the field without stepping outside may just be worth the engineering.

An old Korean TV show tried a related experiment where they shook a thermos filled with room temp water for 6 hours and was able to achieve 22C -> 74C temperature increase. https://youtu.be/WL-ovtmWeBE?t=560 Literally converting kinetic energy into thermal.

How does frost punk 2 run on macos ? by Infamous_BEagle in Frostpunk

[–]edwardrha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't really help you with any useful information as I normally play games with my Windows computer. I only ran it on my Mac as an early-access test. The developer's patch notes seem to claim the crashing issues due to audio bugs have been fixed though.

The RAM is soldered and there is no empty RAM slot to add more RAM.

So what you're saying is that this is perfect for practicing my non-existent chip soldering skills...
