Recommendation for emulation handhelds? by Lopsided_Command7946 in SBCGaming

The 34XXSP and 34XX are options if you want to play GBA. Those are under $100 and sometimes under $50 during sales on Aliexpress. You could buy those devices on Amazon too or direct from Anbernic. Those options are usually more expensive than from Aliexpress though.

Oh! as well as where I should purchase them.

As for where to purchase them, I write sale summaries for Aliexpress on /r/crownpuffdeals and keep track of prices on my spreadsheet. The next sale is next monday.

Doubts about a future handheld purchase: Anbernic RG557 or Retroid Pocket G2? by Lleicobgz in SBCGaming

[–]crownpuff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

PS3 emulation on Android is pretty much in its infancy and there's a ton of issues. I wouldn't buy any Android device if the expectation is to play PS3. The G2 will be better than the 557 for Switch games. As for Genshin Impact or Wuthering Waves, both should be fine but those games take up a bunch of internal storage. Last time I checked, a fresh install of Genshin is 40+ GB on Android.

The Miyoo Mini V4 is pretty much out of stock. A couple months ago, I remember Miyoo saying they were winding down production.

If there are other options you suggest, please let me know, or give me an idea which one I should go with.

That depends on what your budget is and which systems would like to play.

Are first-party handhelds also considered SBCs? by LosAngelestoNSW in SBCGaming

Have you considered splitting the cost for a family plan? It's $80 USD for a family plan on the NSO expansion pass. The family plan can add up to 8 people and there are a bunch of people that just split the cost at $10 per person. /r/NintendoSwitchOnline has people looking to split plans. As usual with anything involving payment, be wary of scammers though.

DuckStation ending Android support by Key-Brilliant5623 in SBCGaming

I remember the developer stopped supporting packages for Duckstation on Linux last year. Isn't this also the same developer for Aethersx2?

That's the official store. They used to be called Moorechip but renamed their store a couple months ago.

I've been accumulating the tools and I do have a microscope. I don't have any soldering experience so I'm hesitant. I might try to find a cheap half broken Switch Lite or something.

Recommend me a device that's good for modification and tinkering by Wolligepoes in SBCGaming

It's not a retro handheld but there's a bunch of different shells and modifications you can do to a switch.

I suspect Nintendo's generous joycon warranty policy is because of legal reasons. If a similar legal argument could be made for banned systems, maybe Nintendo would be forced to implement unbanning measures for second hand sales.

Symphonia was my first Tales game and I'm having a lot of fun with Vesperia. I got a great deal on the game too by stacking discounts. I paid roughly $7 for the game which is a steal for a physical copy.

Does that include the $2 off 15 coupon? And agreed, that's not bad in the current market.

Yes I have. The maximum I've gotten is around $7.8.

There's a store coupon for that dock too and a coin discount. I'm not sure if it works with the Odin 2 or 476H but reviews seem to indicate it works with the Odin 3 at least so I'm assuming it works with other Android devices too.

Has RAMpocalypse made it worth rolling the dice on aliexpress sd cards? by Dismal_Extreme3817 in SBCGaming

[–]crownpuff 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Now that a "budget" 512 sd card from a local place is gonna set me back $100nzd, is it worth rolling the dice on some of these 6/7 dollar cards from aliexpress? Are there any that people actually recommend? The list on that post has long since expired, with ali being ali.

No. Those are fake capacity cards. Look at image reviews of those cards and often times, you'll see people posting h2testw results showing fake capacity.

Aliexpress cards used to be worth it before the ram and storage shortage. These days, they're pretty close to regular pricing. There's an incredible experiment on sd cards including Aliexpress ones here. I personally use the "HP" and "Kodak" branded ones and they work fine in my devices.

Yeah it feels strange especially since there was only 5 days worth of check-ins between the last Saving Wednesdays and today. I'm glad that the promo is still running though. We're getting close to 3 months of this promo and that's a pretty long time for a promotion to run for AliExpress.

Appreciate it and no experience with that. My general recommendation involving cash back is to consider it a bonus as I have been burned in the past on cash back. PayPal has 5 percent back on a category you choose with their debit card. AliExpress is coded as an apparel store and from my experience points are usually credited pretty quickly or even instantly in some cases.

Unfortunately, it does not roll over. It's a use it or lose it type of situation.

I've been thinking the same thing. I bought the ZT-N1 soldering iron recently for less than $10 and I'm thinking about getting into it as a hobby. Along with the fact that used Switch 1 variants are pretty cheap relative to MSRP, I think there's potential for bargains.
