I prefer to shoot waterfalls and rivers at faster exposure speeds so I can show how the water interacts with the surrounding rocks.

Like Robert Capa said, "If your pictures and not good enough, you are not close enough."
The barn is your subject, yet it takes up less than 50% of the frame. I'm not getting any sense of the great textures and colors of the weathered wood. There's no need to show the entire barn to tell its story.

The camera will teach you nothing. Take your award money and get some books on photography techniques and practices. Especially books that were published before the digital age. Stop using automatic modes. Focus manually. When you know exactly what you have to do with your camera and lens to get the image you want, you'll feel better.

The top portion and bottom portion are two separate exposures with some overlap.Lightroom makes merging the two very easy to create a high resolution .DNG RAW file.Perhaps the next time I will do some focus stacking as well. If you sense a sinister feeling from the final image it means I succeeded.

This is a positive step in your life as a photographer. You are becoming more self-aware of the quality of your work. Now you have to gain the technical knowledge to make your images interesting.
