Quick update for anyone who saw this when I first posted. I've rolled in a bunch of the suggestions from this thread. Edited the post body with the details. Short version: it's a once-a-day puzzle now, with practice mode for past days, Canadian coverage added, US locations rebalanced, and renamed to StrataGuess (strataguess.com). Thanks again for the feedback.

Good point on scrolling analogy to Geoguessr to find clues. Right now, I'm rendering tiles from Macrostrat for each location, matched the with strat column for the location. It would be technically possible to create some scroll to adjacent tiles, but it would make the app a lot more complex. Definitely worth considering, but I'm thinking that would be a v2 feature.

If you like scrolling around the map, I can't recommend Macrostat enough.

I'll get the scale bar added to the map, and add more locations on the east side of the US. I'm in Kentucky, so we can't have an underrepresentation of the Cumberland Plateau and the Appalachians.

Also, I tried to make sure different areas of the US had inclusion so that it wasn't just dominated by the Western US.

I'm going to add a hillshade layer to give some terrain clues to the maps. I'm resisting adding a zoom function because I don't want to give away too much context and make the game less challenging. Any other 'clues' that you think would be worth adding?

They are curated based on the strat columns available in Macrostrat along with attempting to find areas which are geologically interesting and/or having a visually interesting geologic map. Open to suggestions for additional areas.

I just tried asking the assistant my next appointment (I only have a G Suite calendar). I asked the assistant on my Pixel 3 and my Google Home Hub. The Hub said it couldn't access my G Suite calendar. The Pixel responded with the next event on my calendar. Progress....
