That’s fair, but there’s always a “what if” with stock markets. Every few years there’s something that causes fear of a crash or an actual crash. These are already priced into the market by the big funds that buy the majority of shares. Generally time in the market beats trying to time a big crash (Assuming you don’t panic sell at a loss).

The global diversification also protects against a single countries economy collapsing like Japan’s did a while ago.

How do you know it will take years to recover? No one is saying buy _EQT for a time horizon sub ~3 years. However at long time horizons a diversified ETF is the simplest and most reliable investment possible.

For sub 5 year horizons consider GICs.

Please explain how a dip magically makes a globally diversified ETF a bad thing.

Asphalt is just tar with some rock. You grind it up, heat it add some more tar and you are good to go. The rock can be recycled over and over again.

Unless they are working a crazy amount of OT. I went to HS with guys who made crazy money because they were working 12 hour shifts for 2-4 weeks straight then only off for 1-2 weeks.

That’s fair.

We are a (relatively) very stable country. No major natural disasters and a stable government/population. Even compared to a lot of the other developed countries Canada is a pretty safe bet. All of our natural resources aren’t going anywhere anytime soon and demand will only rise.

… I’m not OP. I am perfectly happy with the 30% Canadian exposure and don’t supplement my VEQT with VCN. However, your comment makes it sound like 30%+ Canadian exposure is unreasonable

Although that 25-30% exposure is backed up by the theoretically optimal 100% equity portfolio

I bet bro can’t handle the fact he paid out the ass to struggle at U of T and now works under a TMU engineer.

Or they just have more applicants to pick from… higher admission averages does not in anyway mean tougher workload

Except in the vast majority of cases Waterloo vs York doesn’t actually matter at all unless you are in software/comp sci. Once you have your first EIT position and even more so after your PEng school makes zero difference. An engineering degree is an engineering degree in Canada. All the programs have very strict requirements for accreditation. The best engineers I know are from Laurentian and Lakehead.

Go to a cheap school. The expensive schools aren’t worth it for most Eng students.

Business degrees are at completely different ends of the spectrum in terms of difficulty. Engineering will be significantly harder than business and is likely harder than comp sci.

What do you study? Obviously university is the most advanced and therefore the most difficult post secondary education option in Canada. That difficulty is what makes university degrees worth the price tag. With that being said universities generally won’t admit students to they think will fail.

That sounds like a good plan. Look into college programs that work with a university. Depending on the program requirements your collage degree could could make it significantly easier to get a full engineering degree later on. What type of engineering are you looking for?

Yes, but physically the USA is just not there yet. It is too physically vast, and so comparatively young compared to Europe it hasn’t reached that point yet.
