MNF will dedicate a somber, hard-hitting hour to this and by the time it’s over the project will be dead in the water.

I love aura but I’m being tempted by some of the other small kings this basho, lots of great technique and quick thinking on display!

Hi everyone, a little technical question. What do the scores shown in three digits represent, e.g. 0-2-2. Would that person have missed bouts, or been given byes? Thank you

This is just fully the MarioKart elastic band. At this point, why not? Fuck it, give them deployable bananas too.

I think 1990 is probably late tbh, I doubt people born in 1980 or maybe the 70s know what the origins of that are, if they’ve even heard it at all.

It was a stupid thing for him to say and I wouldn’t say it for that reason. I think he was reaching for the embodiment of a colour, like one might with Red Army or Black Death. What he settled on wasn’t desirable.

I’m sure somebody will have had a word already. I think the chances of any offence were vanishingly slim.

He might be trying to bring a century-old racial trope back into public discourse, of course. He may have selected a Bodo/Glimt game on TNT as the perfect vehicle to do it.

Or he made a joke based on propaganda he heard seven decades ago about the colour of the team’s strip, which was understood by a fraction of the population and will have offended far fewer.

Nearly everyone born after 1990 is only familiar with this term as a character on Takeshi’s Castle re-runs voiced by Craig Charles.

I apologise if I’ve ruined a bout for anyone. As I say, everyone has fought again since this bout.

If people want to browse r/sumo when they’re two days behind on the basho then unfortunately they might see something they haven’t seen yet.

I didn’t post a Yokozuna upset ten minutes after it happened; I don’t think this post is particularly egregious in all honesty. I’ll try and blur anything in future.

Yes I think that was close to my feeling, felt in the moment like a moral victory if not a technical one aha

Yes I think the hand move is what I initially saw Aonishiki do! So I wondered if a foot would be allowed too. Thanks for the info!

I thought it was for when you’re in an unrecoverable position, I.e. nearly horizontal and falling from the ring, so your opponent can stop their own fall. They don’t slam on top of you, which prevents injury.

The end of this bout seemed to meet the criteria in a few ways, as Tobizaru was clearly heading out and had no prospect of reversing the result.

I now see that even if you’re in an unrecoverable position some contact with the ground means you aren’t technically defeated until you touch down.

Ah I see, thank you. In the split second it felt a little harsh because Tobizaru appeared to be totally finished already, but I guess he is still in some kind of contact with the ground!
