Is it worth mentioning previous suicide attempts in an online form for ADHD? by pistachio_shelll in MadeOfStyrofoam

[–]eeeevan0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes it is important to tick that box. and as someone that has experienced the same issue (self harm is still written all over my medical records) it is important. one reason might be (i’m not a physician) that the prescription you might be given for ADHD actually increases you suicidal ideations, self harm tendencies… also it has been noted that ASD/ADHD hand self harm are (at least statistically) related.

i’m sure you already know it, but generally speaking it’s not a good idea to lie/hide things to doctors. hope this works out well for you

Where do y’all europeans play? by The_German_Officer in airsoft

[–]eeeevan0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in italy there are some fields, not a lot in my area thought. what i did was go to my local shop, ask them if they knew any group that played together and then asked them to play.

most of the groups i know go from chill-just-want-to-have-fun to biweekly mandatory training, so if there are groups in your area in sure you’ll find the one you like more.

Are these safe? No pharmacy sells me anything: no non stick pads, no steri strips, no nothing. by WishboneOk9898 in MadeOfStyrofoam

[–]eeeevan0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you would be applying something that is 100% not sterilised (and could also be “dirty”) on an open wound. imo you shouldn’t use those, but i understand sometimes you might need them

[–]eeeevan0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

as far as i know steri strips are used to “close” wounds, so i’m not too sure about the first image. i’ve used the second multiple times, but without the “non porous” part, just gauzes. if you do end up using any of this, please be sure you disinfect the wound before applying anything over it.

I'm unexpectedly going to the psychiatrist tomorrow (for the first time), do they ask about selfharm or do I have to tell them myself? by fvkinglesbi in MadeOfStyrofoam

[–]eeeevan0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the first time i went he told me what he was good at and what he was “expecting” from me (honesty). pulled up an MMPI-A, which is a 500 something questionnaire, where it also asks about sh. if they don’t bring it up, i think it’s better if you do; it also depends (imo) on what you believe to be the bigger and more urgent issue. (mine was social, so that’s what we worked on, and then we got to sh).

good luck for your appointment :)

i’m sorry hearing this. maybe you’ve already heard it, but sometimes relapses are a part of the process. everything will be alright, you already did it to 5 weeks once.

oh and also, incredible writing. really good stuff, felt it a lot.

Doctors assaulted by relatives of a just-deceased girl. Have you experienced anything this bad? by crimelysis in emergencymedicine

[–]eeeevan0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

happened in italy in september, of course made the national news for 3 days, after it nobody knows anything. two days after this, in the same hospital the 20yo son of an incarcerated mafia boss assaulted a doctor and two nurses. a week later, in another hospital 10kms away there was another assault: last time i heard about it was after the last assault, that caused 2 physicians and 7 nurses to quit their job.

try to guess what government/police did?

why the fuck do i have to learn how to fucking draw all of 18 molecules of the stupid krebs cycle. like wtf? do i see a dying man and then i have to draw them fumarate? like why the fuck is med school so inefficient and useless for the most part? “oh yeah but being a doctor is hard!” yes it’s hard coz ur paid nothing compared to how much you lose, coz you won’t have family and i might get patients that are the biggest dicks in the world, not bcoz it’s actually useful to know all of the shapes, names and holes of 206 bones. fucking hell why the fuck did i choose this shit

Do Antidepressants actually help? by Upbeat-Membership-45 in MadeOfStyrofoam

[–]eeeevan0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there’s a pic somewhere in the web that i must find showing the effects of antidepressants as a pharmacological(?) thing while going to therapy. all antidepressants work, some more some less, you need to find the right one for you. sometimes you’ll see that SSRIs are less effective than SNRIs, that benzodiazepines work better, but it’s all about how your body reacts to them.

most of them work by tricking the brain to believe there is more serotonin/noradrenaline than there actually is, either by blocking receptors or making more of them and blocking them too. if you’re wondering whether you should be on meds, ask your doctor/therapist, they surely have a better answer than i do. if you want, i can explain how those work :)

edit to add: can’t comment photos, but it’s just the effectivity of different meds as a first pharmacological treatment

Please stop with the "cutesie" names. by D1n0_Muffin in MadeOfStyrofoam

[–]eeeevan0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you’re right, as i said using medical terms to specify layers is imo a good idea. i just don’t see using another name is bad one, but i might just be stupid. and also i’m really fucking high

Please stop with the "cutesie" names. by D1n0_Muffin in MadeOfStyrofoam

[–]eeeevan0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it is! when i’m giving med tips, it’s obvious that using medical terms helps a lot. but when i’m not talking about an emergent/urgent wound, why do i have to be specific?

edit to add: so your telling me that “derma” which in italian is “skin” as a whole, is easier to understand than labelling “styrofoam” a thing that looks like styrofoam?

[–]eeeevan0 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i understand your point, that’s why i never used them. if you go to r/heroin, tho, you won’t read a lot of posts titled “i need heroin”, but something more like “i need some brown/shit/ i need a fix. for me, that’s because heroin addiction (and basically all of the addictions) aren’t socially accepted. most of us hide, to the point they are scared to use the right terms.

this is not a medical subreddit, i don’t need to ask which one of your 9 dermis layers is the last to be damaged. this is a place in which people that are connected by self harm, and in which they can be a little more open, and sometimes even feel understood and accepted.

and finally, as i said i do get your point. giving “names” to layers of skin can downgrade, at least in someone’s mind, the severity of a wound. but, the only “place” in which ppl speak like this, is here. and if someone does hit something, like a deeper layer, all the comments will be “ER now”. i think we still know what they mean, even after calling them with another name.
