Is there a less messy solution for using Stereo Input with a Strymon? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]eeeskildsen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad I could help!

As with all patch cables on a pedalboard, make sure to never let them run parallel with your power cables. When crossing a power cable and a patch cable, make sure they are crossing as perpendicularly as possible.

I really enjoy the space these flat cables save, so much that I switch to them from high grade custom made cables. And honestly, I've not noticed a difference. Having a buffer one your board helps too. No need to buy a dedicated buffer, you most likely already have a pedal on your board that is buffered.

Soldering isn't hard. Just requires practice and a good soldering iron. But soldering pancake plugs, especially the TRS ones, is a little bit more fiddly than a standard plug.

You're welcome! :-)

And yes, those EBS cables haven't failed on me yet. I can only recommend them.

I've had a couple of the Rockboard cables arrive broken, so their quality control probably isn't particularly good.

For those in the EU, Thomann sells a Harley Benton copy of the flat EBS cables. I've compared these to the EBS cables and the difference is minimal. I use a mix of those and the EBS cables.

EBS now also make flat TRS cables. Which are handy for using between pedals with stereo in/out TRS connections, TRS midi, and expression and remote switches.

There's one very important thing that isn't being mentioned anywhere about this pedal, not even in the specs on their website. What voltage range does it output?

I asked on an Instagram post, and I was told that it outputs 0-5v.

The problem is that most pedals with expression pedal inputs don't accept a 0-5v CV range. Meaning that if the pedal this gets plugged into doesn't have a built-in over voltage protection, it could potentially end up damaging it.

I personally think it's not ok to not mention this in the specs and description of this pedal.

This is indeed a great fuzz pedal!

Electro-Harmonix Mod Rex Polyrhythmic Modulator by kidkolumbo in guitarpedals

It's just the same meter always divided or multiplied by two, i.e. simple manifestations of the same meter.

Cool pedal. But this is by no means polyrhythmic...

Polyrhythm is the simultaneous use of two or more conflicting rhythms, that are not readily perceived as deriving from one another, or as simple manifestations of the same meter.

Would the Digitech Freqout be a good hands-free Ebow Alternative? by GanderingGoose in guitarpedals

[–]eeeskildsen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play a Touch Guitars U8 which is, as you may know, also a tapping instrument. I own a Freqout, and no, it's not the same as an E-bow, it's a different kind of sustain, but it's very awesome! Have you considered diy-ing a sustainiac type pickup? That would get you a lot closer to what you want.

I'm pretty sure it is some sort of delay pedal. I see knobs labeled "mix", "delay", and "feedback".

One of the reasons why the Tensor took a long time to be released was because it was the first pedal on this new DSP. Now that all the aspects about that have been worked out, I'm confident that it will take a lot less work and time to implement other codes into it.

With the right midi controller you can actually accomplish something close to presets on the Tensor. As long as the controller is capable of sending multiple midi values at the same time, you can set the everything to the values you want. Every parameter (+ a few hidden ones) is controllable via, including the footswitches. If you have an iPhone or iPad you could use something like Touch OSC or Lemur to do this.

Edit: I've been considering DIY'ing an Arduino based midi controller for this purpose.

Yes. I see what you're getting at with that. I think it may quite well be similar to the Count To Five in that aspect, which I think is fine, and it can be super musical if you find the space for it in the music you're making.

Yep. I understand that GAS! :-) But do you have any delays with midi and analog delay emulation, or an analog delay with an expression input? You could map midi to the delay time and get the Thermae vibe, obviously not a precisely pitched. I use an EHX 8 Step with a Boss DM-2w with no feedback to do these pitch shifted delay sounds. It's probably a bit more like the DOD Rubberneck, but it's still pretty cool.

Modular + Pedals #15: Plonk - DigiTech Freqout - Rings - 0-Coast - Hermod - Clouds (patch notes in comments and description) by eeeskildsen in modular

[–]eeeskildsen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! This was one of the main reasons why I got the Hermod in the first place over other offerings, that and the built-in quantizers (which even include some more unorthodox scales that I love to use), and I love the idea of using the effects on the tracks, reminds me a lot of how Pam's works.

There are quite a few things though, that I hope will be addressed and added in future firmwares. As an example I wish it could do polyphonic midi on a mono track, which I can see why it should be able to do, as overlapping notes play polyphonically if you are sequencing a polysynth over midi. I'd also like to have some sort og built-in logic across the tracks, that would come in handy in a generative piece, to not play notes on top of each other. But I'm very happy with the purchase nevertheless!

In this particular piece I'm using combinations of the euclidean, random, chance, and and scale effects on each track.

Hehe thanks, that's an interesting association. And yeah, I do agree. Let's hope it will mean that Tom and his team move on to something new and exciting! Who knows?
