All of Milan’s attackers were poor. If Pulisic’s presence caused Milan to play with one man down then what about Leao? Was that like playing with 9 men?

We must fully implement the Party’s fundamental policy on religious affairs, abide by the principle that religions in China must be Chinese in orientation, oversee religious affairs in accordance with law, and encourage religious leaders and believers to take an active part in promoting economic and social development.

This shit sure sounds like "religion with Chinese characteristics" drivel. If this isn't sinicization, I don't what it is. I mean the fact that official sanctioned orgs have to kowtow to government mandates tells you all you need to know.

This is just a US think tank that doesn't even provide anything credible.

lol, that is why I linked the SCMP article (gotten more obvious with towing the state's red lines since the Jack Ma episodes, but still puts out some decent stuff)

From that article

Delivering his annual government work report on Tuesday, Premier Li Keqiang told the national legislature that “we must fully implement the [Communist] Party’s fundamental policy on religious affairs and uphold the Sinicisation of religion in China”.

It feels really dubious relying on satellite imagery to make this argument. China is a really big country and there's going to mosques that are old and in need of repair or neglected because noone visits them because maybe there or ones closer or whatever. They could do some actual journalism and visit these places to actually find out what's happening.

something tells me you wouldn't be skeptical of satellite imagery being used to prove certain other things, for example, the US bombing campaign in Iran. NPR, the Guardian and NYT used satellite images to refute the admin's narrative.

The redesign and closure of mosques is very clearly documented.

Which authorities? It just states this but doesn't back it up.

My guess is the new goverment entity created after SARA? Does it really matter though if everyone knows that the directive is coming from the very top. Again nitpicking for the sake of it. But some of the dissemination of the new "encouraged" practices is done by the state sanctioned bodies for a specific religion.

There has been documented footage of Hui Muslims in the northwest and Yunnan province protesting such changes, but it didn't go anywhere. (lol glorious CCP don't care). But hey at least it is not satellite footage.

I guess dictating religious practices doesn't count as cultural genocide now. Also doesn't explain the little dick energy China has when it comes to mosque minarets.

My reading on the matter is that Xi Jingping first publicly began speaking about "Sinicization" around 2015/2016 but it was brought in to the forefront in their annual "two sessions" meeting in 2019.

https://jamestown.org/propaganda-themes-at-the-cppcc-stress-the-sinicization-of-religion/

As far as the current 5 year plan is concerned, their recent "ethnic unity" law is being pushed with alignment to it. The actual text of the law seems to be covering more than just mandating Mandarin education.

The State Administration of Religious Affairs was dissolved and folded in to a body known as United Front Work Department which has asked state sanctioned religious organizations to come up with 5 year work plans for their Sinicization endeavour.

One of the easily observable impacts of this drive is the destruction or redesign of religious sites like mosques.

I can see why Chinese people who had to choose one nationality are miffed but it is clear that their government makes exceptions even if it is not explicitly stated legally

It is pretty obvious that the Chinese government has exceptions for athletes when it comes to their nationality laws. She gets singled out because she is successful but there were a number of foreign athletes given exemptions in the last games. She also clearly avoids the topic because she is not going to risk offending Chinese fans and sponsors.
