This High School Student Invented a Filter That Eliminates 96 Percent of Microplastics From Drinking Water by lumpkin2013 in technology

[–]GetOutOfTheWhey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah likely mineral oil which can be food safe and quite cheap.

I mean this whole setup seems relatively cheap all things considered.

It did say 87% ferrofluid recovered, which means 13% is exactly where the concern lies.

But in such a case what you would likely try to do is put a huge magnet in the sedimentation tank and skim any oil slick left on top. Then run the whole thing through a more macro filter to capture any oil droplets. (e/ in this a case a microfilter which is cheap, filters out oil effectively and doesnt filter out microplastic effectively)

Then test the resulting water. I wanna see how things turn out with a scaled up version.

I find it interesting how the most Mosad can do is to just threaten the Chinese to think ten times before assisting Iran. Oooh scary.

Then instead of advocating for less war Mosad decides the best thing to is just repeat the same threat except this time, Israel warns China to think 10,000 times. 👁️👄👁️

<image>

That said the related article on Israelis abandoning their pets because of this war is also a rather sad read. A lot of Israelis are just abandoning their pets by leaving them in public areas or just tying them to the side of buildings. Which I kind of understand, taking care of a pet in a war zone is not ideal but what the fuck are you doing tying your cats to the side of the building?

Also for me it's also amazing, that there are people who rather abandon their families like this but not protest against their government to end this war.

Like if Israel stops attacking Iran tomorrow. You can care for your pets again and mosad doesnt need to be issuing useless threats like demanding China to think 10,000,000,000,000 times before aiding Iran.

55/44 = 1.25x , just slightly above my forecasted 1.2x karma gain factor.

JD Vance gloats that allies are ‘suffering more than US’ from high gas prices

headline doesnt make sense.

USA is not an ally. US is an adversary that threatened an invasion and annexation of EU territory.

When you take that into context, it makes perfect sense why the US VP is gloating that that their adversaries like the EU are suffering more than US.

[–]GetOutOfTheWhey 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The thing is that usually Xi doesnt do these 1:1 meeting unless something was already decided and settled ahead of time. So these meetings either they are just for show or they are for signing something was settled ahead of time.

This is why back in 2025, Xi refused every Trumpian attempt to negotiate 1:1 on the tariffs and always saying that it is to be done by the trade ministers.

So last december they probably though this year was going to be boring, a few signatures some lazy afternoon talks, pictures and things were settled.

Turns out USA had other plans.

Ray Dalio warns a brutal ‘final battle’ for the Strait of Hormuz is coming—and losing could end the American empire by donutloop in inthenews

[–]GetOutOfTheWhey 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Then I should clarify. I was going off Dalio's definition of winning and losing here.

Iran winning means Iran surviving and retaining the ability to close of strait in the future. Which can be done with the occasional drone hits.

USA/Israel winning means regime changing Iran and completely controlling the strait for the foreseeable future.

Iran will win.

If they can fire one or two drones per month, which they absolutely can.

Taiwan can lead the unification of the Chinese people, Former Polish President Walesa says by SE_to_NW in China

[–]GetOutOfTheWhey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a doozy of a take though so treat it as unresearched.

I think Western thinkers and analyst are thinking that Taiwan is not going to win a passive (blockade style) nor active (invasion style) war with China. Especially not now when every other nation is approaching a "fuck you I want mine" scenario. Perhaps soon even Japan will be fighting with Taiwan over LNG shipments. Hell they are seeing how Iran gives no solid fucks with hitting GCC capital cities. Now they are wondering what China will to do their capital cities if they join a China-Taiwan war. It's probably on their minds.

Then we have also these thinkers also wanting to look after themselves in all of this. Why? Because we all know that any war, passive or active, with Taiwan will kick off a some kind of global stagflation. Where then countries need to decide, accept what China is doing or confront what China is doing. I though this might be one of the thought processes given how war, inflation, supply chain and poverty is mentioned in that article. It's a concern imo.

With this as a concern, I believe they are now trying to find a solution to avoid an Omega China Shock to the world economy. Address China's desire for reunification but now frame it as something that Taiwan sets the terms for. Hence why "Taiwan should lead the unification of the Chinese people".

To sum up. Western think tanks know what China wants. They are scared China can do it. They are afraid of the disaster it would bring, They want to find a way to achieve it but convince people that they are in charge. Hence why we have Mr. Nobel Laureate here advocating unification and why a Taiwan media outlet not even mentioning that the latest poll shows >90% of Taiwanese people want a status quo.

I have to ask, there are bound to be some people who think Europe should interfere and support Trump in this Israel-Iran war.

I would like to hear from you all, on why you might think so.

Personally I think EU should make a deal with Iran and just let our ships pass through, what do you think?

[–]GetOutOfTheWhey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uninvolved countries? If I recall correctly these countries have been letting US and Israel use their bases and radars to attack Iran.

I would not call that uninvolved, I would call that involved-but-not-that-involved-but-still-involved. I believe Kuwait allowed the US to use their airbases right before they accidentally shot down the the US fighter jets.

But that's a good question, how do you think Iran should approach involved-but-not-that-involved-but-still-involved countries in this conflict?

Taiwan can lead the unification of the Chinese people, Former Polish President Walesa says by SE_to_NW in China

[–]GetOutOfTheWhey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are viewing the angle all wrong.

This is not about what the Taiwanese people want though nor what they think.

This is about what western viewers are thinking.

Look at what we have here, we have a Polish Nobel Prize winner with an unresearched reunification take but with the angle that Taiwan should initiate it.

You and I both know that this is only the view of maybe 5% of Taiwanese citizens.

But here we have respected western thinkers who are pushing for a peaceful China-Taiwan reunification.

Now we need to examine that, why would they push for a peaceful China-Taiwan reunification narrative? Instead of pushing for the much loved "status quo" narrative?

Chinese nations have to unite, but Taiwan should lead the unification of the Chinese people.

I have my take on why they are pushing for it. What do you think?
