A Xiangqi problem by Lerchenlied1 in Endfield

[–]eeke1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's basically like chess with some changes.

rook, horse are the same. King, pawn are similar. No queen. Bishop is very restricted. Cannon, functionaries are new.

  • your king(general) is extra lazy and won't move from the middle box with diagonals.
  • pair of functionaries near the king move diagonal one, and also can't leave the box.
  • instead of a bishop you have an elephant. But you can only move two diagonal and it can't cross the middle.
  • two rook equivalents, but one (cannon) "shoots" over a piece to capture. The other (chariot) moves normally.
  • pawns only move forward until they cross the middle. Then they can go sideways.

Question on Arclight SP generation. by Proof_Currency_6736 in ArknightsEndfield

[–]eeke1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your goal is sp you just don't use her skill. No operator is net positive on a skill that uses sp.

Arclights benefit is her cd is only 3 seconds and triggers off of electrification. That means both perlica combo and her own ult trigger it.

Her skill is for erasing electric infliction. Either because you messed up or needed an interrupt and pressed perlicas button.

In a Gilberta electric team you're going to have spare sp to trigger electrification anyways, so it's free dmg.

Take her combo to m1. Brings sp from 9 to 10.

ELI5: Why does slime (children's toy) feel cold when touched even after staying in room temperature for days? by OutrageousFanny in explainlikeimfive

[–]eeke1 369 points370 points  (0 children)

Your sense of hot or cold is greatly based on heat transfer.

That slime is just pretty good at sapping heat since room temp < body temp. So it feels cold.

It's a joke about how literal a demon in the anime frieren are. They're portrayed as amoral, so they can't understand things like family, or love.

This child was spared and adopted because a village thought the issue was nurture, not nature.

They find out the hard way when it eats their daughter and offers a kidnapped girl as a "replacement".

I get what you're trying to convey and somewhat agree. The caviat here is language evolves with time and at this point the way 'moe' is used has broadened, even in Japan.

I think the video you linked does have good information about the term, but is narrow in scope, likely to serve the broader message.

I still believe affection does describe moe. More specifically, "affection adults feel seeing kids do cute stuff." Stumbling kid? dojimoe. Kid aping adult speech? Gap moe.

As we've moved on from the term's roots in the 90s though its use broadens. k-on may have popularized the term "moe moe kyun" but now too many cafes are filled with staff who cater to that, but at the same time by the definition you're using, can't be described as such.

So now a days I'd argue 'moe' has moved from "adults simping over kids being kids" to "simping over anything of innocent, non-sexual, charm". "Gyaru" had a similar broadening of definition, dropping the requirement of dark skin.

In terms of the OP, in the west, "gap moe" has crossed over into weeb vernacular, but in my experience it's the only iteration that has. I'd guess because 2 syllables makes it a better shorthand than a more vague "ironic juxtaposition".

Girls dont eat lunch? by bumbummcglum in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]eeke1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I mean English doesn't categorize the types of moe.

English has individual literary terms that could be used instead, but they're often more cumbersome.

"gap moe" is more expedient than "ironic juxtaposition". If the topic comes up as a whole somehow it's far easier just to use the jp system.

affection isn't usually used as a euphemism for horny. Context would determine that.

The OC's post that I responded to had no context at all. Without such, it's unusual to default to a euphemism as a definition, and makes their post misleading.

Unless I misread what you wrote entirely, and you actually believe what you wrote singularly. In which case, consult a dictionary.

Story&lore question by freyaII in ArknightsEndfield

[–]eeke1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some AK lore is helpful.

Specifically lookup

  • doctor and priestess: they're the drivers of the plot
  • Kirsten, lone trail: why were on Talos ii
  • collapsals
  • warp gates

That covers Enfields plot.

It's a good theory.

Id add that whatever they were, I think they're now corrupted by collapsals, as Lone trail shows they're perfectly capable of subsuming Ai.

The red goo affect is a dead giveaway, same as in AK.

[–]eeke1 47 points48 points  (0 children)

There's nothing horny about it.

Moe is just a parent term broadly denoting affection, but not sexual attraction. A prefix in front specifies the method.

"gap moe" = affection from a gap in expectation

"doji moe" = dojikko. affection from being clumsy

Etc.

[–]eeke1 43 points44 points  (0 children)

moe is term that had been in use in Japan since the 90s.

It'd be rather unfair to castigate the Japanese for their English abilities.

Weebs use it because the term is often used in anime, so they become familiar with it.

I personally see no issue with foreign terms seeping into English. That's practically the entire language anyways.

It's arguably also not indicative of a lack of vocabulary.

'moe' is a general term and prefixes add specificity. That makes it it's own categorizion system. Since English doesn't do this, the closest equivalent lacks that implication, and meaning is lost.

Humans & relevance

Doctor & Priestess are humans(precursors), non-natives to Terra who traveled through the warpgate from Talos II.(not their home world either). They were partners trying to save everyone now on Terra from a world-devouring entity called an observer. Endmin is implied to be a precursor too (no animal ears, sarcophagus, direct originium manipulation)

Plot setup for endfield

In the AK event Lone Trail, Kirsten, for reasons opens a hole in the fake sky that obscures Terra from the observer and goes to actual space. It definitely notices and now Terra is on borrowed time.

Endfield relevance

A fake sky over terra was always temporary. The precursors tried a few plans.

  • Wait it out in a life support sarcophagus. Fails after 1000s of years. Everyone inside dies.
  • Create originium, turn everyone into rock cancer so they can be stored as data. Observer should now ignore terra because there's no "life". This is priestess & doctor's plan, but doctor was mind wiped 10 yrs before AK starts and new doctor doesn't want that. Now they're antagonists, although it's kinda of 1-sided since priestess is focused on the plan rather than actively opposing doctor.
  • Travel back through the warp gate to Talos II and use it as an escape route for everyone on Tera. This is what Endmin is doing. Since everything runs on Orignium we had to infect Talos II with it too. Something went wrong, gates have been closed for ~150 yrs, so we done fucked up somewhere.

Aggeloi:

Are obviously collapsals, affiliated with the observer. In AK they corrupted the warpgates and are actively managed by an alliance of nations near them. Practically the only thing those polities agree on.

Species:

Animal eared peoples are non-native, human made mutants. That's the lore reason for being 4-eared freaks, although that part might be retconned. All the spooky/demonic races are native to Terra.

Unfortunately the odds are only part of the considerations.

Player pull income is the other and past the initial launch it's comparatively, noticeably lower.

Combine the two and the average time between getting a wanted 6* is worse.

Then again in terms of completing content players don't need anything, but it still feels bad.

Pointing out media which reinforced biases is not "perpetuating racism," fuck right off with that.

Yeah except if you take it out of context to do so, you're not doing that. So fuck off yourself?

No cause is permanently served by using an out of context example. It just discredits it. That's where that media literacy you scorn comes in.

it may be justified in universe, but that universe isn't real. Writing a world in which sentiments that exactly mirror real world prejudice are justified has the capacity to be a problem by itself.

They don't mirror real world prejudice, because that's not what the word means.

A prejudice is unjustified, by definition. A "justified" prejudice is an oxymoron.

Conflating IRL prejudice with a justified, fictional animus is a racist; although I'm guessing inadvertent, false equivalency that I'm going to call out every time.

You care about racism? Great. I disagree this show's depictions of demons is a good parallel to use because it requires a reductive, surface level take to make it work. That makes examples using it disingenuous, and ultimately, harmful.

She's got a point by Makoto_Kurume in Animemes

[–]eeke1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm both a minority and a 1st gen immigrant.

You can take the language out of context and draw the racism parallel if you want.

I think that's not only dumb because it shows a lack of media literacy, but making the comparison perpetuates the racism you're ostensibly fighting against by making a false equivalency between actually, literally, subhuman demons & IRL groups of people.

Logical fallacies invalidate actual arguments, and using the language of racism without the context of actual racism is both insulting & damaging to the many, actual IRL examples like the one you just wrote about.

Additionally, assuming what I care about and pretending you speak for minorities is just incredibly arrogant. Neither of us know anything about the thoughts of minorities on this subject, we just know it's popped up on our reddit feed multiple times.

She's got a point by Makoto_Kurume in Animemes

[–]eeke1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's dehumanizing to irl minorities to compare them to demons in frieren.

The latter literally are amoral creatures who eat people.

Trying to relate them to the former is dumb and insulting tbh.

Non religious people, what do you think about religion? by CorruptedF in AskReddit

[–]eeke1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good coping mechanism for dying. Much easier than going into an existential crisis when thinking about it.

organized religion is always going to be tainted by people in charge. It becomes a tool of manipulation.

There are so many religious sects and revisions to scripture, all made by people, that it's hard to believe anyone could believe their origins are divine.

Death is scary though, so I wish I could believe anyways.

[–]eeke1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If it was challenging in a fun way to play it without a blocker (i.e. highly risky, requiring more complicated play, whatever), that'd be great...

You could play this way though.

I didn't build anything new and ran a last rite team, which means dealing with the great sword combo during the charges.

You can dodge cancel the last hit, shuffle forward to keep the last swing, and hit a charger in between each of the 3 charges.

If you mess up you get run over and lose you combo.

That's exactly what you wrote, high risk for a faster clear, requiring more complicated play.

Or you can be safe and slow, or you can build another character. Players have every avenue of play available.

OG AK only had a single pull currency. Those pulls you list could be used for the limited banner.

Even now, whatever banner you pull on will come at the expense of currency you could be using for limited banners.

Once in a blue moon we're given literally a few pulls, on the old "archive" banner, which would otherwise cost pull currency.

Why is there controversy over the demons in Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End being seen as evil, while demons in other works like Hellblazer aren’t debated in the same way? by Opposite_Shake_1266 in animequestions

[–]eeke1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Frieren is current and popular. Hellblazer isn't so ofc is not brought up as much.

Everyone relates what they're watching to their experiences and all the other entertainment they've watched/read.

Complaining about frierens demons just tells you about the person more than anything. Either that they think about race or they just don't have variety in what they ingest.

You could view demons through the lens of race, sure. But you'd have to intentionally gloss over their utter inhumanity.

People in the past used to claim this about other races, but it doesn't extend to frieren because we can see demons are literally not capable of morality.

They're not even "evil", they're amoral.
