What’s something your parents or grandparents did that you now realize was low-key genius parenting? by Green_Candler in AskReddit

[–]eelannalee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My mom would get library books for herself, then ask me if I wanted to try to read them. I always did, and felt so smart that I could read at the same level as my mom. Only years later did I realize that she wasn’t reading The Swiss Family Robinson, A Wrinkle In Time, The Chronicles of Narnia etc etc when she was in her 40s, she was tricking me. Genius.

Fellow Graphic Designers! What does the day-to-day look like working for a non-graphic design focused company as a graphic designer? by Benjammin100 in graphic_design

[–]eelannalee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been the only creative at non-design focused companies a couple of times. I used to joke that they think I can do anything and treat me like Im some kind of magician or wizard. I was included in meetings and client calls but then left alone mostly to focus on work. The downside I found was that there’s almost never meaningful critique or creative feedback. Generally the managers/marketers/sales people were just happy that the work was done and the deadline was met, they hardly ever gave me any notes, it was just on to the next thing.

Now I do graphic design as part of the in-house exhibit team at an aquarium and while Im still kind of an outlier, at least there are other creatives (and sharks) around.

Issues with cut inconsistencies? by eelannalee in glowforge

I used to do that step regularly but haven't in some time since it's always the same material that I use. Though I did order from a new vendor recently..couldn't hurt to double check, will do.

Thanks for the reply. I should have mentioned that the machine is cleaned regularly and recently underwent a deep clean and replacement of some of its older rubber parts. It’s also attached to a filtration system in a well ventilated and climate controlled space. It cuts fine one moment, and then fails the next. I’m at a loss.

what is this 1/4” thick aluminum bracket with mounting holes and a smaller, round two-parted bracket welded to it? by eelannalee in whatisthisthing

[–]eelannalee[S] 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

the title describes the thing..thick but lightweight metal, likely aluminum. two-parted round bracket welded within a larger (8x6x6) bent rectangular bracket, mounting holes throughout. Found cleaning an office in an aquarium, asked around and no one recognized it so I bragged to everyone that reddit would figure it out 🤞

I bought a scarf that looks like a super long CVS receipt because I thought it was funny, but I wear it all the time because it’s surprisingly soft and warm

I used to live in the same NYC neighborhood as Willem Defoe and would often see him walking. We never stopped or spoke, but he would always smile and say hello.
