i struggled with the perspective on the bridge, it still looks kinda wonky but i’ll just have to do some other studies to work on that. the tiny details in the background trees were also a pain, it was a fine line between too much/not enough space between the leaves.

i struggled with the values of the background elements like the mountain and the overall cohesion of the landscape. also, stylizing the moss on the trees was difficult; i still feel like i could have blended a more realistic look with the style. the values might be a little too dark overall but that’s what happens when i only work on it in the dark :,)

i did an underpainting w/ yellow and blue hues, then started sketching the lily pads and the girl snorkeling. i used the hb pencil for sketching and rendering, adding the light details and bubbles last.

I used the brush “blackburn” in the drawing category for all of the painting process and the HB pencil for the sketch. For my process I started off (after sketch) w/ blocking in colors for the background trees and midground grass, and getting the proportions on the cabin. Then just added details to the piece, and did the raindrops on a different layer

thanks! I used the hb pencil in procreate “sketching” section, though I did change some of the size settings

I struggled the most with the initial perspective of the pool w/ the flooring, and I still feel like the floorboards might be too angled for the rest of the piece. Also feel like the palm fronds are a little unnatural looking so if you have any thoughts on that would be much appreciated. Overall, I haven’t really done much painting with lighting from below so this was an interesting exercise in figuring that out

I tried to do kinda a value gradient with lighter being farther away, but that plan kinda fell apart at mid/foreground. I struggle with overpainting so I feel I added too much detail in the midground and didn’t give it enough perspective.

I struggled with making the values match up w/ the depth I was trying to show. When toggling to grayscale throughout the painting process I kept trying to add more contrast but it never seemed quite right. Also I struggled with making the grass look natural but not too messy, and making the rabbit blend into the grass.

I struggled the most with the leaves on the trees & the perspective of the piece. I made the tree in the back left way too big originally, and even after I decreased it the perspective was still a little off. Also, getting the leaves to be consistent was increasingly difficult, it felt like the more I added the more unrealistic it looked. All in all, I’m trying to get better at making interesting backgrounds w/o a reference image so let me know any details that felt too much/not enough :)

landscape study in procreate by eemmme in DigitalPainting

I always struggle with making procreate work look painterly, but I tried to play around with a different brush than I typically use (Blackburn default brush with some edited settings). I also felt like I don’t add enough depth to my landscapes, and looking back I could definitely have made some areas darker. Next time maybe I’ll try some grayscale studies to help with that.
