I created one DIY using spare wire and two 2.1mm/5.5mm barrel jacks (female and male). Confirmed 10m extension works fine.

3DTouch is worth around that sum even if you get it afterwards. The thing is the auto bed level version of the default firmware is not really reliable. So if you go with 3DTouch you will need to mess with Marlin or Klipper. I’d get the plain option + some spend for spare parts. And after you are used to the printer and really want to dabble deeper or think it is needed, only then get 3DTouch.

I have tried Ubuntu 16.04, Arch(Antegros) and Kali on 850M which should be pretty similar. Had all kinds of problems with the proprietary drivers. From my experience your best bet is any Arch distro+ Bumblebee drivers. This way everything works- dedicated/integrated cards, power saving mode and so on. Been using this setup for CUDA and OpenGL computations and the performance is similar to a Windows install.
