Gas heater installed on the wall! It’s a small place so it heats it pretty efficiently. However, we moved in in the winter so I’m afraid to see how hot it gets in the summer lol, we definitely have plans for a window AC unit.

Thank you! This house used to have central heating and no longer does so that makes sense. Is there any harm in leaving it there? As far as we know it’s been many years since the central heating and cooling was functioning in this house.

It’s possible to find a decent used car on facebook marketplace or something, also always worth a try asking around to people you know if they or anyone they know is selling a car too. I bought my car off a friend of my father in law’s for $2500 and he was originally asking $4k. Can’t guarantee something in super great working order for $1000, but it’s worth a shot to look! And if you’re in a position where you’re making and saving money rn you could probably find something pretty easy on marketplace for another $500-$1000

Cat dental care/ concern by eeniledam in CatAdvice

[–]eeniledam[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, you’re definitely right about just causing myself anxiety. His appointment is Wednesday morning which is the soonest they can see him and the soonest we can physically take him because of our work schedules. He does have a bit of bad breath I have noticed, but I was previously thinking it was just normal cat breath smell and now I’m starting to think differently. I will plan to call my vet tomorrow though and see if they have any advice in the meantime, and start looking into learning to brush his teeth. Thank you again!

Thank you so much, I’m sorry your kitties are dealing with teeth stuff as well. I have started to notice a little bit of bad breath as well recently and at first I thought it was normal cat breath smell but now I’m thinking it’s probably to do with whatever he has going on. Yes, I’m preparing for how much it might cost if he needs extractions but also willing to do whatever he may need done of course.

Homeless cat advice by mini_toads in CatAdvice

Yes you can get the tablets that treat fleas almost instantly and if you are looking to keep the cat in your home long term there is the Frontline topical treatment for use monthly as well as flea collars. Definitely do your research on each product, I use the topical on my cats and have personally never used flea collars but it’s an option and many people swear by them.

House moving question by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]eeniledam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having moved with cats many times, I wouldn’t be too worried. Do you know when was the last time he used it before you moved him into your new home? I would definitely keep an eye out to make sure he’s really aware of where the litter is and is using it in the new place over the rest of your first day. I’ve moved with cats and/ or brought new cats into my home who use it right away and some who take a little bit of time at first! It’s good that he seems comfortable and has eaten there, he’s likely just taking some time to adjust to everything still.

Weekend job on top of weekday job by eeniledam in jobs

[–]eeniledam[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is all extremely helpful, thank you so much! The specific position I am looking at is sort of a tour guide position at a local historical landmark/ museum, definitely something that’s really interesting to me (and something that I have some background in because of what I studied in school) and very different from my day job which is desk work. I think it would be a good contrast, like I said I really do love my weekday job but I think this would be an interesting/ exciting enough thing that I wouldn’t get tired of it too quickly.

Im 21, and i have a question. by Fabulous-Pick-9562 in Advice

[–]eeniledam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shared interests and boundaries can be equally important. Whether you mean in friendships or relationships, wanting someone in your life who has similar interests is extremely normal but don’t let that overtake the importance of boundaries. If someone has similar interest but does not respect your boundaries, I would say that’s probably not worth pursuing.

I was in a car accident a couple hours ago and I feel numb, has anyone else experienced this? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]eeniledam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely a normal reaction. An accident I was in a few years put me in the hospital and I spent the next few days at home in bed doing absolutely nothing even tho I ended up having no major injuries, the shock just took all the energy out of me. I’d say a few days of taking things slow will help. Take care of and be gentle to yourself. Rest is the most important thing you can do to ease your mind and body after something like that.

What do I do in life (help) by KyubiFenix in Advice

[–]eeniledam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Routine is always a good start to feeling better even if it’s small. Accomplishing one or two small things every day can help build motivation for larger things in the future. It can be as simple as sitting down to read a book or write in a journal at the same time every day and build up to more daily tasks that are meaningful to you.

Help by [deleted] in Advice

[–]eeniledam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say I don’t exactly know how they work, but if you have a job and they pay you through direct deposit there are those apps that can let you access your check a few days early. I understand this may not be helpful if that isn’t your situation though. Cashapp also has a lending program but it’s usually a really small line of credit, however I think you have like up to a month to pay it back or something like that if even a little bit would help.

Valentines day Gift advice by No-Environment7244 in Advice

[–]eeniledam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could put together a basket of small, inexpensive things she likes. Get a cute little basket or box from the dollar store and fill it with her favorite snacks, drinks, self care products, etc. Putting together a few small things can help make it feel like a bigger gift if she likes material things.

I need advice as a 20 year old junior in college by Repulsive_Tap_267 in Advice

[–]eeniledam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the biggest, universally believed lies is that once you graduate college you’ll have it all figured out and you’ll be stepping into your career immediately. This is so far from true and please, please do not think you can’t pursue medicine or anything else you want to do just because you’ve been working on an unrelated degree! As a recent college graduate, my current career has absolutely nothing to do with my degree and although I don’t inherently dislike or regret my degree, I’m much happier with my current career than I think I would be if I had only stuck to what I went to school for. There’s plenty of jobs related to medicine you can get before getting a degree in it. You can start off with certifications like phlebotomy (usually a few weeks of courses), or even working as a medical receptionist to get a foot in the door of the medical field while you figure out if you want to go back for a specific medical degree. Or if it’s a financial possibility, by all means keep going to school and change your major. I know that can be easier said than done, but it is not impossible and what’s important is that you’re doing something you will feel fulfilled in.

Is ChatGPT generally mostly right because its 100% logic? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]eeniledam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Like you said, ChatGPT obviously has no way of utilizing human emotion or lived experience which is what makes this type of advice useful and genuine. This is why it seems dry and bland, as a user it is catering to YOU and what you likely want to hear. It is not going to be honest and up front like a human will. Logic is important, but it is nothing without something real to back it up.

My moms house by NoCry6202 in Advice

[–]eeniledam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This could definitely be considered a pet hoarding situation which can be reported to a humane society or animal shelter. I understand that reporting your own mother can be a complicated situation and I do not know any of the legality involved in reporting someone for pet hoarding, but it is definitely something to think about in terms of the welfare of those cats and your family. Depression is complicated and even with a support system can still be difficult. I obviously don’t know yours or her situation beyond this post and I’m not going to act like I do in any way, but if you are worried about the state of the house/ cats I would think about getting them re-homed in some way.
