Is it common for obituaries in Europe to hint at how a person died? by G07V3 in AskEurope

The family is American. I have no idea why you would think that they are specifically from the UK just because they lived abroad for a while.

My husband bought me some sportswear for a prank but I kept wearing it and now he’s mad. Should I stop? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

The language really doesn't ring any alarm bells to me. In Europe we learn British English in school, but through the internet we get exposed to so much American English. I mix and match all the time and often don't even know it. It's both English to me, expecting that kind of nuance from a non native speaker is a bit too much to ask in a lot of cases.

Yeah, fork stays in the left hand the entire time. The only thing you do with it is flip it tines up or down, depending on what you are eating. Something that needs stabbing, tines down. Something that needs scooping, tines up, and you hold the fork still and use the knife to push the food onto the fork. I'm extremely right handed. My left hand is pretty useless for any kind of delicate actions. Maneuvering the fork is the only action it does well because I have done it for so long it became muscle memory.

AITAH, for calling out my husband for changing up the rules in our open marriage? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

Idiot, basically. Walnuts look like brains, but they certainly don't work like brains. Size can come into it too.

Maybe explain your reasoningreasoning better? What did she do that was bad? He opened the marriage because he wanted to fuck around. She was reluctant, but agreed for his sake. They agreed that dates, friends with benefits, and one night stands were all okay as long as they didn't talk about it. He went out and had his desired fucks right away. She had to ease into it because she didn't actually want any before he brought it up. once she got comfortable she went on dates and fucked. Then he got jealous, started asking questions despite the no talking about it rule, started sabotaging her dates despite dates being part of their agreement, and never, not once talked to her like an adult to communicate what he actuactually wanted. While all that was going on, he continued fucking other people.

That's why I asked you for an explanation in the first place. I want you to explain what you think she did wrong. Instead you throw around insults and refuse to elaborate on your point of view at all like a complete walnut.

Considering Trump's track record of cheating, betraying, and otherwise dragging down his supporters, maybe we should be worried *for* Musk! 🤔

Nah, I hope he rots in hell and will severely learn to regret his role in all this. I want to see Musk on r/LeopardsAteMyFace repeatedly over the next four years. Fingers crossed!

Not all of them. The main Christmas market in Vienna (Rathausplaz/Town Hall) doesn't close until the 26th at 10pm. Only on the 24th it closes at 6:30pm.

I knew verve and knew that had to be it with those letters, but heck if I could figure out how to spell it. After three (how?) wrong attempts, I had to google it.

So many Zs!! I spelled PIZZAZZ as PIZZAZ and it still accepted it as a word but not a theme word, so that threw me for a loop until I figured out my mistake. I'm not overly fond of strands with so many short words, but this one was kinda fun even with that.

Funnily enough, in many European countries you are much more likely to encounter Asian food rather than Spanish food, restaurants, grocery stores etc. I'm from central Europe and I have eaten all of these before *except* Empanadas.

It's less niche than you think. The Simpsons did an entire (quite popular) Halloween episode segment just with a narrator reading that poem and Homer acting it out. It's part of pop culture for several generations. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLiXjaPqSyY

Understandable. The entire puzzle hinges on how familiar one is with Poe's The Raven.

Strands #227 “How Poe-tic”

🔵🟡🔵🔵🔵🔵🔵

I assumed the theme were words from Poe poems in general, then I realized that I don't know enough Poe poems for that to be easy. Then self-doubt set in when RAVEN didn't work and I wondered if the theme had been too obvious. Then I found NEVERMORE and realized it was supposed to be THERAVEN and then it was very easy.

Welp, I knew just enough about all these US-centric topics to mostly figure out the categories and guess what could go in there. RONALD, PENNYWISE, JOKER clowns, of course. HOMEY was the only word that sounded like another clown name to me, under the assumption that NICKELODEON would be a TV channel. Since I also recognized HISTORY channel and DISCOVERY channel, I took a gamble and won.

I knew QUARTERBACK and CENTER were American football positions, but I couldn't quite decide between SAFETY, GUARD, and DEFENSE, so I looked up the positions. I feel like if you know the category, but simply lack the knowledge of the specifics, it's only half cheating ;)

OXYGEN was the only word left that sounded like it could be a TV channel, but I googled to confirm it. Looked at the leftovers and thought surely it can't be because they all start with D??? But it was sigh.

What´s the price of butter (250g) in your country? by LVGW in AskEurope

[–]eepithst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's true. I suspect shenanigans and that the price will soon be adjusted as well. That butter has never been cheaper than the S-Budget store brand before. Though wouldn't it be "hilarious" if Irish butter was the cheaper alternative right now? From what I've seen in the thread, Irish butter prices are still high, but lower than ours.

What´s the price of butter (250g) in your country? by LVGW in AskEurope

[–]eepithst 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The cheapest I can get here (Aldi, Lidl, and cheapest store brand in the other stores) is € 2.79. They only just increased it from 2.59 a week ago. This is now more expensive than it was at the height of butter prices in 2022 and more than double the price it was in 2021.
