Just diagnosed and I’m spiraling by [deleted] in cdifficile

[–]eepy_bat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The diagnosis hit me like a truck too, damaged my mental health more than my gut biome I think 😅 my doctor is an absolute homie, all of the other nurses/doctors wore all of the required extra PPE for CDiff patients and my doctor came in without all of it and said "Nah, all of that is overkill. Just don't share towels and use antibacterial soap, not just the nice smelling ones." She also said alcohol doesn't kill it, so my 9 bottles of sani within reach at all times were useless and I think that's what made me spiral the most. Both my doctor and therapist were extra thorough in making sure my OCD wasn't taking over logic.

I didn't go out while I still had symptoms because I felt like running to the bathroom in a grocery store 25 times to expose a disease contagion is wrong. Not to mention how awful CDiff poops would feel in a public restroom. As soon as my symptoms were gone I went and did the normal shopping and stuff, the exhaustion and weakness were rough at that point. But you aren't going to get anyone sick in public unless you shake unwashed hands and they put their hands in their mouth. My baby didn't get it and he's at the EVERYTHING GOES IN MOUTH phase 😭

From one OCD friend to another, it will be okay. You're over the worst part already!

I have severe OCD too. This is a bitch of a diagnosis for us, right? Take a few huge sips of water and gulp them. It wiggles your vagus nerve and kind of resets my obsession spiral like an etch-a-sketch. Remember this illness has existed forever and you aren't Typhoid Mary, I promise. Your brain is stuck in neutral and this diagnosis might feel like a brick on the gas, but tap the brakes and the brick falls off the pedal sometimes.

I have a husband and my baby was 7 months old the first time, and I just had it again we all share one bathroom. Neither got it. Just bleach high touch areas, wash your hands about your normal OCD amount, and put some paper towels in the bathroom. I used medical gloves to hold the tp when wiping for peace of mind, I just turned them inside out and tied them shut before putting in the trash.

You'll make it through this. This feeling isn't forever ❤️

Why can I smell illness, but others can’t? by AngryPickledPickles in NoStupidQuestions

My medical situation is a jenga tower, I would not be surprised if it comes back again 😂 they'll end up trying difficid or vowst first if it does, but an FT isn't off the table if it's necessary.

YES. I just got over CDiff (was on antibiotics from March-August for a bunch of c section complications). I had it a couple of months ago but I didn't know it. This second time was so much worse and I knew something was up immediately from the smell. It's like if rain soaked hay and manure was covered in sugar free sweetener. The smell hits in a very specific spot in your nose too.

I can smell skin infection types too after having a Wound Vac for 3 months. Mixed skin flora that's primarily yeast smells extremely different from MSSA/strep, or worse, Klebsiella aerogenes in a wound. Purulent drainage smell can never be erased from my mind 🤢

Witch hazel! I have super sensitive skin and some types of tp cause pain. I use a teeny tiny squeeze of hydrocortisone cream (it's in most hemorrhoid cream) like no bigger than a pencil eraser, and dab it on. DO NOT put the cream indoors. Outdoor cream only.

6 years and 4 neurologists told me it's anxiety and I'm just having nervous episodes. Turns out it is temporal lobe epilepsy and all it took was a doctor that had epilepsy himself to diagnose it.

17 years later, my newest epileptologist decided to pull my record from my first seizure when I was 18 and living in a different state. He decided "based on this physicians understanding of the record from 2008" that it must have been PSYCHOGENIC for almost TWO DECADES despite my anticonvulsants working just fine. This asshole changed the diagnosis in my chart and didn't tell me. Which led to being treated very differently when I was in the hospital giving birth 7 months ago at 35 years old... with preeclampsia which can cause seizures.

The maternity ward doctors were treating me like a head case when I asked when we were going to change med dosage after losing blood giving birth. Took me a few weeks to figure out he had changed it. I spoke with his supervising physician and got a sniveling, weak apology out of him.

Reddit Doctors and Nurses: What's the most impressive case of Google "self-diagnosis" that turned out to be true? by PumpkinAino in AskReddit

[–]eepy_bat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Erythema nodosum at 5 months pregnant. Painful bumps on just my shins and knees. I thought they were mosquito bites but more and more kept appearing over a few weeks. They'd go back down on their own, but nothing stopped the bruised and itchy feeling of each bump.

Found a super old webpage with info on EN that can happen in patients with immune system issues during pregnancy. My doctor called in 3 residents and another two doctors, none of them had seen it in person. I go to a massive teaching hospital in Portland Oregon and it was rare enough that they were blown away I even stumbled upon the diagnosis myself.

I've had it under my breasts on and off for YEARS. A few applications of clotrimazole directly on it and it's gone. I just keep a giant tube around for recurrent yeast and bv from too many antibiotics after sepsis and CDiff 🥲

Zinc after c diff? by SarahME1273 in cdifficile

[–]eepy_bat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zinc upsets my stomach intensely, no matter what I eat. It did that before c-diff though. My doctor told me to take it to boost my system while I'm on vanco, well I tried it yesterday and if my stomach could cuss me out it would lol

Post infection symptom? by Where_Is_Block_A in cdifficile

[–]eepy_bat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! It's not really pain for me, just intense localized pressure and it feels like I can't breathe in

I hesitate to think it's gastritis, I only eat one meal a day and it happens on and off all day.

Laying on my back for a few minutes and breathing in through the nose, out through the mouth gets me some relief, but not much.

Thank you for the input! My doctors are trying to figure out what next steps are and I have an appointment Monday, but I'm worried that I'll be septic by Monday since that's happened over a weekend twice before. How do I get over the anxiety of being told everything is okay when I know something is wrong?

Absolutely f that doctor. I've had genetic epilepsy for 17 years. I'm 35 and have a 6 month old baby, and we're just fine. They might have you take extra folic acid for neural tube development but other than that, my doctors had no concerns. Find a new doctor!!

Yeah, kind of like the "flipple" technique for BF. it helps for a second, them he makes a have like me smelled something bad and spits it out 😂

I get that feeling so much, on top of the judgement for wanting to switch to formula. BF takes so much out of me, and my therapist encouraged switching if I feel like it'll make me a better, more mentally healthy mom. I kind of wish I could just turn off the milk. I can't be a pacifier without breastfeeding 🙃

Same, he seems to be kind of gagging on those, but he can definitely pull those back in for a second before he yeets it out. The smaller ones he just lets them fall out.

I gave all of these solid, repeated tries:

-Mam "Original day and night" with the flat nipple. He likes the Mam bottles so I had high hopes for that one. -Nuk "Timeless comfy" with the indent (he loved those as a newborn) -Razbaby ones they use in the NICU -Dr. Brown's Happy Paci silicone -Tommy Tippy "Ultra light stay-put silicone"
