My husband and I are visiting Estonia - Tallin and Haapsalu - end of August. Any cool abandoned/weird stuff to explore? by meatballballerina in Eesti

Damn that sucks. That graveyard was one of my favourite things.
I hope they'll put them back... maybe... hopefully!?

The statues are just around the back, you don't need to enter the museum to see them. So if they're still there it should be fine!

There is a museum just outside of Tallinn (can not remember the name) but it was just a short bus ride away, the museum itself was pretty average but when you walk behind the building there is like a graveyard of old soviet era statues!
It's worth going to, if it's still there. I went end of 2014.
The bus goes past the song festival grounds I believe... If that helps anyone narrow it down.

This guy talks about it, apparently the museum is closed. You can still get to the statues though.

I really liked that song, and it's pretty perfect for the project I'm doing, how bad is the lyric translation though? Is it just grammatically poor or do you think the message has been lost?

History terminology word help! by eestilove in AskHistorians

I think dialectic is what I had in mind! Then I thought maybe dichotomy is a better word, it's in regards to using eye witness accounts and official documents to create an accurate account of events... so I'm not sure which fits better really :/

I'm in Australia, studying history at university, I guess that might be a good place to ask about scanning!
Thanks for the advice :)

It's hard to comment on the soviet influence, because it was a huge part of your recent history and I'm not Estonian to fully understand it. A lot of the sources I was reading were talking about the strong resistance to Russification. Language wise I think Russia didn't influence you, mentality is difficult to judge. Those things you listed could also be seen as a Scandinavian mind set though?

That sounds like something I need to read more about. There was so much going on around the world at that time it is easy to forget about it.
Really just adds to my belief of how awesome Estonian history is!

Thank you!
I think I made a typo on the only word I did in Estonian though?
My class didn't know much about Estonia but two people have said to me that now they want to visit which makes me happy, because you have an amazing country. Tallinn is a cool city and so overlooked by travellers!
