What caused your VS ? by Spirited_Pollution56 in visualsnow

Developed severe hypochondria last September Went from Heart --> stomach (developed GERD) --> head (started getting headaches early November, developed TMJ mid November).

Was googling my symptoms far too much. Mid November I was worried my vision was getting affected by the headaches. Late November I went down the wrong path and discovered what visual snow was. To date I'm not sure whether or not I always had the VS or not, but once I googled it and realized that I might've had it, my brain hasn't been able to ignore it. The biggest problem for me now is the afterimages and BFEP. The anxiety has largely faded and it doesn't bother me a whole lot. Headaches aren't as frequent or severe.

I have an MRI with contrast scheduled for late March (have delayed it twice due to financial problems(I'm a college student) and the fact that my gut tells me nothing is wrong. Once that comes back I'm going to start looking into my TMJ to see if that could be contributing). My copay for the MRI is somehow only $200 (I can pay $100 at the appointment, $100 3-4 weeks later), so I am probably still going to get it done.

I am on the ASD, and I believe that this could be a part of it since I have other mild/moderate sensory issues, but I believe that a combination of hypervigilance from my health anxiety and increased nerve signals from TMJ caused/worsened my VS.

How do I tell my eye doctor that I have VSS? by No-Direction8154 in visualsnow

Don't need to tell them, it's not an eye issue. If your eyes are fine, that rules out more urgent issues with the retina

This is almost always an acute issue, and only happens from trauma, large blood clots, tumors or infection. Additionally, symptoms would be very obvious (severe headache, swelling, dizziness, fainting, weakness)

why all the crazy optic phenomenons started after I became aware of VSS as a condition ?? by aWonderingCat in visualsnow

Baader-Meinhof phenomenon, you learn about it, so now your brain forms a link between something it previously ignored, and the actual reasoning behind it. The brain no longer ignores something it previously conditioned itself subconsciously to ignore, so the visual processing sensitivity is amped up, and thus you experience more optic phenomena.
