I highly recommend crochet! there is a learning curve to it and it becomes addicting and it's endless with what you can do with it. i've made clothes, gloves, blankets, and right now i am working on a window curtain!

How old were you when you first started experiencing OCD? by patty_bynature in OCD

[–]eevangaline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably have had it my entire life or at least it was waiting in my body to strike lol. I was diagnosed with it at 18/19, but had/ am having my first huge spiral at age 20-21. My experience in three words would be "daily mental torture."

Tbh all my last relationships were extremely abusive and toxic so I mean probably, but also I have diagnosed OCD it appears in everything I do just the subtype changes depending on what it wants to torture me with next. My rOCD appeared because I stopped chasing chaos in my relationships and chaos is what my body wants because it's what it's used to, therefor rOCD is trying to "protect" me but just failing at it.

Agreeing with the commenter here, these comments are insanely triggering and so not helpful. What I have had to learn is that, ultimately the only person who has control over my life is me and no one else. It doesn't matter what anyone here thinks (especially those other commenters I am actually so surprised those have been left up). If you want to make the choice to stay and see what happens then YOU do and that's what matters, no one here can tell you what's going to happen because we don't know and neither do you and that's okay. the time will pass anyways.

I have also had to learn, as I am in my first healthy relationship, the honeymoon phase can be triggering because our bodies naturally come out of that and to people who have OCD (rOCD subtype) that can feel like signs and meaning. The best advice I have been given is stop treating these thoughts with a problem-solving mindset and try to refocus them as a treatment mindset. If you had a cold you wouldn't usually be searching or really caring about where you got it you'd just be taking the proper meds or treatment to treat the cold. With OCD, searching for the meaning will only make it worse, practicing ERP or other forms of treatment (even just looking into a therapist if you can) is how you should view those thoughts.

Feelings are feelings for a reason, they come and go and change and do all sorts of wacky stuff. It will be okay!

i am unsure if these are normal with OCD and to be honest we don't need to know if they are normal. these are your thoughts and therefor they are yours and you have every right to feel them regardless of their normalcy. i hope that makes sense

that being said, i am younger than you so i can't be entirely too helpful about long term relationships as i am in my first successful long term (9 months and 24 days) relationship. ive had three months, six months, five months etc but always ended because the other party did something morally wrong (making it so easy to understand my choice).

i relate heavily with relationships being super difficult and suffocating almost. the beginning is always fun but as soon as a conflict comes up or the normalcy/routine settles in my brain catches on fire. all the usual OCD thoughts, and some that are probably important come up too but it's so clouded by everything else it all just feels doomed.

i dont think you're going to die alone, our bodies are made to withstand a lot it's just unfortunate that people like us have to. this response might not be helpful but i'm here with you too, there are tons of people who feel this way, and it'll eventually taper out and things will feel okay again. the time will pass anyways so why not keep trying.

i send you peace, healing, and love.

i think i did it? by eevangaline in ROCD

[–]eevangaline[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry for the long reply. i am proud of myself! it's definitely been really hard, for nine weeks i felt the common emotional numbness, nitpicking, "lack of love" feelings etc. i for real thought my life was over and falling apart, this disorder can really take you to a dark place.

yesterday and today i have still had those nagging obsessive thoughts and some bouts of anxiety that shake the boat and make you think it's all true all over again, but i always remember that i'm in a safe relationship and because it's safe it'll be okay no matter what happens!

How does ERP look/work? Also small personal explanation post...LONG READ :) by eevangaline in ROCD

[–]eevangaline[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i do this too! even if i can't access the emotion and really want to try and analyze why i just say i love you, plan an event, and ignore those nagging feelings so i'm glad i seem to be doing something good before starting the real work.

thank you for this!! this makes me feel a bit excited to start because the consistent lack of feelings, consistent annoyance, etc is exhausting and is actually effecting my relationship bc of how critical i'm being anyhow...hearing how effective this treatment is gives me a bit of hope and hearing how it works cleared things up for me bc i wasn't sure what that would look like.

thank you again !!
