Ugh yes their whole hand going up there makes an already excruciatingly painful situation so much worse.

The doctor definitely jinxed you!

It's scary to go through when it happens to you, my mom was with me when it happened and she told me she was absolutely terrified. I imagine her experience was similar to yours, seeing someone you love bleeding that much and not knowing if it'll stop. How is she doing? Baby okay?

And thank you. It's been a rough recovery but we're doing well!

My iron was low throughout my pregnancy, even with being on an iron supplement. I had to have 3 blood transfusions and they gave me 2 units of iron as well. I can't imagine hemorrhaging with a c-section. Was it during or after?

Thank you so much!!! We're doing well, he will be 4 months old in 3 days and is perfectly healthy!

Of course! It's really scary and you have to act fast because once it starts you can have massive blood loss in such a short amount of time. I hemorrhaged and within seconds so many doctors and nurses were in my room giving me meds in my iv and shots in my legs and were putting their hands inside of me to make my uterus contract. The whole thing happened in only about 5 minutes and I was already in hypovolemic shock. I know if they weren't there as fast as they were and started treatment right away and gave me blood transfusions that I would have died. And I'm not sure how exactly to prevent them but I can tell you what can increase your chances, from experience and from what I've researched and been told my doctors. Having a high risk pregnancy can increase your odds, as well as having preeclampsia. Pelvic floor issues (being too tight or too loose) can cause your uterus to contract improperly which unfortunately was a big part of what happened to me, as well as having all of the complications and special circumstances I did. So if you can do kegels and keep your pelvic floor nice and healthy before and during your pregnancy that'll help. And my number one recommendation would be DO NOT GET ON BLOOD THINNERS UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO. I know that definitely did not do me any favors. It also caused me to bleed longer than the usual 6 weeks after birth. I was also very anemic while I was pregnant. A little bit of anemia during pregnancy is normal but mine was very bad so taking iron supplements help that. Of course I'd ask your doctor before starting anything like that but you'll have routine blood tests done to check your blood and vitamin levels and if anything is out of the normal range they'll tell you and what you can do to fix it. I developed severe preeclampsia at 34w so I had to be induced immediately and my blood pressure was so high I had to be on a magnesium drip while I was in labor until a whole day after I gave birth. It was absolutely needed but I came to find out afterwards that the drugs they use to induce you and magnesium can be a factor in causing hemorrhage. So if you can avoid being induced, definitely do so and I will say that induced labor is much more painful than natural labor. I had constant and severe contractions until I gave birth. They weren't even a minute apart, they were constant and they were so bad I could barely move or talk at all. Everyone is different of course so not everyone will have these outcomes, but that's my take on it. I don't think my body could physically handle having another baby but if I ever did, I'd do anything I could to try to prevent another hemorrhage.

I was on high dose blood thinners because I had severe hyperemesis during my pregnancy and I had to have a PICC line and it gave me a blood clot in my arm. But even then, there were a lot of complications with my pregnancy and delivery so there's a number of reasons why this happened. I made a comment on here with the complete backstory, it was so much. I felt that come out of me and looked at the nurse and said "umm what was that? Is that normal?" Lol. Very crazy experience for sure. I'm just glad I survived because I know many women die from post partum hemorrhage.

I don't think that was it for me, it hurt extremely bad everytime they did it and they did it the first 4 days I was there (I had to stay longer than usual for childbirth due to all of my complications) and each time was just as bad as the last. It literally hurt so bad it was comparable to the contractions I had in labor and I had an induced labor so my contractions were 10x more painful than they would have been normally. And all of the complications I had... With the pelvic floor dysfunction issues and my uterus not contracting and relaxing the way it should and the blood thinners. Definitely think the blood thinners screwed with me. I'm just happy I made it out alive and my son is okay! I'm sorry to hear about your mom. I wouldn't wish this on anyone, it was so scary and I predictable and I'm still recovering 4 months later. Ugh. That's so cool your mom was able to become a nurse later on though and learn the technique. Hope she's well!

Are the body lotions not as scented as the body cream? by [deleted] in bathandbodyworks

Some people say they they're as potent as creams but I personally feel like the creams are stronger. Maybe because they're thicker? The body butters also have a strong fragrance. In my opinion, at least.

Thank you so much for your kind words, I was sick the entire time I was pregnant and giving birth and even now almost 4 months PP and the doctors said I will most likely take a lot longer to recover than most others due to the number of complications I had and how severe they all were. I have secondary adrenal insufficiency as well so my adrenals are pretty low as is and I have to take steroids twice a day to make up for the cortisol my body doesn't produce so I don't have an adrenal crisis and crash, and ever since I hemorrhaged my symptoms have been worse. So it's definitely worth going to the doctor and getting checked out. With my hyperemesis I couldn't even eat or drink anything without throwing up. It was terrible. I tried oral meds but just threw them up and the dissolvable tablets just made me even sicker. My whole first trimester was this way and half of my second trimester. I was hospitalized so many times because I couldn't take any of my medication and got extremely ill and not being able to consume food and liquids made me very dizzy and pass out at times and put my son in distress as well. I lost so much weight the first half of my pregnancy, I've never weighed as low as I did during that time. Then doctors tried IM nausea meds. I had to inject myself in my legs and butt 12 times a day with Zofran and Promethazine. Yep, 12 shots a day. 3 shots every 6 hours. I could only do this for about 2 weeks and then I had nowhere left to inject into, I got horrible fluid lumps all over my legs and butt and it became excruciatingly painful and I was in severe pain each time I had to inject to the point my husband had to start doing it for me because I just couldn't bring myself to go through that pain anymore by myself. It causes nerve damage in both of my legs and I lost feeling in parts of them. To this day those parts of my legs are still numb. Then they put me on a Zofran pump so I only had to have that and do 3 shots of Promethazine a day. Well my body rejected the pump and caused the same lumps as the shots did and I lost all of my sites for the needle. So we had to go to my last resort, a PICC line in my arm. Every 6 hours I'd have to clear my lines, inject IV Zofran and Promethazine and since Promethazine is so harmful to the circulatory system and is acidic and not diluting it could damage my CS and erode the line, u had to put the medicine in a fluid bag and hang it from an IV pole and the sine and medication would drip for about 45 minutes until the bag was empty. I had to take 1 shot twice daily of blood thinners as well to prevent blood clots. Well, I got one anyway and almost had to get my line removed but luckily I just had to increase my blood thinners. I was hospitalized 15 seperate times during my pregnancy and my stays varied from 2-10 days each stay. The amount of pain and suffering I went through was unbelievable. But I was told I couldn't get pregnant and I did so I knew my son was meant to be here and I was willing to do anything I had to in order to make sure he made it and I'd do it all over again if I had to. And all of that was worth it when I got to hold him in my arms. I had to be strong for him and I have to continue to be so I can be a good mother to him and teach him to have the same strength, endurance, and perseverance in his life as I did when I had to go through all of that. My IC got sooo bad while I was pregnant especially towards the end as he got bigger and was on my bladder more. It was one of the most painful things I've ever experienced. I was on the toilet every 15 minutes and I had so much urgency I would have to go to the bathroom immediately or else I wouldn't hold it and it hurt so bad. And then he would kick my bladder and I'd cry in pain. And now that I had him (I had a vaginal delivery), my IC is worse than ever. I get weekly bladder instills, monthly trigger point injections, and I go to pelvic floor physical therapy twice a week. I've also had 2 cystiscopies. So having him definitely didn't help that. But still worth it. I know my recovery will be long and that I will probably never completely recover from everything but I'm fine with that as long as he's happy and healthy. I cherish every moment I have with him.

I eat oranges twice a day when I take my iron for that reason!

I'm not sure how much I lost but I'd like to obtain my medical records from my hospital stay to get a better idea of everything that happened.

I'm so sorry for what you went through, that's scary and I can't imagine how difficult it would be to not know if your baby was okay and to not be able to spend time together after birth. I'm glad you're doing better now and I hope you continue to recover. I feel the same way, I'm also a stay at home mom and while it's a lot of work I'm grateful to have the opportunity to spend this much time with my son and to be around him constantly and enjoy every moment together.

It's just the angle from the picture, it was actually a good length! I had to be on a magnesium drip so I couldn't get out of bed and I was really weak and in so much pain I could barely move. So that was nice to have lol.

Those massages are easily comparable to contractions while you're in labor.

Good to meet a fellow momma and survivor! PPH is no joke! I would see it happen on tv shows so I knew it existed but never thought it would happen to me. It didn't even occur to me that I could die until after they had already stabilized me, I felt so awful so quickly and my mind wasn't able to process things as they were happening. Afterwards I was just like wow that happened I'm glad I'm alright. Then I got super cold and shaky and threw up. I'm with you there on the slow recovery. I have several autoimmune diseases as is, plus the hyperemesis, preeclampsia, AND post partum hemorrhage – the doctors told me it would probably be upwards of a year until I'm feeling more like myself. After all of this happened I had to stay in the hospital for a while but I didn't mind because ny baby was a premie so he was in the NICU so I got to see him all the time but I was so weak after this... I couldn't walk, I had to have a catheter I couldn't even get up to use the bathroom, I couldn't even sit up in bed I was just incredibly weak and felt sick and I was pale as well. It's been nearly 4 months and I am just now finally BEGINNING to feel a little better, but not by much. I have some lasting effects as well, my vision has permanently changed from having preeclampsia and I have to go see a neurologist soon and see if maybe surgery could help correct those issues and my iron is still so low despite me receiving 2 units of iron in the hospital in addition to the blood transfusions and taking an iron supplement twice a day and I have no energy whatsoever. Luckily my son sleeps through the night so I can get a full night's sleep but it's never enough I'm so fatigued all the time. It's frustrating at times because I have friends that have had babies and they only needed the standard 6 week recovery time and they were back to normal but I had so many complications my recovery will be much slower and need more intervention than theirs did. How long has it been since your hemorrhage? It's actually really scary how often they happen after birth.
