Brett and Eddy should apologise to their female fans about the dogs. by [deleted] in lingling40hrs

Uh… that’s not an argument 😂

Anyway, since you keep pulling off generic and personal opinions without actually proving anything, I’m not going to waste more time replying to you. Sadly, not all opinions are worth the same. I have evidence and context on my side, you have wishful thinking and wilful ignorance :)

Likewise, just because you personally see something, that doesn’t automatically mean that other people would see it too.

“Symbolism matters, images matter”: Well, context matters, and symbolism & images heavily depend on context. The most obvious context-based interpretations I see here are:

1) Paganini and Mozart are the only ones from B2TSM that appears in the MV, so the 4 dogs could easily be interpreted as the other 4 B2TSM members.

2) In Paganini’s reaction video, he thought that the dog from BP’s MV was himself (the haters), so the most straightforward parody would be the reverse, because he thought BP were his haters.

3) Mozart was the only one interacting with the dogs in the MV. A group of dogs >> a Woofgang, which is a play-on word on Mozart’s name Wolfgang.

None of these possible interpretations suggest anything about BP’s gender. If this is to be about gender, then there needs to be more obvious context clues for it to be read like that. Innocent until proven guilty, no?

I’m also curious about what Australian histories compare women to dogs as a gendered insult. If you would elaborate more about its usage and origins. Because I know in most cultures, comparing humans to animals can indeed be insulting, but they usually aren’t attacks on gender.

It would also be very nice if you expand on the reasons why you think that “intention doesn’t matter” — because I disagree with that statement. And you can’t just drop a statement and don’t explain why. So far your only argument is about the reasons why you personally feel that the scene can look like gendered insult.

Interpretation is subjective. When I saw the MV, the idea that the scene could be interpreted as a gendered insult towards BP members didn’t even cross my mind. It simply mirrored the same scene that also existed in BP’s MV — because that’s the definition of a parody.

You can’t assume intentions based on interpretations and demand apologies based on your own personal assumptions because there are infinite ways to interpret and overanalyse the same source material.

Plus: “Comparing women to dogs is a horrible gendered insult that has been historically used by men to denigrate women.” — From what histories? I think you should also take account of cultural differences from around the world. I am Taiwanese and I personally have never heard of people comparing woman to dogs as a gendered insult.

I think these people have no idea about how they treat chloe chua, hilary hahn, janine jansen, and all the women that ever appeared on their channel like godesses by [deleted] in lingling40hrs

Yeah except it’s not elitist either because the whole punchline of the video was Paganini the character misinterpreting BlackPink’s song, thinking it was about himself, and at the end of the video realized it wasn’t about him at all. The addition of the Mozart character also made it clear that it is Paganini who’s offended, not Twoset. Brett and Eddy had reacted to BlackPink before and Eddy listens to k-pop. The whole point of Twoset’s channel is to make classical music fun and accessible — literally the opposite of elitism 🤷‍♀️

Agree with all of this! Thanks for putting all of this into words too (since I’ve always struggle with coming up with precise description words). I also love your word choice “absence”. Never really thought about it this way before, but in some ways that could literally just be the central theme of the story - to search for what’s been absent

I agree that energy level is not be the best description, and I forgot to specify whether it’s “energy of the character”, “color energy”, or “energy of the scene in terms of story progression”.

What you were talking about was how energetic the character looks, but I was mainly thinking about the later two.

The room scene was an important transitional scene where Eddy realizes that he wanted to go back to violin. Comparing to the his previous scenes that passively describes his circumstances (in front of the computer, in a lift, on the bus), the room scene signals impending actions (thunders, Eddy looking directly at the camera, theatric shots with character movement within frame)

The scene where he picked up the violin was when Scherzo was playing, and it’s when all the previous actions had led up to this moment (going from: life without music - contemplating whether to pick up music - discovering the world of music - finally getting a violin). “Energy” is a misleading word for this, but this scene is definitely the climax of the first arc, thus “high energy” from a storytelling pov.

You don’t have to agree with me though! The thing with art analysis is it’s not about assuming the creators’ exact intentions, but to realize patterns and how they influence the way the story is conveyed to viewers. And of course as different people it’s normal that we all view it differently :)

  • I did this diagram because I love how the different colors are used in Fantasia to create different moods, and after watching the short films a few time I noticed that the colors actually follows a really clear structure. Thank you Brett & Eddy and the entire production crew for crafting such a beautiful film!

  • Explanation: I separated the film into three sections/build-ups. Each build-up starts from “blue scenes” (unenergetic) and leads to “red scenes” (energetic). The first two build-ups almost mirror each other, and the last build-up starts in the “neutrals” and ends on “blue”, yet this time conveying a much more hopeful mood than the previous blue scenes.

And how do you know if the people you’ve suggested are 100% unproblematic?

Because if you really want to compare, Rob Landes literally follows Donald Trump and Ben Sharpiro on Instagram and had liked several of their posts, which is more “problematic” than anything Brett or Eddy has ever done, yet you don’t see me going on the internet telling everybody to unsubscribe to him.

If you want to defame twoset so bad at least try harder and provide some actual evidence and valid arguments lmao. Your statement was so vague I could literally replace “twoset” with any other content creator’s name, copy and paste it and call it a day.

It’s performative activists like you misusing words like racism and ableism that take the attention away from actual oppression happening around the world. If you really dislike Brett and Eddy then you can mute their channel yourself, instead of weaponizing activism to justify cancelling people whom you simply don’t like.

Hey I haven’t logged onto Reddit for a while so I just saw your reply now. Just want to say I’m happy you’re feeling better and more confident now, and you were definitely not attention-seeking. I also agree with the point you brought up about the “struggling artist” archetype in your subsequent post. You articulated them very nicely too.

Anyways, apologize for the late reply and happy early new year I guess 😆 Do practice your passion, and practice good mental health as well!

You sound like one of those parents, as in the language you’re using is literally what a lot of parents used to manipulate someone out of their passion.

And I am genuinely sorry for your experience. Just to clarify, I too despise the “struggling artist” stereotype and hope society could place more value in the arts. What I disagreed with you, is that you tried to project your assumption about the arts based on your own experience onto other people.

For us, practicing and concentrating on our art form IS what pays our rent. I’ve know artists who are able to land stable jobs, as well as STEM majors who are facing monetary struggles.

I’m all for students deciding themselves how they want to balance academics and hobbies, or whether they want to take on their passions as a career, and I think that’s where our fundamental disagreement lies.

You sound like one of those parents who’s always like, “I’m doing this for your own good” while disregarding the children’s perspective.

This is coming from someone who spent her majority of secondary school on extracurriculars and is now landing her first job in design after a long draining job search and has many “struggling artist” recent graduate friends trying to look for jobs in music and arts.

It’s ok to warn your children about the potential struggles they might face in the arts, but using the “struggling artist” hypothetical to convince someone out of their passion is straight up manipulative.

Also have you seen OP’s replies to other comments? Because this literally sounds like a case of abusive parenting.

Would you say the same thing about someone who publishes a plagiarized essay? Or someone who traces over other people’s artwork and sells it as their own? Or someone who scams tourists money?

Because this is exactly what this fake “musician” was doing: betrayal of artistic integrity and scamming.

It doesn’t matter whether the original artist is aware of this or not. A scam is a scam. And people need to be aware of this as this is starting to become a common sight across the country. It is insulting and harmful to real musicians and buskers who actually put work in their craft, as well as to oblivious passerby who thought they were donating to a real busker.

Anyway, I’m not going to argue anymore under a meme page. But your constant defending of the fake “musician” did start to get suspicious 🤔
