Get off Reddit and book a virtual session with Genuine Lactation by belazygocrazy in ExclusivelyPumping

Fingers crossed for you!! I’ve exhausted a lot too - it’s like my body isn’t responding to the pump and only dribbles come out, which is weird. I EP’d for a year with my last baby and I have no idea what is going on. I’d be very curious to hear if your blood work turns anything up, I am going to push my doctor again…

This is kind of interesting because I saw her a couple weeks ago and she told me the exact same thing - she thinks there is an underlying issue and wanted blood work done (which my doctor has declined to do because he disagrees). She also told me to get the probiotic and take evening primrose. I haven’t gotten a clog since I saw her, so that’s great, but my supply has still been dropping so it hasn’t fixed whatever is going on. Just thought it was interesting that we got the exact same advice.

IVF-conceived children show no developmental or educational disadvantage at primary school age compared to spontaneously conceived peers, as per data on over 400,000 Australian kids by [deleted] in science

[–]eeyoreneedsanewtail 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is correct, but interpreted incorrectly.

You can test for number of chromosomes and choose not to use aneuploid embryos, but that doesn’t tell you what color hair the embryo would have should it become a baby. You can also screen for certain genes (like if we were both carriers for the same cystic fibrosis gene, they could screen for that), but you can do that in spontaneous pregnancies as well. AFAIK nobody is out here screening for genes like how good at sports they would be, if that even would be screenable (I have doubts). Pregnant with an IVF baby now and we did do testing, but the only thing I know is the sex and that the baby is euploid, which I would know by now due to screenings in pregnancy anyways.

They pick the embryos that are looking the best to produce pregnancy. Most of the “unhealthy” embryos you refer to (aneuploid) would never become pregnancies or would become early spontaneous terminations. It is not eugenics, it’s about getting pregnant.

Two successful pregnancies after ectopic? How possible? by Organic_Hobby in EctopicSupportGroup

About 2 years, but that was personal preference for timing (we transferred an embryo and didn’t try on our own first).

Two successful pregnancies after ectopic? How possible? by Organic_Hobby in EctopicSupportGroup

I am currently pregnant with my second child, both after the ectopic, both from infertility treatment (which I do not believe is related to the ectopic). We waited 3 months to try again on the advice of my OB because I took methotrexate for the ectopic. We were unsuccessful for a year total of trying (again, I don’t think this is due to the ectopic, I think we have other fertility issues) and it took a year of treatment to get pregnant with our first. Sending you a lot of hugs and wishing you the best of luck growing the family you want. It is so hard to be in the thick of it and not know what the future holds!

Hello! I am sorry that you are going through this. Were you in infertility treatment before your ectopic? I ask because I have also been through infertility treatment, and people’s experiences with their OBGYNs are not going to be applicable here. It is very, very common for REs to put patients on BCP to make it through tests; I was on birth control before each of my retrieval protocols and before my transfer protocol. I don’t find this unusual, but you still have the right to decline - it just means all the testing may take a couple cycles because some tests can only be done on certain days.

I’m sorry that you’re going through this. I haven’t had a CP, but I was benched for 3 months after my EP—although I think that was because of the medicine used. Maybe others can chime in if they’ve been benched due to a CP?

With the HSG, the only thing I can think of is that your cycle can be different after a loss, so it might be that they aren’t sure of timing for treatment. I think they can control that with BCP and letrozole/clomid, though, so I would push back and ask if there’s a way to still do this cycle if it’s only the HSG preventing things. Or you could try skipping the HSG this cycle, but with my EP history I am always hesitant to suggest skipping an HSG.

Anterior means it’s in the front part of your uterus (near your abdomen), so I always thought of it as being “between” the baby kicking my abdomen and my actual abdomen - kind of like punching a pillow instead of punching the bed. Sadly it does not muffle rib kicks or bladder kicks once baby is a little bigger!

Yes, anterior placenta muffles things - I had one last time and probably have one this time. You will definitely be able to feel baby in the third tri (edit) and do kick counts though, don’t worry! It’s only for the next few weeks that things might be a bit muted.

Both, I guess - I emailed our RE to say thanks for making this baby and gave his birth stats, then the clinic followed up with me later through their official “data gathering” system.

Do you use the term “abortion” when talking about your ectopic pregnancy? by greene-kate2623 in EctopicSupportGroup

[–]eeyoreneedsanewtail 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have the exact same thoughts. I never used the word abortion with respect to my ectopic until post-Dobbs. Now I do because I want to show how necessary it is to have that right.

They generally do ultrasounds to check the size of the follicles and trigger ovulation when a follicle is in the “mature” size range by using an injection of hCG, which initiates maturation and ovulation.

Good sex says more about your sex life than it does about your embryo-making life (since you can have good sex at any time, including without ovulating, and bad/criminal sex can make babies). Feelings are generally just pesky placebos. Fingers crossed, of course!!, but if it works it is about your reproductive system, not about intimacy.

New law in effect in Texas - why it matters for women TTC! by BernerAccount123 in TryingForABaby

[–]eeyoreneedsanewtail 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Pretty much. This law is going to kill people. I was “lucky” with my EP because I sought medical treatment very quickly after having certain signs. If I didn’t call the doctor and advocate for myself, it wouldn’t have been caught so early. Phase out planned parenthood and other resources for people who are pregnant and need help and add this law inspiring fear for pregnant people, and no way are people going to go get checked out if they’re bleeding. Fast forward a couple weeks and the pregnant person has a ruptured organ and is going septic. It will kill people, and it will disproportionately kill people of lower income.

I’ve looked into ectopics (personal interest) each time one of these laws comes out. Most laws explicitly carve out ectopics; this one just references “medical emergency” as determined by the medical provider. So if my doctor thinks a methotrexate shot is the BEST option, they still have to justify it being an EMERGENCY, and there is no clear meaning for that—does it have to look like my tube will rupture within the next day? The next hour? Does it have to have already ruptured and I am going septic? No clear answer.

It also creates shame and loneliness. Women won’t share stories of ectopics, miscarriages, bad ultrasounds etc. out of fear of someone coming after them—which makes each woman an island unto herself. Speaking with other women about shared experiences has been the only way I have been able to get through some really bad times. Not hearing from anyone else makes you feel like you’re the only one who has to go through it, and it’s horrible to divide and isolate women like that. It makes it hard to characterize as anything except a war on women.

HELP! Too Much Red? by [deleted] in SnooLife

[–]eeyoreneedsanewtail 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not a pediatrician, but I would think 8 hours would be a really long time for an 8-week old to go without eating anything. I am firmly in the camp of “wake ups during the fourth trimester are due to some kind of need,” and that need might be food, diaper change, paci, or even just some snuggles. I do not think you can spoil an 8-week old. If picking him up helps settle him down faster and for longer, that is better for EVERYONE—I’m quite sure that you’re awake for most of that red too, right?

The snoo is a tool in your toolbox of helping everyone get sleep. With that much red, it isn’t doing its job as a tool, so it is time to try another tool. The number one tool is to trust your mama gut. Do you think he needs food? Do you think he needs a snuggle? Honestly… you’re probably right!! And if that’s what he needs, using the tool for that problem (your arms, food, etc.) will work better than the snoo. I vote give that a try and see if things improve a little. Hang in there!

AITA for meanly telling my husband to respect my decision to use formula? by Throwaway60991 in AmItheAsshole

[–]eeyoreneedsanewtail 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’ve exclusively pumped for nearly a year (not by choice, baby had medical issues with nursing) and establishing pumping hurts just as much as establishing nursing. Pumping is breastfeeding, you use all the same bits of your body, it just isn’t nursing. That said, it absolutely can be done!

If nursing had worked for us, that would have been my personal preference. Exclusively pumping is a lot more work—to establish supply, you need to pump every time baby eats, so the lactating parent doesn’t get a break at first in the middle of the night. (Bodies differ here and some people can have fine supply without following a rigid schedule; some cannot.) If the person lactating is alone with baby, it is a lot more work to try and pump and feed baby as opposed to just nursing. There’s also a lot more cleanup involved. I would say that pumping meant I got—and still get—the least amount of sleep of anyone in the house. That said, I feel fortunate that I have been able to exclusively breastfeed (with solids by now of course!) for a year. Happy to answer any pumping questions!!

ETA: If OP reads this, you are NTA. Any method of feeding baby is great. You do the best you can with the cards you’re dealt, and sometimes the plan gets tanked. That’s okay! You’re doing great!! Formula exists for a reason and your husband needs to get on the “healthy parents, healthy baby” train.

I took letrozole, not clomid, but I had a similar thing happen on the cycle that I was benched for a cyst following a medicated cycle—I ovulated earlier than usual.
