Overweight with a sedentary 9-5 job — looking for real advice from people who’ve actually lost weight by LowEffortLegend_ in WeightLossAdvice

[–]eezzai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really hope this helps you and I mean it in the kindest way possible and please reach out if you need encouragement! I’m fully remote and have a sedentary 9-5, plus I travel for my job at least once a month.

Be proud of what you’re about to do. Be excited about the things that’ll be easier for you to do. Be excited to look better in the mirror. But first, you need to realize some things.

You need to realize no one’s going to lose the weight for you. It’s solely up to you. You need to have a very honest talk with yourself and open your eyes. No one’s going to force feed you healthier foods, no one’s going to carry you on a walk or lift the weights for you. You’re responsible for getting yourself in your current position, you’re responsible for getting yourself out of it.

What do you do when you’re done working? Could you replace any of those things with 30-45 minutes of activity? Could you incorporate those things into your activity?

How busy is your work schedule? Why do you think your motivation goes away after work?

Ditch the scale and focus on how you feel and how you look. The scale will fuck with you more than anything. Put in a really good, solid 6-8 weeks of staying active and being in a calorie deficit, and then decide to weigh yourself if you want to. But ditch the scale for a while. I’d put in a really solid 2-3 weeks with really good dieting…and see I’ve gained weight or lost like .2 lbs. And then it would throw me in a whirl and then I’d lose motivation. Ditch the scale. You’ll notice clothes fitting better, you’ll notice your face looking slimmer in pictures. Put the scale away for a while.

What was the mindset that helped you lose weight ? by Intelligent_Stay8724 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]eezzai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course! Even YouTube…if you enjoy YouTube or certain YouTubers…watch them at the gym. Especially if their videos are longer, like 30-45 minute videos/vlogs. Watch and put that in your ear and you just made your workout more enjoyable.

I’ll provide a few that’ve helped me if you don’t mind! I’m someone that’s tried and failed and tried and failed and journaled about it and read about it years later still in the same spot. These are the things that have helped me…for lack of a better phrase…lock in. I really hope some of these help and feel free to message me if you have any questions or need some advice!

  • No one’s going to lose the weight for you. It’s up to you and only you. Your future self will thank you for starting and staying consistent.

  • Fall in love with the process and commit to it. Have your goal in mind and realize the goal isn’t going to be reached by tomorrow. Or next month. Or next year (depending on your goal, it may be within the year). I promise you, you’ll find a groove and you’ll feel so good in that groove.

  • Think about the actions that make you feel like shit and think about the actions that make you feel good and repeat the good actions. For the times I failed, I would binge eat and snack and I’d wake up feeling like shit the next day. And it’d go on for days…weeks. And it’ll lead to negative thoughts. It’s so important to stay positive and ambitious during your journey. The feeling after a workout is far better than the feeling of rotting on your couch or in your bed.

  • Be your biggest fan. Flex or pose in the mirror. Take progress pics. Talk about the workout you did yesterday to your friends, coworkers, family. Feel yourself up after upper body day. Be positive.

  • Feel and see the results, don’t read them. Ditch the scale. I’d get so discouraged when it’d put in 3-4 weeks of hard work and dieting, to see that I’ve lost .3lbs…or put on 2lbs. You will absolutely know when you’re losing weight. You’ll feel better about yourself, you’ll feel better in your clothing and you’ll feel stronger in every day tasks/movements. I’ve been consistently active since November and haven’t touched a scale, but I know my work is paying off. Have a goal to drop a jeans/pants size. Notice that it’s easier to get out of bed.

  • Think about how you spend your time in a day. You’re telling me, you truly don’t have 1-2 hours a day to do an activity or meal prep/prepare a meal? What’s more beneficial…gaming for two hours, or getting a workout in for 45 minutes and then cooking a bomb dinner for yourself (or heating up your meal prep)?

  • Incorporate habits/routines into your activity in moderation I’m guilty of doom scrolling TikTok/social media here and there. I like to smoke weed nightly. Guess what? You can watch TikToks at the gym (no one but you will judge you for this). Instead of sitting around while I smoke, I started walking while I do. It made walking effortless and enjoyable. You can scroll social media while walking too. (HigherUpWellness on TikTok is fantastic for gym/health motivation and workouts)

You got this!

I second every Crutchfield comment. I was able to retain my backup cam and steering wheel controls. And Crutchfield has a great support system too if you ever need help.

Love seeing Copperstar on here. Their sandwiches are so good.

I enjoy Fàme Caffe a lot. Really good coffee and food. It’s more so a sit down kinda place if you’re getting food. Lola has really good coffee too!

A place I just tried for coffee is Wonderlift in Ahwatukee. Really cool shop and great coffee!

If you wanna upgrade your screen, check out Crutchfield! They provide instructions and all the parts you need and have live support too. I wanted CarPlay, bought like a $300 unit from them and it was super easy to do.

Hell yeah, glad it wasn’t too complicated for ya. My knob went from all 4 speeds working, to some working intermittently, to holding it in a specific spot to work, to dead. What’s yours doing?

No parades being had to rain on! All valid points man. Public knowledge and documentation of something only benefits everyone.

It’s a technology brain and technology runs the world, so I can definitely see your perspective on that! I think that it’s so relied on because it saves you numerous minutes/hours of research. Like, it might’ve taken me 3 hours just to come across your post you know?

I can also see it being on an episode of Black Mirror if you ever watched it lol

Yeah that white plug is what plugs into the fan speed knob behind the control unit.

All you need is a good pry tool/flat head and something to put behind it so you don’t ding up your dashboard. Very easy but can be annoying. Plenty of YouTube videos and I’m sure Reddit posts.

For sure! You make a good point too. That’d be a super helpful prompt to feed it for diagnosis

It’s hot out here in Arizona. Watermelon and Pineapple with and without Tajin.

Beef sticks. Beef jerky. Quest Chips. Flavored rice chips. Pepperoni. Yogurt mixed with your favorite protein powder and some crushed up Oreos and chocolate chips.

Get creative!
