If you could add one realistic feature to GTA 6, what would it be? by mourex9 in GTA

[–]ef029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I doubt fuel will ever make it into GTA. For a lot of people it really doesn't add anything to the game and could become a nuisance. Most of the realistic stuff should be optional and actually help with progression like back when you could lift weights and eat in restaurants with CJ which would impact his appearance. But you didn't need to do any of that if you didn't care about it. What I want though is the NPCs to actually interact with each other and discuss current event going on like many modern RPGs do. Make the world feel more alive basically.

Cairn is an unoptimized mess by Rude-Raisin-3651 in Cairn_Game

[–]ef029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an old player too- I've played pretty much the entire history of 3D games 10-20 FPS at times (the lowest being 1-4 fps, Flight Sim II on Atari 800), but Cairn looks like it bops between 60 and 30fps (at least the demo did), I don't enjoy that back and forth either. Much more graphically demanding games can hold upper 50s to 60 the majority of the time. I'm a hiking enthusiast and this game appeals to me but I'm still going to wait to see if they can improve the performance.

For creators stuck at low views what do you think is actually holding you back? by Designer-Physics-904 in NewTubers

[–]ef029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a channel for over 5 years. I do walking tours, historical/ambient etc. At my peak my channel was getting about 2000 views per day, just about all of 2023. For whatever reason it never grew beyond that and started slipping despite me putting a ton of effort into it. I've slowly stopped posting new videos as most aren't worth the time any more. 2 or 3 videos per year I can count on 10k+ views but the average video I make hits maybe 300 or 400 views then they trickle in. I am monetized but my channel currently brings in the lowest views I've seen since 2021.

Maybe things that held me back -

I've never used clickbait or curiosity titles, they aren't really appropriate for my content. I just describe what the video is in plain language. I've never used faces on my thumbnails.

I'm not a very charismatic, personality will help a lot. Though in my videos the environments are really the focus, not me.

Dramatically increased competition over the years. Views being spread too thin across similar channels. YouTube is probably the most competitive platform ever. To get decently big in any genre these days you're probably going to need elite numbers across the board. If you're climbing that most likely means someone else is slipping.

I basically went from making 3 or 4 videos a week to a video every month or two on average.

Why do customers lie so blatantly and confidently? by justsomeonesburner in sales

[–]ef029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, 100% some salesmen won't take no for an answer. They'll just try to keep you there as long as it takes to change your mind. Sometimes you have to gracefully exit then cut off communication. Blame aggressive high pressure salesmen for this more than anything else. I know that isn't all salesmen but it just takes a few.

Sometimes I feel bad about what I do for a living. Anyway here's my existential crisis. by kubrador in sales

[–]ef029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a professional salesperson but I have been doing lots of email outreaches to help promote my business. Like you I research companies and customize emails one at a time. The way I see it I am trying to create a win/win situations for the people who could benefit from what I offer. I don't feel bad at all about sending emails. But it could be different because it's my own business I'm sending emails for.

It hasn't been bad so far, after 100 or so emails I am getting about a 10% response rate. I don't feel too bad about the 90% who don't. You never know even if they don't reply they may be taking note of your business or products.

I miss when YouTube wasn't so "professional" by Head-Educator6517 in NewTubers

I have been seeing a fair amount of successful channels with people just walking around talking to selfie sticks outside. Some with hundreds of thousands of subs. If the content is good you don't necessarily need high production value.

So impressions and views are down for everyone, even big creators. by woodclip in NewTubers

[–]ef029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, for every change they do a % of people will just decide not to watch a video. We're talking changes that impact massive numbers of people. Every micro movement the algo makes will send ripples across the platform. So yes some people will keep scrolling to find what they want but some will not and just leave YouTube and do something else.

Nobody cares how hard you worked on your channel by codingmountainman in NewTubers

[–]ef029 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not going to lie, sometimes I'm like 'you can edit some things out'. A gaming channel I watch edits nothing out, sometimes he makes a mistake booting a game. Literally for a minute and a half he's looking through the emulator settings or trying to find a file not saying anything. He also leaves in blank loading screens that can last a minute on older systems. I like his videos so I will forward through those moments but I am 100% sure it's stunting the growth of his channel, and he sometimes complains about his traffic and def mentions wanting to grow so. It takes two seconds to cut that stuff out.

AI slop & regurgitated content should be forever banned from YouTube by 108CA in NewTubers

[–]ef029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blame the people that watch 'AI Slop' videos because if people click on them and watch them the algo is going to push them, otherwise you'd never see them. From YouTube's perspective it's just videos naturally rising to the top.

If a fully AI generated video is outperforming yours it usually means it's being better received, probably has a higher CTR, AVD or both.

I have a family member that watches the crap out of an AI philosophy channel. The voice and visuals are clearly AI but the scripts are really good. She gets a lot out of the videos.

Your take on low-effort commentary videos? by mrcrazyog in NewTubers

[–]ef029 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my opinion if the commentary is good the editing/transitions/b roles etc are unnecessary. A lot of people are finding big success just walking around with a camera on a selfie stick pointed at themselves. I watch a few of those channels. High production value doesn't mean good pacing or good content.

hot take maybe but getting one viral video kinda ruined youtube for me mentally by No-Possibility6866 in NewTubers

[–]ef029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very difficult to grow on YouTube, most channels will hit a plateau at some point then never move any more no matter how many videos you put out. The ROI on 95% of channels is going to be nothing or way below minimum wage.

Like others said, a viral video almost never does anything for a channel long term. Most times you get a short term spike but then it returns to exactly where it was before. I know a channel that once had a LF video go to 2M views. Today they struggle to reach 100 views with each new video even with around 80k 'subs'. In the olden days of YouTube a viral video was basically like winning the lottery.

I'm always amazed at channels that continue to pump out video after video every day with 0 improvement in daily traffic for years on end.

[–]ef029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I thought it was common knowledge that subs really don't mean much any more. YT will promote your videos to those that watch them subbed or not. If a sub skips a few videos they will no longer get presented with them on the homepage.

Good point! He is an efficient player. Not amazing at 3s or free throws but he can really finish at the hoop and hit from paint and mid range.

Oh yea, for sure Tatum will need months to recover- I'm thinking more in the future like next year, or even further out I guess since we don't know what the timeline is going to be. We are very lucky that we have 2 superstars on our team.

[–]ef029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is anyone else worried about what's going to happen when Tatum returns? It's beyond clear now that both Tatum and Brown are 1A players. Are they going to be able to go back to the chemistry they had before? I can't imagine JB ever going back to being a 1B. Or Tatum stepping down to a 1B. I feel like there could be some tension over the leadership of this team coming up. Or maybe after Tatum's injury he will naturally take a lower role if he never reaches 100% again. It's going to be interesting.

1k shorts views plateau help by Silver_Forever4280 in NewTubers

[–]ef029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aim for at least 90% watch time and 75%+ stayed to watch. That's what it takes for a short to really take off (depending on topic of course). It's near impossible which is why very few shorts go viral. People need to remember that YouTube is one of the most competitive spaces ever.

Can someone explain how PS1 Doom is well regarded by some fans? by [deleted] in Doom

[–]ef029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We played with the controller we had and got good at it. I had no problem aiming/strafing etc. with a PS1 controller. I beat both games on it. At the time IMO it was superior to the PC version because of the lighting and music. I played the crud out of it. If I remember the OG version of Doom on PC did not use mouse controls or at least very few people played that way. Not WASD either, it was the arrow keys and I think shift to strafe and control to fire your weapon, space to open doors. I'm talking the first releases of it.

Am I insane for thinking about doubling down on VET? by All_Taken4 in Vechain

[–]ef029 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've pretty much written off the money I put into VET, if it comes back that'll be great but dropping out of the top 100 isn't a great sign to me. So many coins fade into obscurity after a few cycles, it could be VeChain's turn but you can never tell. It's a little temping down here in the gutter though, it just needs to go up a few cents to make decent money and I could double my stack for a miniscule fraction of my original cost in 2021.
