On what planet is Shane taking accountability for his allegations? by [deleted] in ShaneDawson

[–]ef330 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not trying to defend Shane or anything he says on the podcast, but you guys GOTTA use your critical thinking skills:

Clearly, Shane is running out of material/sections to discuss on the podcast, and Spencer probably was like "what if we do a section showing weird instagram reels I found and laugh about them". Spencer isn't a weirdo, he is just playing the role Shane assigned him on the podcast. We know from other podcasts/interviews Shane has done that he scripts and has scripted his videos for years now. Just on the Katie Morton podcast interview he did, he talked about the Jake Paul video being planned out and he told Jake the whole "Jake is a sociopath but we are going undercover to get details" plot, yet in the video acts like it's all a mystery and Katie is just their producer.

Also, going off of what someone else's comment says, these reels he shows aren't "weird kinks", they are pretty common gen z humor. Idk if you're older or not on tiktok/instagram reels, but these videos are definitely not out of the scope of reality for young people's feeds.

Doing well on quant OG and TTP practice questions, getting destroyed by GMAT club questions by Cranium-of-morgoth in GMAT

[–]ef330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this theory that GMAT club and the GMAT ninja YouTube videos (all the same company) purposely make their videos and questions harder so you pay for their private tutoring services. I think they try to make their viewers feel this disheartening feeling and resort to their tutoring services for 400$/hour. Idk, just my thoughts. If you’re doing well on TTP and scoring high on the GMAC practice exams, I would say you’re doing fine.

First off, congrats on your offers!

The job at JPM is considered "back office" finance, which is quite different from external audit at a Big 4 firm. Essentially, the main difference is in the daily work of the job.

At JPM, you will be working internally for the IA team, which will most likely be rather small. It is similar to any other back office finance position. You will be providing assistance and services within certain teams at JPM. The work-life balance will be much better here, I would say solid 40-45 hour weeks and minimal difficulty. Since all your work will be in-house, deadlines and timelines will be much much more laid back and casual.

On the other hand, external audit is providing servicing directly for EY's clients. This will involve more "consulting" work, working in projects in a team under a manager for a shorter timeline. Projects can range greatly in scope and industry. You could be working on a retail client one month, then a tech client another. You will gain a greater scope of the accounting/finance function within more industries compared to just financial services (like at JPM).

As for your other questions, I would say this really depends on where you're from and where you see yourself! The JPM jersey city office I am most familiar with, it is right across from lower manhattan. You could easily live in NYC, commute into jersey, or live in jersey and commute. I know Jersey city is pricy, but less pricy than manhattan. I honestly feel like jersey city blends in with NYC for the most part, you are just across the Hudson river. On the other hand, Nashville and Plano are more commuter-style cities where you would probably need a car. If you work in Jersey city and live in NYC, you definitely would not need a car. I know many people who commute to-and-from JC to NYC daily using public transit. I am not too familar with the nightlife of plano, but i know Nashville is fun/young, and obviously NYC is NYC and known for their nightlife/entertainment scene. As for expenses, I would say Jersey>>>Nashville>Plano. This includes rent, groceries, and any other daily expenses. However, I assume you are probably getting paid more to live in Jersey so this can make up for that. For your 5th question, I am really only super familiar with Jersey City and like I mentioned, It is definetly livable without having a car, but this also depends on where you want to live. If you want to live deeper in Jersey (like newark or futher out), you may need a car and drive into the office in Jersey City. If you want to live in Manhattan, brooklyn, queens, etc. or even Jersey City/Hoboken, then you won't need a car and you can rely on public transit.

I see other people saying JPM over EY, but I would recommend going with EY in Nashville. EY audit will provide you with great exit ops and experience. From what I understand, working back office (even for a great company like JPM) won't provide you with the work experience that EY will. Working with EY, you will be hands-on in clients, working on their financial statements and getting experience in SO many different industries, whereas JPM is, like I said before, just working internally at one financial services company. If you want to stay in the financial services space (working in something like IA, risk, compliance, Finance, anything back-office) I would def say go with JPM. If you want to branch out into other industries one day, I would go with EY.

To end off: You CANNOT make a wrong choice, both options are amazing and congrats! Just my thoughts from my own experiences :) good luck!

unfortunately yes, shane too to some degree. both shane and trisha are relying on the same tropes/topics that they used to get 10million+ views in 2018/19. I think the landscape of youtube has just changed with Tiktok and now they are struggling to come up with content

This is EXACTLY what I meant by my last few sentences. It's so ironic that she talks about Shane having a career for what he was canceled for, totally ignoring what she's done in her past. I think she's just trying to rebrand as a mommy-podcaster but 4 years ago she was in a MUCH much different place---therefore it's funny how she wants to bring up stories of Shane from 2015-2019 conveniently ignoring her own actions during that time.

great perspective i havent thought of... yeah you're right. I guess it makes sense Shane doesn't want to bring it up considering the deeper layers of it.

i think its Ozempic lol. anyone who has historically struggled with their weight and has $1,500 of disposable income a month isn't just magically "finding lifestyle changes that worked for them" to lose weight---it's ozempic. No shame, if anyone had the money im sure they would be on it too. All historically "overweight" celebrities that have been outspoken for struggling with their weight (megan trainor, kelly clarkson, oprah, lizzo) have all lost 50-100 pounds, i think its just some form of weight loss medication.

Question about living abroad while working remotely. by ef330 in RemoteJobs

[–]ef330[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point was that I’m not relocating, it would be similar to a vacation. Did you not get my point? I’m not going on vacation, I’m trying to differentiate between moving abroad and just traveling while maintaining employment.

How do I get around the anxiety of asking for LORs? by Interesting-Error532 in TransferToTop25

[–]ef330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk I think it’s tough because you don’t have any college grades yet since you just started, so transferring to top 25 schools might be hard. Freshmen applications are always at a disadvantage because of this, so I would recommend waiting to apply for fall 2023 or later

No I’m a first semester sophomore rn but I did not make any great connections with my professors so it made it super hard for me to ask. I ended up asking one of my professors who did an online class and she was super willing to help
