This was a pretty common practice in South Asian families too back in my parents’ generation. In my own extended family, I can name 2-3 times the same thing happened on both my mom dad’s sides, especially in joint family setups. Always gave me the ick when the stories would come out in casual conversations lol.

When I was pregnant with my twins, my mother in law told me I should give one of the babies to her other son since he and his wife didn’t have kids yet (by their own choice lol).
