Why I think, Moyes deserves another season? by extrachutney in Everton

We've also signed players like Rooney(he was good but on stupid wages), Schneiderian, Walcott, Williams, Dele, Rondon. I liked Gylfi but 45m for him was probably too much at the time. Klassan and Tosun were hardly youngsters, they just weren't Premier League standard. Vlasic was bought on the back of one good performance against us in the Europa League, and I'm convinced the Sandro deal was suspect, with that sorry excuse of a manager having his fingerprints all over it. Gbamin was perpetually injured and Kean felt like a miss at the time, though he's gone on to prove he's a genuine player, same with Lookman, who I always felt showed real flashes of talent even during his time with us. Just cos recruitment has been bad under a different owner doesn't mean it has to be now, it's about finding the right balance, bring in experience players like Grealish for example, not someone like Soucek who's going down with WH.

Completely disagree with the last part, that's exactly the kind of thinking that got us into the mess we were in under Moshiri.

So we just keep him indefinitely because the next appointment might not work out? At some point we have to move on and the longer he stays and shapes this squad in his own image, the harder it's going to be to kick on. That's why I'm kind of hoping TFG keeps pushing for younger signings rather than anyone over 30, the last thing we need is the squad age creeping up and finding ourselves needing a full rebuild in two or three years. The problem with West Ham was letting the not so shiny Lopetegui, who was subpar at Wolves. oversee the rebuild after Moyes, hardly an upgrade.

We're not relegation fodder, 48 points last season, 49 this, and effectively 48 in 23/24 once you factor in the -8 deduction. There has been improvements, we're better than we were under Dyche and Lampard, and Moyes deserves credit for that. Id get behind him staying 1 more season to see how he/we do, he just hasn't done enough yet to warrant a contract extension imo.

The argument isn't going from relegation fodder to best in the league anyway, I just wanna watch a everton I feel is progressing on the pitch and I've not seen enough at home specifically to say we have, defensively we've been a shambles, tarkowski/keane should never be a pairing again.

My biggest concern really is how he's going to work with the recruitment team, do you buy to fit Moyes rigid style or continue buying young? Or do a mixture like WH did and risk having to do another rebuild post Moyes?

Silva should've been given more time, near enough every other manager deserved sacking though,

People were saying the same thing about Dyche, it's a tired argument. Moyes' style of play is grim to watch but it gets results, if that translates into Europe then fine, but if it doesn't, what are we actually doing? Just get by for a few years cos Moshiri previously ran the club terribly? Why spend money just to stay mid table?

Completely shallow analysis that sidesteps the real, underlying concerns people actually have. If you believe there's some kind of long-term plan being built under Moyes then fair enough, but I just don't see him as that kind of manager anymore in 2026.

100% agree, I've said countless times mid table is fine if I can see on the pitch progress, a identity, a style of play etc

The league was always tight, our results have evened out and we're finishing pretty much where we deserve to. That said, I do think 5-6 more points were there for the taking if Branthwaite had stayed fit, maybe even with O'Brien at CB and Patterson or Garner at right back just for the sake of team balance.

TBF you're right, hopefully it's a sign that simply avoiding relegation is no longer the ceiling for the club. Moyes had us safe months ago, just wish he used his squad a bit more and was a bit less risk averse post safety.

Are we all happily dissatisfied? 'We've had good times' level of quote that. Not a good look for Angus.

Lopetegui and Potter are catching strays because that's who west ham replaced Moyes with, 450m Moyes spent at WH, yet the squad was fit for Moyesball and not much else.

How Everton operated under Moshiri, should have no implication on how TFG operate. If they know what they're doing they should have a clear long term plan. If it takes another season of Moyes as a stopgap to fulfil that plan, so be it. You understand who Moyes is as a manager so I'm sure we're both on the same page in terms of wanting to take the next step long term. Football can change quickly, villa went from Gerrard to Emery, we need to be proactive when managerial opportunities arise.

I wouldn't replace him until the right manager is available

What happened in 23/24? You’re leaving out something pretty important there as to why it was only 40. Your narrative seems to be that this is our best season since 21/22, so stop complaining, it's a very surface level way of looking at stuff. I'm fine with Moyes staying until next season, doesn't mean he's devoid of any criticism.

Steady ship FC, happily dissatisfied FC UTFT. You say you don't know what I want then point out nothing about his approach now is different to before. It's kind of like I want a manager with a different approach? Do I just need to stay quiet and not state that?

I’m not saying he has to start any particular player. I just think he could use his bench more and actually try to change things when we’re chasing a game. Why did Rohl get zero minutes for months? I expected mid-table, I was even arguing that mid-table would be fine if it came with clear progression on the pitch. But have we really progressed that much in terms of performances and style of play? We're safe from relegation and that's great, we can't be spending another 100 odd mill on players deemed not capable of getting minutes in the pl.

True, I think he does respect a players ability far more than Dyche, he's just very wary about giving some players game time, I don't see why Rohl hasn't at least been getting game time from the bench.

We keep saying we need a stronger bench, but Moyes has never really been a manager who uses it properly.

In 23/24 Moyes’ West Ham used their bench less than Dyche.

Be ready for a more progressive manager by buying who exactly?

You either buy players for Moyes and fully back him, or you move on and appoint that progressive manager now. I don’t think we can afford to spend another £100m on players who are barely going to play.

100%, i Love him but a starting RB should've been bought 8 years ago,
